  • Nobody gains this type of talent or grows these melodies in their head, they're born with it. These are some of the best constructed melodies ever written, far as I'm concerned. Not to mention, the most out of this world vocal melodies ever recorded.

  • Just listened to All You Need is Love by the Beatles and noticed how the harpsichord there is inspired by the Pet Sounds album!

  • @marketingfinger As well as on "For No One" on Revolver. So many PS influences on Revolver. I love picking them out whenever I listen to it.

  • @marketingfinger al sings this on the live 2 record set

  • the vocals are absolutely beautiful

  • Im remember listening to this song and pet sounds on lsd with 2 close friends. It was sublime and went on forever. It still does to this day..thank you Brian.

  • waka-waka? xD

  • How beautiful.

  • haha after brian says "i'll write on a piece of paper bachinka chinka waka waka... can you do it like that?" you can hear someone mumble : "bullshit!"

  • @mcorco2 True - they might have thought it was 'parakeet tweet' at the time, but hey, it worked! Creative people, especially musicians, can be like that...

  • Fantastic document!

  • wondrous beauty

  • Wow awesome job with this and the sloop john b clip. These songs are brian at his finest in my opinion. Music isn;t made like this today and it's such a shame. thank you for the time and effort. Wish someone could do this for the few great JAN BERRY productions.

  • For a man to do this at such a young age and as Brian always has said when song writing it comes from a higher place. Truly God given and nothing short of mind blowing.

  • Really nice work here. There's only so much one can do with still photos, but this really informs the soundtrack. The cuts and pans are effective and delivering this credit to the Wrecking Crew is a classy touch throughout. Glad I stumbled on this. A real labor of love.

  • i can never listen to these sounds without getting the same feeling every time: hope.

    Thanks

  • thanks for the upload...you do a great job with these.

  • I love your videos keep posting more. Where did you get your info from? Wikipedia? That's where I get slot of my info

  • love this collage

  • Great posting !! It's always very subjective, isn't it, when it comes to a side-by-side measure of Pet Sounds V. Sgt Peppers. It'd be better just to sit back & enjoy EACH album for its respective brilliance. Having said all of that, I nonetheless personally feel that when I play excerpt cuts from both LPs, that Pet Sounds as a holistic project stands the test of time a little better than Sgt Peppers. Pet Sounds can still be played today & is highly relevant, 45 years later.

  • Brian sounds like a nice person that treated his musicians with respect.

  • Great music and great band!

  • It's a shame what has happened to modern music production. In the old days it ways about synergistic talents to make something beautiful. Now it seems to lean many times on idolizing one individual. I wonder if any of Beach Boys back then (and by themselves) in today's culture make American Idol's first audition cut. Maybe some of them but things have changed so much.

  • wowowowowowowow

  • ecelente

  • pet sounds is the greatest pop album ever created, end of story. Sgt. Pepper is second. Paul had John and Visa versa, and they both had George Martin. However Brian is alone, writing, arranging and producing this music. His is a singular genius. Brians a gentle, sensitive artist.

  • ya....brian didnt need a george martin....and whats worse, he had a murray

  • By the time Pepper's came out the beatles were pretty much producing themselves...and the beatles were a more self sufficient band, using less studio musicians, though they did use a lot, but not on every track like Brian had to...And I agree that Pet Sounds is brilliant, but the quality of the songs doesn't hold up next to Peppers...Wouldn't it be Nice and God Only Knows would have a shot at making peppers, but the rest wouldn't have made it.

  • First off, your name says you are probably a huge, bleeding dork. 2. Beatles are my favorite band. I worship them. I know their songs better than anybody. But I can still see that Pet Sounds was ever so slightly more sweet, polished, sophisticated and inspired than Pepper. Like HELL The Beatles were "pretty much producing themselves." George Martin offered much in terms of ideas and helping the boys' rough ideas and turning it into reality.

  • Just look at Mr. Kites psychedelic, cut-up type passage-complements of Sir Martin. George helmed the production and helped shape da songs.

  • billnyethescienceguy was taken.

  • Seriously asher plucking the strings with a paper clip? who thinks of that.....Brian wilson is a god among men

  • A genius at work. Nobody ever did it better or ever will do it better than he did!

  • Brian was having himself a good day....

  • This will be my song for that day of days. The "It".

I guess everyone has ONE day that stands out above all days. There could never be anyother song which would be "My" choice ~to me at least.

  • i got no more words for this genius..1000stars!!!

  • Brian felt good that day

  • interesting to see Glen Campbell in the back of the photo with the piano player!

