  • Thank you for this tutorial, well done!

  • hey, how a person puts an audio transcript of the video, using the SW4, (that, as in option cc, is there saying, transcribe audio)

  • I can't see the closed captions after i uploaded them how come? Please help :)

  • こっちの説明の方が好きです。(・∀・)イイ!

  • lol

  • Thanx a lot!! It was very helpfull.

  • DOBLANGA!

  • Can we use this video for educational purposes? Do we need copyright clearance? Many thanks for sharing this wonderful video and we would appreciate your response and consideration.

  • @accessibilityUBC I've since posted an updated version (link in the video description).

Exactly how were you intending to use this video?

  • @rewboss we are doing presentation in how to make an online course more accessible and your video will help us to show why closed captions are important, specially in helping people with disabilities (hearing, cultural, language, etc). Thank you.

  • @accessibilityUBC Could you send me a PM with more details? Thanks.

  • 'Youtube recommends subtitle workshop', became 'Eugene recommends subtitle workshop', you'd think they'd get their own name right! :P

  • Subtitles can be in the same language, it omits the nuances such as (door slam). Closed caption and open caption will include things such as, (ominous theme playing), or (dog barking). This helps those who are Deaf/HoH know what is going on in a movie or show. Unfortunately, the beta caption thing on youtube is awful. CC or subtitles should be an option for those who need it and to prevent those who don't want it from complaining about it.

  • Great spot Rewboss. Liked it so much I linked to it in my latest blog post on Video Marketing. hope you are OK with that.

  • Since learning that youtube actually have captions I went on search engines searching to see if I can stream movies and tv programs online and have it close captioned especially in Canada. So far I have found out that nexflix has a poor amount of close captioned programs and no listing of captioned programs and other sites does not have close captions at all. I know that youtube isnt exactly a streaming site but as Deaf person I am thinking that your site is a winner for starting this.

  • My problem is that youtube wont work for videos that support cc. So basically, if it has the little red box with cc option, the play button shows up as a grey box and I cant press it....I cant load the damn video or anything. I might just quit youtube, its gotten really gay under google control. Many better tube sites available now days.

  • As of now... a new version of the software urusoft is under development...

  • hey rewboss, I've just put closed captioning in one of my videos, but it seems it is effecting the video streaming. Any advice?

  • @aluminumfilms I've noticed this myself. I think it's the new player.

  • He says "you can do this with a simple text editor if you're geeky enough." I bet you that makes most people assume they can't type their own, but if you take a close look at 1:03, it's not all that complicated. =^p Or maybe I'm geekier than I thought I was...

Btw, thanks a bunch rewboss! I would've never figured out the Closed Caption system without this! ^_^

  • '

thank for closed captioned in here video

  • "you will see a CC logo in the description" ----automatic transcription-----> "insists the scene of death and destruction" (1:40) :D

  • merlin season 2

  • If you want to edit and correct YouTube's machine-transcribed caption files visit the YouTube channel "videocritter" for a free nonprofit web-based caption editor that will allow you to import or create YouTube caption files.

  • i really love it

  • Many thanks! I am deaf. I need closed caption so badly. I really am frustrated what did they say at drawing tutorial. I don't understand them at all. I will pass to them to get the closed caption for the deaf and hard of hearing people.

  • Reading the closed captions on the type of videos i like is usually funnier than the video itself

  • I would prefer Captions / subtitles on the video all the times because some people are problems with their ears. They need it.

  • does this cost mony???

  • great video thanks dude

  • rewboss, i don't blame you because you are angry to me. luckily, the malaysians can translate the captions. anyway, sorry that i have taken your video without your notice.

  • Jesus christ your english is great

  • @rewboss

    hehe wie peinlich

  • DUTCH!!!! yeey

  • great tips!! thanks

  • Your video has closed captioning...But the closed captioning seems to misinterpret what you are saying...\:

  • @InoYamanaka3000 In what way?

  • @rewboss Oh, never mind. You had just explained to someone else. I understand now. Thank you(:

  • @rewboss the beautifully hilarious transcribed audio beta feature

  • I used to use over stream but it's not working any more. That's because you tube close off video access to third parties like overstream, keepvid, one true media, etc

  • The only use closed captions have for Youtube are to make videos remotely amusing as they can't recognize speech worth shit.

I'll never understand how "Try our product today," gets translated as "Rye bread in an hour a ducks pay."

  • @FrozenAnarchy That's the automatic speech recognition system, which is at the bleeding edge of technology and the very limit of what computers can do. You might stand a chance if you speak like Walter Cronkite, and slowly and clearly, and with no noises or music in the background. But for best results, writing your own captions by hand is the only reasonable option, and will be, I predict, for another 60 years at least.

  • omg subtitle editor sucks i was trying to make the duration of a caption 1 second and when i hit the up button on the program to move it up 0.1 seconds it went up to 23 hours

  • You Ronald Reagan?

  • I'm deaf and I have to say I'm shocked at the limited subtitles/captions on the videos on Youtube. Hats of to the bloke for raising awareness!

