An MRI? It costs about the same, and similarly to you we don't get to choose when we get it, a Specialized Gov. Dr. does, but we don't get to talk to him or her unless an Internist decides. Once the Internist approves of a visit with the Specialist we have to wait till this new doc. IF willing, would give us an appointment to see the MRI Dr. –up until now this might take 7 months– to actually have the exam done, it might very well take an additional 12 months (continue..)

I am from US. We do not have an adequate system for healthcare. One must have lots of money, or fall into certain criteria to be helped. I live at the poverty level, yet do not fall into the "right" criteria. One either must be lucky or be able to treat one's problem with home remedies. Not all conditions that befall one can be treated with home remedies(broken tooth, injuries from an accident,major health problems) If the US is as great as they say...prove it.
It was just announced that Obama will limit the number of MRIs & CAT scans for people. This means that once a certain number of MRIs & CAT Scans are met Socialized Medicine will require you to get in line and wait for next year. Just like in Canada or Europe, if you are lucky you might get a MRI or CAT scan the next year if not, you wait yet again for the following year. America, you need to stop Soc. Med. before it is too late.

I wait a month for an appointment, I have to wait for the ins company to authorize my meds (that was fun when I had the swine flu...I could have died). Surgeries take about 3-8 months to get here. THATS if they don't cancel you for a pre-existing condition, or basically deny you for no reason at all. If you don't have health care, an MRI will cost you about $2500. How much is an MRI in your country?
I did not have health insurance due to a pre-existing condition so I went to a Community healthcare clinic that is lower cost for the uninsured. All I had to pay was $15 for having a physical and a blood test.
The community clinic doctor treated my leg right away--no questions asked.
If I had insurance, I'd have to wait too--and I probably would have died from a blood clot before the insurance company made a decision.

There are all of the patenting laws, the cartel-like barriers to entry, the shitloads of requirements required to practice medicine, the oligopolistic insurance systems, the red tape for medicine, etc. To make it cheaper, remove all barriers and let it be "regulated" not by self-interested bureaucrats, but by the consumer.

Food stamps are a very affective form of food voucher, and school vouchers have been implemented with wide success in pockets of the country. Look it up. I also recomend watching Milton Friedman on education here on youtube, wherein he discusses the concept of school vouchers.
Friedmans shortcoming is that not all good students and workers are competitive. Many would like to have their local school equipped to do the basics and not have to go shopping for a school. I live in italy where nothing seems to work, however, the school system here is far superior and caters many different professions. A student here graduates with a specific diploma, not just a general "high school" diploma.
It's not really about the students being competitive, it's about school competing with eachother to deliver the best product at the lowest cost, like everything else in the free market. Kids shop around for skatebords, and food, why wouldn't they want to shop around for something as important as education.
Simply because if you have to run a business, you must make a profit. Since schools don't produce anything material or provide a service to the open market is it the biggest mistake to run them as a business. Yes, the schools must take in account their expenditures but should remain for didactic purposes only. Look at public European schools as an example.
Milton Friedman gives an excellent case for schools to turn into business models and run more efficiently. It's only 5 minutes long or so, tell me what you think.

Private insurance companies and pharma have controlled healthcare into the ground. Notice: Each open enrollment period, insurance companies politely offer less, but arrange for you to pay more out of pocket. To maximize profits, they cherry-pick to cover those individuals who are least likely to become sick. Enough!

Not necessarily. Millions of uninsured people go to the emergency rooms and get treated, and just never pay the bill. Millions of 'illegals' do it every month. In fact, it's a huge burden on the states, especially Texas and California. Billions could be saved every year if we closed our borders and kicked out the illegals. Instead, the illegals are counted among the 'uninsured' Americans.
The REAL number of uninsured americans is about 15 million, the rest are illegals counted by liberals.
A Government Option regarding health care is very bad for Americans because all roads lead to Socialized medical system. Obama supports a "Single Payer System" like they have in Canada, the health care in Canada is sub par and imploding says top Canadian health care officials. If you want to give all Americans HC you will need to make Insurance companies compete state to state you will need tort reform to stop frivolous lawsuits against Docs that will drop HC costs dramatically. I can't say much about your first point (it could be true). But that's your government's constant inability to manage its books (regardless who's in power). Your second argument is wrong. If a publicly-funded program is started, employers would have less of a burden as they no longer need to worry about it. For your 3rd argument, if it had been mandated to be truly universal, that couldn't happen. Lastly, we have a better quality of life and live longer in Canada, and spend less on health care.

