What an incredible tone. Hardly sounds like a harmonica, but what else can sound anything like it? Also goes to show you don't have to play a million notes a measure to make a great solo.
@all - thank you!! I hope to do more work with Doug Deming on the road soon. For those interested in blues harp or blues radio - I have new websites I've been working on, in between on getting ready for some new projects (see bluesandthebeat(dot)com or BadAssHarmonica(dot)com
In addition to Dennis incredible technique, timing and feeling on the harp, he has an uncanny ability to draw great musicians to himself... Doug Deming, Chris Vitarello, Mookie Brill, Jerry Scaringe, and more.
My friend Jim McDonald (Ol Sarge, the traditional harmonica whiz from Elk Falls Ks and I were just saying the other day "Why is Dennis Gruenling not a household word ?"
Notice how people just walk past and don`t even pay attention. But get some no talent bimbo up there shaking her ass and just watch the ignorant hords amass. Our society is doomed.
Dennis continues to impress. Nice third position solo! And that shakey thing he does on the last twelve bars of the solo is something I've never seen or heard a harp player do before! Great tune, great tone! Thanks for sharing...
that vibrato thing sound really cool! I can get that sound with a leslie speaker simulator, but I´ve never seen anyone doing that like him (at least I am pretty sure he is not using any effects for that).
@andreinnorway ~ He nailed it down, right! ?~ I've seen film footage of Walter Horton doin the exact technique, & lemme tell ya, he was nailin it down too. -- I gotta say this...there's been alot of fine harmonica singers & I'd bet there's more on the way!..But it seems to me, some of em' kinda sorta step over Horton sometimes to get Little Walter. This is a hell of piece though. I mean I truly dig it!!
Tasty Tasty Tasty. And, what? I gotta tongue block them all?

This is not a slur....
but he sure makes it sound like he's playing a trombone.....
which is an instrument I really like (Bruce Fowler)

This is one of the best (and I don't use the word 'best' lightly) harp solos I've ever heard. It really hit me.

I think you're right. It looks pretty dangerous actually! Don't try this at home, unless you have a great dental plan!