  • i put cc on and it was soooo funny cus it wasnt even close

  • you can also allow the speech recognizer to make it work. its funny

  • 1:43

  • This is one of the dumbest things youtube has done... I have not seen a video where the captions are anywhere near what they are saying... even in a clear speaking english.

  • @semune Thats not closed captions. Thats transcriptions. Closed Caption you write so if they're wrong it's because you can write.

  • @semune Can't write, not can.

  • The new automatic closed captions can have some pretty hilarious results. I was watching a video about a movie review and the captions seemed to think it was some kind of poem about Israeli terrorists and orange juice. Very funny stuff

  • @Nobody2230

LOL, I know. I was watching a video with Tyra Banks and it went on about Iraqi airports. :D

  • @Nobody2230 omg link that video ASAP

  • Unfortunately I cant remember the name since it was about a week ago. :( I think it was a review of the movie 'remember me'. I could be wrong though

  • Yeah I think this could become a new internet fad quite easily. Someone should CC a death metal song, that could be interesting.

  • Know of any Mac compatible software?

  • thankyou very much - very helpful :)

  • I tried translating it to swedish and it works exceptionally well with your video actually. There's a new closed caption system too that will try to translate the audio, I have yet to see it being effective - rather than hilarious.

  • to bad it dont work with the PS3 browser.

  • I take that back, some CC buttons dont work but the CC button works on your video.

  • CONTINUE: When I click the CC button it'll just always flashes red and then says caption are not available. END

  • Yes, there's a bug. It's new: but it's been reported, so hopefully there'll be a fix soon.

  • My problem is that i can't toggle CC it just says captions not available and sometimes it does toggle it but it doesn't show them (when you're not signed in and when you are it doesnt toggle them. What's the problem. I tried SBT which campydoodles suggested and Subviewer 2.0 and Subrip but always the same thing. And I use Subtitle Workshop. Is there something with the browser. I think it is not because it does the same with Explorer, Firefox and Chrome.

  • I've found that you need to use the .sbv file extension in order to get it to work... SBT

  • how'd you make it semi transparent, is it text size/amount of text? thanks

  • its that easy?

  • i do the eeky way with notepad

  • Thank you rewboss, you're really helpfull :)

  • too bad nobody even uses them now >.>

  • I do!

For my trailer I made a closed caption in English (because the sound is in German)

For the three minute trailer I worked about 30 to 60 minutes... I don't know, if I used that programm just like it was meant to... If anybody can explain it to me, just send me a message!!

  • pretty cool

  • I haven't really searched around, as it is hard to find things sometimes over google or youtube help.

I was wondering is there a way to designate a certain cc track as the default. Or will uploading a file first or last make it the default loaded track.

Asking this if you end up loading multiple English cc tracks.

  • Cool

  • I am an ESL teacher. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO SEARCH FOR YOUTUBE CLIPS THAT HAVE CLOSED CAPTIONED ONLY? Thanks ! That helps my students a lot.

  • Perform a search first, then, when the results appear, look down the left-hand sidebar and click the link that says "Closed captions". (If you don't see the sidebar, click on "Search options" near the top of the list.)

  • and so do I, I d like to know how to find closed captioned videos?

  • Maior paia...

    não precisa fazer várias legendas...

Faz uma apenas e os ouvintes podem traduzí-las normalmente...

MAs, até q ficou bem explicadinho!!!

  • FANTASTIC!

But where does it explains to make it, DUMB!

  • DUMB ASS, 1:20,

  • @martinerrr

    u shoud polite

and your response isn't false actualy

some of reader didn't know how to sub using the SW

  • please help me!! what is the track name!!??

  • I toggle on the CC and it works. I subscribed you and added you as a friend.

  • great

  • I've done this, uploaded a caption (made by me, the program you told us about sucked) and it did upload. But when I try to click the caption it say "captions are not available"

Why is this happening? Reply please, thank you!

PS: Worked ALL DAY at creating, editing the vid, creating captions, etc, so it would be a waste to leave it like that, because it has no sound.

  • or their speaker suck....lolz

  • LOL.. Nice video!

  • Great tutorials man! 5/5 stars... and you get a........SUBSCRIBER!!! YAY WOHOO!!!...and stuff..

  • yeah man!

    rofl

  • great :D i think it´ll help much !

and i like ur hair ^^ hrhr

  • i have the lamp in the background. from IKEA!

this video is funny, flippidy flam flob flob. lol

  • I dont like it, will you approve this comment?

  • It's worth it. First of all, the search engine indexes the captions when you add them in this way, so you're more likely to come out top on searches. And secondly, I now have a lot of hearing-impaired subscribers.

  • lol

  • gut zu wissen, leider gibts kein "huhnisch", dass ich meine Videos auch übersetzen kann.

    @REWBOSS

Your Hair is very pretty! Please never cut them for another person!

    KEEP ON!

  • Mit was kann man die Untertifel .srt-files erstellen?

  • Mit z.B. Subtitle Workshop: Link in der Videobeschreibung.

  • Yo thx

  • Cool hab ich garnicht gewusst :D

  • useful ty

  • Why do the CC captions no longer seem to appear on black bars in the background?