Well in the netherlands we have a mix between public and private health insurance, where you still have healthy competition between insurance company's and are free to pick your own hospital and doctor and where EVERYBODY gets good healthcare (which I think is a basic human right,). And we spent less than half per person on health care then in the US and pay way less for our insurance premiums. It is possible to get good healthcare for everybody without it being completely run by the state...
Get rid of the federal reserve and our money would be worth 95% more!!!! This way people can save their money for when they get sick. The government creates the problems and then gives us a horrible solutions!
Bottom line: I voted for President Obama and I respect what he is trying to do, but you can't implement such a radical change on such a grand scale (universal healthcare) without creating a supporting infrastructure first. If he wants universal healthcare, the government needs to build federal hospitals across the country and invest in scholarships so more people can afford to go to medical school. The private sector cannot handle the influx that would occur under what he is proposing.
I do potentially agree with the voucher program, BUT you must be mixing some weird prescription drugs if you feel that the VA health care system should be a model. I am a veteran, I called my local VA to make an appointment, they stated that they can no longer make "unsolicited" appointments by phone and that they are going to send me a letter in the mail telling me on what date to call a different number then they would try to fit me in within 90 days. HAHA, My guess is 60 days, we will see

Any private insurer must be a Non profit organization. - they cannot deny anyone - they must have system for those who cannot pay. Prices are subjected to Gov approval. Must prove a legitmate reason for price increase.

US averages are about the same time period if the surgeon or surgery are available in your state and your insurance or HMO might not even cover it. Average metropolitan emergency or walk-in clinic wait time in Canada is 45-60 minutes. Average metro ER wait time in US is 5-7 hours.

5500 Canadians at the absolute highest number went to the US for health care - This includes people for cosmetic surgery. As for 7 month waits. I have a very serious Wasp Allergy (4+ reactions) yeah that bad. When I go to the hospital they don't tell me to come back in 7 months or even 10 minutes. I get treated on the spot. even I waited 1/2 hour there is a very likely possibility I will die. My brother had a collapsed lung (complication from Weigners) he was not told to come back in 7 months..

An MRI? It costs about the same, and similarly to you we don't get to choose when we get it, a Specialized Gov. Dr. does, but we don't get to talk to him or her unless an Internist decides. Once the Internist approves of a visit with the Specialist we have to wait till this new doc. IF willing, would give us an appointment to see the MRI Dr. –up until now this might take 7 months– to actually have the exam done, it might very well take an additional 12 months (continue..)

I am from US. We do not have an adequate system for healthcare. One must have lots of money, or fall into certain criteria to be helped. I live at the poverty level, yet do not fall into the "right" criteria. One either must be lucky or be able to treat one's problem with home remedies. Not all conditions that befall one can be treated with home remedies(broken tooth, injuries from an accident,major health problems) If the US is as great as they say...prove it.

This means that once a certain number of MRIs & CAT Scans are met Socialized Medicine will require you to get in line and wait for next year. Somewhere you forgot to account for the fact that poor national health, and a 34% obesity rate--insurance pool risk that is the primary driver of rising costs--is also consistent with the claim that people (including govt) cannot make sound decisions due to inherent selfishness. And at least if this occurs in just about every other wealthy country, you don't have to bankrupt yourself just to get it. Only your insurance determines the quality you get in American hospitals. I'm had family and friends who nearly died in the care of this sick health system due to unnecessary surgeries and given the wrong drugs. So don't talk like you know something.

We're given Acetaminophen and Amoxicillin for EVERYTHING. Even doctors tell us that it's better to buy medicine form drugstores then the GovSys. My two uncles died during the past three years from lack of attention, in GovClinics. The only good thing about GovHC is that it's cheap, but you get what you pay for.Right?

Here In Costa Rica for decades people had by law ONLY ONE choice of Insurance Co., Bank System, Telecommunications Co. Health Care System, Energy Co. etc. all own and managed by Gov. Fortunately all of this HAS CHANGED practically 180º thanks to conservatives that actively resist. You don't have to worry about not coming here! Socialism is already in the US I urge you to actively resist it.

@mucast. Which country do you live in? I live in the U.S. and have health care I pay for. I wait a month for an appointment, I have to wait for the ins company to authorize my meds (that was fun when I had the swine flu...I could have died). Surgeries take about 3-8 months to get here. THATS if they don't cancel you for a pre-existing condition, or basically deny you for no reason at all. If you don't have health care, an MRI will cost you about $2500. How much is an MRI in your country?

