i think i didnt explain it well. i mean you can allways get a Cossworth if u dont want a FWD car. I know Mk3 isnt cossworth but the cossworth (mkV) is a 4WD car with most of the traction on the rear wheels.

Probably due partly to cost. As standard the AE86's have LSD rear axles which are 5 linked, with panhard rod and discbrakes all round. With 150bhp standard, they are beautifully balanced cars and ive had the pleasure of driving a fully sorted one. The escorts have nothing and cost 1000's to get to a similar spec, plus they rust faster than the devil runs. Im still trying to weld my mk1 mex - 5years and counting!

Thanks for the info, The Mk2 rallycar is coming along nicely, we've moved the front bulkhead which has enabled us to mount the engine 18cm further back for far better PMI. We are going the NA route for a linear response and more throttle sensitivity. The engine is a JRE all steel, Vaux XE 2.3 (long stroke) big valve touring car head running on Jenveys produces 295 bhp and 240 lb/ft torque.. nothing compared to your figures but ample for the forrests and should be better suited being NA.
