This needs to be knows: in a secret meeting explaining details of the May plan to destabilize the country of the U.S.A. Steve Lerner has been caught in Nov 2010 spending Millions of Union money to create and organize this plan. The early steps have started in New York and Pennsylvania, $3,000,000.00 in commercial's and newspaper ad's starting his plan to blame government and capitalists as stealing 17 trillion dollar's directly from American middle and lower class. This is terrorism, correct?
Call me old fashioned, but the workplace is NOT A FUCKING DEMOCRACY!!!!
It's work!!! Guy has an idea starts a company so he can provide a product or service. His business grows, he needs more people. He hires people that he determines are the best ones to not only keep the business open, but expandit if possible. Plain and simple, if you are not the boss then you do not call the shots. If you wanna call the shots, go start your own damn company!!!!
@EchoMike03 Why are you against work place democracy? It's worked wonders all across europe, especially scandinavia where workers on average enjoy the highest pay and better working conditions than anywhere in the world. Do you imagine that labor has no role in growing a business? Who do you think generates the wealth for that business? Who do you think puts in the work needed for that business to prosper?
Why accept a top down monopoly in the work place then oppose it in the market place?
@EchoMike03 Good sir, you wage war against the working class in favor of top down business elites who have managed to hoard more wealth than all of the rest of us combined, and have now taken power over every facet of our government, so that the workers may forever be treated as disposable commodities, while the serfs who produce all the grain are given merely a bag of oats to sustain them. Congratulations, you oppose democracy and support monopolistic tyranny.
There is a large difference between Unions for private institutions and Unions for public. The fact of the matter is Unions should have no power over government jobs, only the government should have a say so on the wages, because its Ultimately the tax payer that has to pay.
Card check, just take the paper head to the head, wipe ones ass with it and give it back to the markist unions. If they follow you home, well, one less union person.
HAHAHA GREAT JOB NOT MAKING ANY KIND OF POINT DUDE! U REALLY CHANGED MY VIEWS WHY UNIONS ARE A BAD THING! R U KIDDING ME? U SHOULD QUIT JOURNALISM IF THIS IS THE KIND OF SHIT U PUT OUT.
We need to start nationalizing all private business now! Our Unions will turn this country into the greatest Socialist country in the world. One Islamic/Socialist world! And if anyone disagrees, send them to an education camp! Defeat Evil Freedom Loving Capitalist NOW!
The Employee Free Choice Act should be properly renamed the Union Extortion of Employees Act. It allows these thugs to SHOW UP AT YOUR HOUSE, call you at home and corner you at work. They routinely lie about the point of the card, stating that it will merely authorize a vote. I have not seen any system whereby forgery may be detected; how would anyone know?
How does any democratic body support ending the secret ballot in preference to a system of open intimidation?
Only people with a GED want unions because its there only shot to having a "good paying job"...most union members are only qualified to work at McDonalds!!!
Unions suck. When I was young I was a teamster. While I sent the packages to the truck I would run out of boxes to send. there would be a fork lift, and a hand truck right where i was and the boxes were nearby, but I would have to wait 1/2 hour for someone to bring the boxes to me,because I wasn't a material handler or a fork lift guy when I did it myself I was told I was stealing other peoples jobs. I just wanted to work
I thought anti-union conservatives, of the insane Glen Beck variety (which many here commenting seem to be) were all about going back to the founding principles of the country and rejecting Progressivism. Do you guys realize that the secret ballot that you are defending was a Progressive Reform?
@thedition Nobody minds real progressivism. But no matter how much libs bitch and moan, liberalism is NOT progressivism. Progressivism implies you're actually solving a problem, and PROGRESSING the country forward. People like Beck protest progressivism because liberals are so convinced that they're progressives. He's basically just trying to sidestep delusional libs
Nah man you got it all wrong. Progressivism is when the population of a country adapts to changes in society. You can't stop the changing demographics here, and the tides are going against conservative ideals. The GOP will die out like the whigs I guarantee it. Plus slowly and slowly, every nice Republican person I know (like the people I work with) will notice that true progressivism will ultimately be in their favor. They do not like these times, it confuses them.
@EpioN Your definition of progressivism is EXACTLY what I just said. We just disagree as to whether right or left is more conducive to progressivism. Since we're on the topic of a card check, do me a favor. I've been wondering what could possibly make anyone want a card check. Why do you want card checks, as opposed to secret ballots?
Your definition of progress is limited to conservative/Christian dogma that really can't progress any further than they already have 'les they betray their own ideals. I'm talking about real trans humanist progressivism. The future is decidedly liberal in terms of social interactions, and the majority of the youth is becoming increasingly secular or straight out atheist. @thedition what??? so your OK using secret ballots after the union is in, but not to determined that they can come in the first place? "no really. I don't think we need the secret ballot at town meetings, at union meetings, and I'm not against caucasing."