I did not have health insurance due to a pre-existing condition so I went to a Community healthcare clinic that is lower cost for the uninsured. All I had to pay was $15 for having a physical and a blood test.
The community clinic doctor treated my leg right away--no questions asked.
If I had insurance, I'd have to wait too--and I probably would have died from a blood clot before the insurance company made a decision.
Now I have insurance through my job.

There are all of the patenting laws, the cartel-like barriers to entry, the shitloads of requirements required to practice medicine, the oligopolistic insurance systems, the red tape for medicine, etc. To make it cheaper, remove all barriers and let it be "regulated" not by self-interested bureaucrats, but by the consumer.

Ameritards, in general, are one of the most undisciplined when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle. I see so many people every day who are basically immobile, the sole reason appears to be they are FATBUCKETS. Also the amount of people in this country who abuse drugs/alcohol/food, has to be one of the highest in the world. Maybe the government should encourage insurance companies to give BIG discounts to their insured clients, for meeting certain health markers (weight, bp, nonsmoker,etc).

Ontop of that he explains, you can choose your healthcare provider, your doctor, and opt to buy coverage above the basic level if you choose to(i want the basic level laid out so it's not broad and like ridiculous costs for shit we don't need naturally, like liver transplants).

Food stamps are a very affective form of food voucher, and school vouchers have been implemented with wide success in pockets of the country. Look it up. I also recomend watching Milton Friedman on education here on youtube, wherein he discusses the concept of school vouchers.

Friedmans shortcoming is that not all good students and workers are competitive. Many would like to have their local school equipped to do the basics and not have to go shopping for a school. I live in italy where nothing seems to work, however, the school system here is far superior and caters many different professions. A student here graduates with a specific diploma, not just a general "high school" diploma.

Not necessarily. Millions of uninsured people go to the emergency rooms and get treated, and just never pay the bill. Millions of 'illegals' do it every month. In fact, it's a huge burden on the states, especially Texas and California. Billions could be saved every year if we closed our borders and kicked out the illegals. Instead, the illegals are counted among the 'uninsured' Americans.
The REAL number of uninsured americans is about 15 million, the rest are illegals counted by liberals.

· cause employers to pay their employees less money in order to finance the mandated coverage;
· be contradictory to itself, as evidenced by the 30,000 people being cut from Massachusetts universal coverage plan due to budget deficits;
· cause reduced health care quality when rationing becomes the means for lowering costs.

I can't say much about your first point (it could be true). But that's your government's constant inability to manage its books (regardless who's in power). Your second argument is wrong. If a publicly-funded program is started, employers would have less of a burden as they no longer need to worry about it. For your 3rd argument, if it had been mandated to be truly universal, that couldn't happen. Lastly, we have a better quality of life and live longer in Canada, and spend less on health care.

Well in the netherlands we have a mix between public and private health insurance, where you still have healthy competition between insurance company's and are free to pick your own hospital and doctor and where EVERYBODY gets good healthcare (which I think is a basic human right,). And we spent less than half per person on health care then in the US and pay way less for our insurance premiums. It is possible to get good healthcare for everybody without it being completely run by the state...

Bottom line: I voted for President Obama and I respect what he is trying to do, but you can't implement such a radical change on such a grand scale (universal healthcare) without creating a supporting infrastructure first. If he wants universal healthcare, the government needs to build federal hospitals across the country and invest in scholarships so more people can afford to go to medical school. The private sector cannot handle the influx that would occur under what he is proposing.

I do potentially agree with the voucher program, BUT you must be mixing some weird prescription drugs if you feel that the VA health care system should be a model. I am a veteran, I called my local VA to make an appointment, they stated that they can no longer make "unsolicited" appointments by phone and that they are going to send me a letter in the mail telling me on what date to call a different number then they would try to fit me in within 90 days. HAHA, My guess is 60 days, we will see

Any private insurer must be a Non profit organization. - they cannot deny anyone - they must have system for those who cannot pay. Prices are subjected to Gov approval. 5500 Canadians at the absolute highest number went to the US for health care - This includes people for cosmetic surgery. As for 7 month waits. I have a very serious Wasp Allergy (4+ reactions) yeah that bad. When I go to the hospital they don't tell me to come back in 7 months or even 10 minutes. I get treated on the spot. even I waited 1/2 hour there is a very likely possibility I will die. My brother had a collapsed lung (complication from Weigners) he was not told to come back in 7 months..

Sully we are a nation of 36 million and 5500 at the most go to US for treatment. There are differnent numbers, but I purposely selected the highest number. As for cancer treatment again - we dont go to the US in mass and we have very high survival rate. If you are saying the Canadian government does not treat Cancer...ths is wrong
