I am Taiwanese, born and raised in America, educated in Western schools of thought in regards to foreign relations.

Taiwan should have its right to be politically indepedent, as well as culturally. However, there is nothing wrong with intergrating economic ties with the mainland. Hong Kong is a great example. Taiwan and China should work hard to drop the military threat and pretense of invasion and! succession and work togethers the Hong Kong model

God created us all different and unique. Each ethnic group has its own beauty and we should preserve it . It would be eveil for China to invade Taiwan by force and the rest of world won't let that happen as it happened before the cold war.

that last "voice" was interesting... if US stops selling weapons to TW, then how will TW defend itself? Yes, the money that US is profiting from could go to a better cause, especially with the current financial crisis, but one should not make oneself defenseless and be at the mercy of others. IF the other countries guarantee that they will not invade TW, then, by all mean, TW should decrease the purchase. HOWEVER, is this assumption of no future invasion realistic?

The U.S. could defend Taiwan in the eventuality of a war. There are already over 10 U.S. military bases in Taiwan with 3000 personnels. Also since the relations between China and Taiwan are exceptional at this time invasion would seem very unlikely.

Taiwan is a democracy and so is the US. First of all . .. . helping Taiwan is what the US government had been doing until Jimmy Carter messed it up . . . Plus, if China somehow bullies its way into Taiwan . . where will it stop? Will Japan be next? . . . . or maybe Australia . . . seriously, the line has to be drawn somewhere . . . . Taiwan is a free country and the citizens of Taiwan deserve to remain free to elect people and to rule themselves!

well, China holds almost all of USA's depts if USA declares war, (very unlikely) China would liquidate all the money and the American greenback which is weak already would be worth less than dirt. Not to mention also that China is in the SCO, Russia is its ally and Russia has the largest gas & oil reserve plus the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons.

haha! well i LOVE Japanese people and i have more japanese friends then mainland China, but i still see myself as Taiwanese, and my japanese friends like it that way!

But your right, lots want to be Japanese, but im kind of biased because i lived with Japanese people..................