This whole fear of possible intimidation is bogus and concocted to give an eerie picture to the process. Drop the drama, shed the fear, no one is going to crucify anyone. A worker's vote is his vote no matter what. If the business doesn't treat its employee with an ensemble of integrity and fairness, they have every right to organize. On the other hand, if the company does its best to help the workers, not only there will be no need for union, but they reciprocate with more productivity.
Closed shop states are anti-American! Workers should be free to choose, to use a phrase Milton Friedman loved. There's no excuse for unions taking over workplaces and entire states and forcing them to only hire people if they enter their organization. I mean, forcing them to pay union dues as a condition of employment is EXTORTION! It's greedy. Let workers decide their own fates. If they wanna be in unions, fine. But don't treat them like kids and force them into one.
@whoo689 Employers scare the employees into voting against the union by threatening to close down the company completely. At the same time as unions have lost power worker wages have stagnated and executive salaries have sky-rocketed.
No, you won't, Senator Harkin! This atrocious and unnecessary bill will fail. Unions today are nothing more than a tool for "oppressed" workers in low-wage industries to bankrupt companies by forcing them to pay all their expenses, from healthcare to pensions to daycare, you name it! They wanna mooch off their employer rather than paying this shit themselves. Lazy fucks. Fuck your "economy that works for all." How about you get off your ass, go to college, and get a high-paying JOB?
The economy does "work for all" if we go for the right jobs. If you go for a shitty job that doesn't pay well just because of "your dreams", and you have a family to feed, you're a moron. If you work at a GM plant and make 60,000 a year, you have no excuse for not affording healthcare. You can get it on your own! Don't force GM to pay your healthcare bills.
I'm not pro union but the union bosses answered the question with no problem.

I believe you are right, but a man who has the decency to not circular breathe, like the President of ACORN does, has my respect... but still not necessarily my vote.
You're a tool. Raising wages through government coercion creates inflation. In essence, you get paid money you don't deserve, which in turn increases cost. Cost prevents a business from being competetive (like Albertson's which is going out of business). Cost also increases inflation, you cannot buy as much with your new raise, thus the raise was worthless. Detroit is failing because of unions and the coal industry and many grocery stores. Unions are only good at creating unemployment.
Brainwashed by the rich lol, what an idiot. I'm not rich or brainwashed but I have enough common sence to check things out myself and their are TWO sides not just all great everything good! Listen to what the person asking questions says!

The real intimidators are the employers/owners who control peoples' jobs. Employers use a broad array of tactics to intimidate workers. The Heritage Foundn. is a shill for the corporate, capitalist class. Union busting ensured declining wages in the US and led to the creation of "innovative" financial credit products as subsitute for sustainable and decent living wages. Look how well that turned out! This blogger is a corporate tool who appeals to people with more "patriotism" than intelligence.
No, I'm not a marxist -- but I wouldn't waste time discussing politics with you. Your first reaction to an opinion you don't agree with is to label someone with (what you believe is) an insult. LOL
These two clowns didn't give one straight answer. This is so typically of labor unions as a whole and their gang leader the Democratic Party. I'm 28 and am proud to say that I'm a recovering Dem...been sober now for about 7 years.
Unions are working out great in France, the unionized railworkers recently went on strike and completely shut down Frances rail system causing hundreds of thousands of other French people to miss work.
Unions don't really help empoyees but hey collect alot of union dues that enables them to buy plenty of politicians in Congress, the Senate, the Presidency. It's a organized racket is wha it is.
Yes, poor workers intimidated by a secret ballot need a union worker present while they "vote" to be "fair" (i.e. to get the correct result).
Hey, lets get rid of the secret ballot during elections too. It's obviously intimidating and unfair. We could probably get the "correct" outcome of a vote more often if we got rid of all secret ballots, right?
This is a red herring. EFCA gives workers, not bosses (as it is now) the choice between card sign or ballot. The bill's real meat is in tougher penalties for employers who violate workers' right to organize without intimidation or retaliation. As it is now, businesses chalk up the modest fines as a cost of doing business (if they're ever even levied and under Chow, they weren't ). Unions are the best, natural check against the income disparity that is tearing this economy apart.
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of 'liberalism,' they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."
- Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948
@JayAreDubya May 2, 1933. Hitler closed all trade union offices, confiscated all trade union funds and jailed the trade union leaders. He took away the worker's right to organize and negotiate.
@ThunderAppeal ....Read this again....who is trying to destroy the workers ...AND...this ifiot Walker was giving a surplus when he took office.....May 2, 1933. Hitler closed all trade union offices, confiscated all trade union funds and jailed the trade union leaders. He took away the worker's right to organize and negotiate.
@freein2339 Hitler ate sugar, too. And his favorite movie was Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I guess those things are automatically bad too.
@shamgar001 Not to mention that Hitler used many terms as mere tools of propaganda, meant to capitalize off of their broad and far reaching moral appeal, in order to gain the support and complacency of those who he in reality oppressed.
@JayAreDubya Socialism is nothing more than when the workers own the work place. It is a business model that can compete openly and freely in any free market. You, good sir, are conditioned to hate and fear the word, but can you even provide a coherent definition of the term socialism?
The reason Americans would not knowingly accept socialism is because they would be kept from knowing what it is. It is Orwellian that people who can not even define the term sneer and jeer at it's very utterance.

Unions are working out great for Ford and GM!

Secret, intimidation free ballots = democracy.

Amen! This quote is similar to what Kruschev told Ezra Benton about how America will become socialist one day. Look it up, its chilling.

@JayAreDubya May 2, 1933. Hitler closed all trade union offices, confiscated all trade union funds and jailed the trade union leaders. He took away the worker's right to organize and negotiate.
Does this ring any bells for you?

@freein2339 Guess what, shtalin did the same thing long before shitler, but yet you unionists still adhere to socialistic ideology.

@freein2339 Hitler ate sugar, too. And his favorite movie was Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I guess those things are automatically bad too.

@freein2339 ...which is liberalspeak for "I got called on Godwin's Law, time to start the name calling".
shamgar001 10 months ago
