H1 was discontinued due to slowing economy, rasing gas prices and above all - new 2007 emission rules for diesel engines. Guess what? Restyled H1 is coming back as soon as GM lease for Hummer name expires. On contrary to Jeep, that had to be bailed out with taxpayers money - AM General never stopped making Hummvees. Having owned both - Jeep is not even close.

No, probably not, but I've logged several thousand miles on them in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in the backwoods of Fort Campbell, KY and spent hundreds of hours maintaining them. If you're filthy rich and want a H1 go ahead and get it, just don't be acting like anyone who drives a Jeep instead is a poor scrub and that Jeeps aren't capable.

  • @KingOfBattle119 I've put 100000 miles on numerous Jeeps. Over 50000 miles on H1. Spent years as an automotive tech (performed lot more then maintenance on both) - a bit familiar with both. Having spent few years few years driving vehicles much larger and capable then H1 in very similar conditions as you are allows me to say that driving (and even maintaining) certain equipment hardly makes you an 'expert' .

But you can't rally call it a Cherokee after everything that's been done to it. There were maybe 3 inches of it above the water, the guy was just standing on top. I felt really bad for him, no way he didn't water lock it.

The CJ frames alone are enough reason to avoid them, on top of carter carbs and 2piece axle shafts, weak 260x Ujoints, toothpick driveshafts, spaghetti emissions, ox cart suspensions that barely worked, and a tendency to turn into swiss cheese from the bottom up.

    Lets not forget the crappy Puegot transmission in the YJs, dana35s (AMC's choice! not Chryco) and equally bad Aisin crap. JKs all the way.

  • @perro030894 no they weren't. The original Jeep was made by Bantam, who lost the army contract to Ford and Willys. AM General was spun off from AMC due to Renault's acquisition of AMC(who owned Jeep much later in life after Willys passed on) so they could continue to develop and sell the Humvee to the US government (since the US government won't buy military equipment from foreign owned companies, or at least wouldn't at the time).

    The humvee was almost a Jeep (hence similar grills).

These vehicles got their popularity by appealing to rich yuppies who think that because they're driving a military based vehicle that they can do anything on the trail ,And since Arnold drove one and they bought one now they think their middle -aged ass is Hummer tough...LOL.   • Humvees were built with their IFS and portal 9inch axles to give them the ability to drive in ...TANK TRACKS...that's why they are IFS , so they have under carriage clearance as to not hang up on center hump while driving in tank tracks ,And this gives them great for mud/deep snow since they have no axle tube/diff dragging the mud/snow...And their attributes stop right there ,and leave them sucking most every other place.

  • 2002 HMMWV: ~$115,000 2010 Jeep Wrangler: ~$27,850 (loaded). if you took the remaining $85,000+ and used it for aftermarket upgrades for the Wrangler, i'm SURE it won't have any problems keeping up with the Hummer. As it is, the Hummer is superior to the Wrangler... but everyone needs to open their fucking eyes and look at the price difference. of course it's a better vehicle, it SHOULD be. coming from a '97 Wrangler owner.

  • these are not hummers these are Humvees... GM made hummers which suck off road. (HMMWV or Humvee) is a military motor vehicle created and produced by AM General and they are great off road. If it's a diesel its almost always a humvee..

  • @hubbard771 Mostly right.... the military versions were "HMMWV".. the civilian edition (sold to the public 1992 - 2006) were originally called "Hummer" and got changed to "H1" when GM bought the brand name. The video has both Hmmwvs and Hummers.

  • @strandtc right as jeep made vehicles for the us military as did gm, gm though didn't sell at first sell it publicly they were only available to military personnel. The H1 was the exact same thing as the one issued in the military. they changed the size and engines in the h2 because civilians usually didn't have money like the government to pay for gas, but each model still went through the same military testing as the military issued ones

  • @hubbard771 They don't make stock diesel Hummers, only Humvees, as you stated. The only diesel Hummers are custom ordered or custom built, and I've never seen one.

  • @40ashort wrong guy... I know the differance between AM General (Diesel) and GM (Gas). Someone else was taking about diesels. Hummer sucks Humvee's are bad ass.

  • @hubbard771 Gm took over ownership of the hummer name... the hummer H1 wasnt originally made by GM but by AM general... then Gm took over... made it softer, put in the Durmax Diesel and then made the H2 and H3

  • Dont you miss when vehicles were built to do what they were told, and built to last and be badass without even breaking a sweat? Vehicles now a days need to be pampered and do not last, which really sucks.