  • Just before The Beatles did the sgt. pepper album and thought of comparing rock music to classical music, The Beach Boys did better music than classical music with Pet Sounds, and then again "I just wasn'r made for these times - Can't find a place to put my heart and soul into" just right there Brian! goin' to see you in Gothenburg soon!

  • i wish they could release a "Pet Sounds Instrumental". Like pet sounds but with no vocals. i mean i know you can find those on pet sounds sessions. but a seperate cd would be cool.

  • Why not just buy Sessions?

  • LOL @ WOCKA WOCKA!

  • these videos are simply amazing, and this one is particularly beautiful. I am constantly reminded how great Brian is whenever I listen to almost any Beach Boys stuff, especially 1964-1967. Briallant, colourful, and powerful music.

  • Boo-Waka-Waka!

  • Fozzie!

  • For god's sake, tune that clarinet!

  • Absolutely beautiful song. Incedible vocals & arrangement! He was the best!

  • It's been said before, but Brian Wilson in his capacity with the Beach Boys, had to be the John & Paul, the George Martin rolled into one 23 yr old.

  • pet sounds vs. sgt pepper was brian wilson versus the beatles and george martin basically. pretty amazing what one man accomplished.

  • @mrtwang32 That is the absolute truth! That's why he had such an impact on the Beatles, particularly Paul and George Martin.

  • bachinka linka wucka wucka

  • one my all-time favs of the Boys...no one can touch the harmonies they created!!!

  • these behind the sounds are amazing! they let the mere mortal listeners get their head around the fact that this young kid brian wilson shaped the entire sound right down to where to hit the snare drum right in the center to make it sound fullest... his ability to phonetically emulate what he wants the instruments to sound like is amazing... i have always had a theory: if you can sing or vocally mimmick a passage of music then you can learn it on an instrument. BW is a living natl treasure.

  • "everybody boom-dings once in a while"

haha brian was just hilarious thru the whole thing

  • Absolutely INCREDIBLE!

  • Just sounds like he's so in his element..This young guy surronded by the cream of LA's most expierenced studio players and he's so aware of what he wants..Awesome!!

  • How fortunate to have come of age when the voices of Brian and Carl Wilson were in their prime. It's true that timing is everything.

  • Fantastic effort! I really enjoyed this video! Man, Brian worked so hard on these songs. Even after knowing this LP for years I still get so much out of it. It's magic.

  • really well put-together! it's great to be able to go behind the scenes of a song recorded over 40 years ago.

  • Orignal title "In My childhood" Brian had music but no lyrics. Truly amazing

  • Brian did allegedly write lyrics to the song himself, but never showed them to Tony Asher or has revealed what their exact nature was. Perhaps it had something to do with riding his bike.

  • @capitolemiproducer That's not amazing. Many, many people write music before lyrics.

  • Pet Sounds- the ultimate BW musical jigsaw puzzle assembled for our delight - Thanks a Million for this brilliant insight.

  • what a great song..terrific clip..its like revisiting a best friend...

  • Very cool, Very well done.....I dig all the info thru out!

    Wonderful video...Five stars......Eloy

  • I guess this is genius... someone call Webster.

  • Unnamed Piano Player = Mike Melvoin?

  • It's brilliant to see all the people who helped Brian create the finished masterpiece. Wonderful series of videos, looking forward to the rest!! :)

  • in the pic with the band, notice hal's drums the toms are really short, anyone know what kind of kit that was??

I think it was modified because I don't think any drum company made a kit with that configuration back then

  • The most incredible album I have ever heard. It's timeless

  • I'm in the middle of reading a book about the Beach Boys and the creative processes that went into the making of the Pet Sounds LP, and found this video fascinating!

  • Hes our modern day Mozart. He hears it all before its made.

  • Thank you for this. The images are combined really well with the available soundtrack.

  • my favourite song on Pet sounds. Blows me away everytime

  • thanks for this amazing clip!! i'll subscribe to our videos!! for this song i must say Al Jardine should have sung it. Have you heard him doing this song on a live album? AMAZING!

  • i think it's so cool how they wanted to make the arrangement childhood-esque so they added the bicycle horn and crafted the instrumental/rhythmic texture into one that was reminiscent of a music box...that is like brilliant, i don't think anything like that is happening anymore, at least not that often

  • brilliant. I love this song and had never even recognised all the fabulous layers and details.

  • Good to learn something about my fave album of all time.

  • Thank You!

  • Outstanding. Brian was the best.
