I have bought my own Ka-bar USMC fighting knife this week, I bought the one with the serration part. But I have noticed a little thing while looking at the knife very carefully: almost all blades on the Ka-bar USMC knifes, are not perfectly centered in the middel of the handle, there is a little difference of let us say between 1 and 2 millimeter! Does someone know why it is made that way?? Thanks for your answer!
@bomb3603 this is from the ka-bar website as follows
1) The tang has always been slightly off center to the blade. This is for two reasons: The offset brings the handle centerline more inline with the point. The other reason is it allows more room for your fingers on the bottom side of the handle. The offset is more noticable these days as we turn the handle with a more oval cross section than the old WWII models (Which were round)
I do not know who told you that, but it is not true! I found out that they have done that 'among some other differences with the Original WW2 Ka-bar' on purpose. So that people can not sell the new made Ka-Bar's as original WW2 knives. So that 'knive experts or collectors' can immedeately tell that it is not an 'original WW2' Ka-bar. I have returned my 'offcenter' Ka-bar's and ordered Item 5018 and 5019 from the Ka-bar website. The blades of those Ka-bar are not 'offcenter'! Regards
@bomb3603 it says so on the ka-bar website mate from one of the directors as someone asked the same question and that was the official directors reply im only going on what the director of ka-bar said himself-john
@devilrobrob You're so stupid. I bet you aren't a Marine. If so i'm not quite sure you you passed any standard testing. I feel like your I.Q is lower than 80. The Ka-Bar is a knife not a medal. He isn't a poser. You are an idiot.
@devilrobrob Seriously? First of all, I don't use this knife, it's a keepsake. I inherited it from my father when he died. So this knife can only be owned by a Marine? I have tons of respect for all American Armed Forces, but I will own any blade I damn well please.
@jsrnash12 It will dull quickly. I would avoid it, unless you're on a tight budget. The lowest quality steel that I will consider is Benchmade's 440C or Buck's 420HC. I prefer 154CM and S30V.
I so have to order one of these classics. No knife collector worth his salt would be without one of these. I prefer the lighter colored handle, and I wish I could get one with a silver colored blade instead of black. They run between $40.00 and $50.00. The stock sheath is pretty good, and you can also order a better Secure-Ex sheath for around $10,00. Well worth it. It's a great do everything knife. Very tough. Above all, it's made to kill other humans during hand to hand combat So Bad Ass!
Get an Ontario 498, Same as a KABAR (12" total, 7" Blade), 20-40 $ CHEAPER in some places. Got mine for 30$ at a garage sale, since it's so cheap and has no historical value whatsoever, I don't care what happens to it, so I use it as my main knife and to practice batonning, chopping, go camping with it.
@PittRules55 The only part of the blade that really needs oil is the exposed edge. The rest of it has a thick coating that protects it. I use any gun oil, Hoppes, RemOil, whatever.
@SchneiderStudios The handle is stacked leather. I haven't used it yet, lol. But it does feel pretty slick. I didn't buy this knife, I inherited it from my father.
I have ever used stacked leather handle very much. Soon the coating goes out and rough leather itself comes up, which is extremely grippy under oily or wet situation.
Thats not even a genuine USMC Kabar. it's a replica. I know a REAL Kabar when I see it. Inherited keepsake my ass

Do you have to oil the leather handle?
dusty772 1 year ago
@dusty772 I don't think so. I suppose you could if you wanted to, but I don't think it's necessary.
streetmaster63 1 year ago
Odd question but what oil do you use on this knife since its 1095 carbon steel which can rust?

@virtuovice I'm sure you are right. The glossy sheen will be gone in no time and the leather will be fine for grip.

it is leather handle actual. and grip is good :)
