You cannot prevent it , but its so easy to clean so its not a problem.One thing I do is as soon as I have glazed it just blow a little where the whole is and it may clear it....if not just prick it out later. Regards

Teapots have got to be one of the most difficult forms to glaze successfully. Two questions for you: 1)Do the insides of your spouts get sufficiently glazed? and 2)How do you avoid glazing/firing shut the strain holes where the spout meets the body?
Simon, how do you prevent glaze from filling in the air hole in the lid since it is so small?

Pour glaze into T pot let it go down into spout first with finger over end of spout.Then swirl it & pour out of T pot.
Prick clean holes prior to glazing so they dont block.regards SL