  • You probably turned them off. Press the B key (on your keyboard) to turn them back on.

  • I did it both way and it was only the geeky one that worked.. it just take so much time to hit the exact point where something is said, when much is said in little time

  • You need to save your subtitles in SubViewer or SubRip format.

  • i had that problem, too. that's what i was talking about on rewboss' forum when i asked for help

  • name the file .srt not .txt

  • Thanks for this and, you might want to turn of voting comments since allot of usefull(approved by you) comments are getting downrated for no reason(s).

  • Doesn't work.

  • It works for most people. But if you gave me a little more information to go on, I might just be able to help.

  • I tried the nerdy thing AND the thing you tried, they both didn't work.

  • Well, all I can say is that you did something wrong. You probably used the wrong format: it should be SubViewer or SubRip.

  • Thanks! This was very helpful. You're doing a great service :)

  • Okay, so I know the website I download the software from but where exactly do I download it at?

  • Click the link in the menu that says "Downloads". You'll find it there.

  • Thank you Rewboss! I will give SubTitle Workshop a try! Thak you for your video!

  • no it wont say nothin about error messages...can u do me a favor and jus give me ure phone # or sumthin it'll make it alot easier...i send u a message telling u exactly wht it said.plz help me

  • listen man ive tried every thing....i jus spent an hour on tht subtitle program...i.m done...but now when i upload it it dosent show up on ym video?? i really need ure help...im even willing to give u my password jus plz help me

  • Were there any error messages?

  • what should the file have?

  • 179,000 viewer XD

  • nice video!

I saw your video on youtube help.

  • how do you do the simple text editor thing?

  • That's difficult to explain. You need to write your file in SRT or SUB format and remember to save it with UTF-8 character encoding. If that makes no sense to you, I suggest using Subtitle Workshop.

  • I still dont know how to

  • ...you still don't know how to do what?

  • Okay thanks, It's not that simple to explain, thanks anyway. I'd like to say that I know how to do what you just said but I don't understand. i'll use the subtitle workshop instead. thanks for your help!

  • Good Vid :) Must Of Helped alot

  • How do you get umlauds to work? My ü become a Ÿ when I upload it to YouTube.

    -Cory

  • You need to make certain that you save the file with UTF-8 encoding.

  • For this other video website, I need to produce my captions in .xml file. Which option for the output format on Subtitle Workshop do I select to publish it in .xml format? Thanks.

  • Thank you so much, I hope that other people will follow and add captioning to their videos. I am deaf and I really enjoy watching videos on youtube that are closed captioned. In fact, I missed Michael Jackson's memorial service on TV and have been looking for closed captioned videos of that service. Perhaps you could help me with this? :-)

  • That was so funny.

  • Thanks, Text Files ARE Geeky

  • please add in info about what extension i should use for close caption file..

  • rofl!

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you, i will subscribe. My speakers do suck. LOL!

  • I was geeky enough, I made subtitles with notepad :)

  • Andrew, thank you very much!

  • thankyou so much!

  • Lol

  • Impressive. Thank you.

This is very helpful for deaf and/or hard of hearing people. I am one of them. :)

  • i love the way u talk lol!!!

  • big ca ne marche pas

  • you sound like jack from pirates of carribean

  • omg uur sooo right duude

  • what is stupid

  • Rewboss, in subtitle workshop, wich format do I've to use in youtube??

  • I'm just as good right? .txt

  • *cough*

.srt or .sub. Definitely not .txt.

  • Thank you!

  • There is a new feature in TestTube called CaptionTube- which makes things a lot easier. You add your captions in real time on your video and stuff and then it creates the file FOR you and all you do is upload it so yeh its easier.

  • Thanks for your comment because I found Caption Tube much user friendly than subtitle workshop. Actually I lost all my work on subtitle workshop (after 2 hrs of typing) because I pressed the wrong key. err! So I changed to Test Tube and will use this from now on.

  • what format do i save it as?

  • You save this as .SRT file.

  • sweet dude! thanks, ive been trying to figure out which file format to save as haha

  • It works on subtitle workshop. thanks!

  • I don't get it!

  • Hello, I am zyahoo43,

I am sorry to say but when I try to upload the subtitles, it says "Unknown Track" and I can't get that to stop. I tried to do it again and it worked, but my cc is not showing. Why is that. Would you please help me as soon as possible because I really could use the help. And by the way, I love the software and how it is a .zeg file. is that accepted anyway? Because I upload and it said check but then my subtitles are not showing.. Thanks so much for the software and HELP ME!

  • YouTube accepts subtitles in .srt (SubRip) or .sub (SubViewer) format -- not .zeg format.

  • Thanks very much. Now that I know to save my software in a .sub or .srt. I didn't know that it had to be in those. The option it showed was .zeg and then I saw that you can save it in the 2 files shown. I thank you so very much in talking and replying at the fastest response time.

  • How do i get those files?

  • You make them yourself.

  • So what do i have to use?

  • subtitle workshop.

  • hahahaha XD

  • Awesome tutorial!

  • wow! thanks! this is very helpful

  • i use annotations and i find it easy.

  • thank you for teaching me
