I was in a very old church yesterday in Hawkshead in England. It's the church in the village where William Wordsworth was educated. There is an inscription on the wall beside the alter and it gives an insight into, what I believe is the reason for religion. It's only purpose is to control the masses. I'm with you. I won't say that I don't believe cos, if anybody can give me the evidence, I WILL believe. In the absence of any proof I just live my life in the right way. Hey I went through the same thing when I had my accident. My dad is a minister at a Southern Baptist church and everybody kept telling me that God was going to heal me. I soon discovered that it wasn't going to happen. I don't believe in those types of miracles, but I belive that PEOPLE are the miracle workers. The church helped me raise a lot of money for home modification. The world we live in is just a harsh place. However people should try to live like Christ and help out the poor and needy.

There are many regenerative claims around, and rising from the dead (which is ressucitation, not ressurection) which is a greater claim than amputation. So why is it that God so hates amputees and won't touch them with a barge pole? Backaches, headaches, limps, internal ambiguities, God sorts those out apparently. It would seem that no one who has lost limbs or is paralyzed has enough faith. It´s so sick and disgusting that people do this. I can relate to why you feel that way when someone talks to your family members about healing you with faith. Faith healers are the lowest of the low.

In July of last year I found Michelle in a diabetic coma. Prior to that, her diabetes was undiagnosed as we missed the symptoms due to her other disabilities. To cut a long story short, here in Canada a person's normal blood sugar is between 4-7 and hers was 70!! Her doctor told us that it was a miracle she was still alive and that it was obvious a "higher power" was working. She's alive today, and much healthier than before. Now I don't take life for granted anymore ... :o)
Please let me start off by telling you that I respect your point of view, even if I don't necessarily agree with it, as I'm a Christian. My sister Michelle's disabled and I don't begin to understand why God hasn't physically healed her yet. We don't know all the reasons but there's always a purpose, and I guess only time will tell exactly what that purpose is. I can only pray that you will come to understand this someday, and I'm certainly not going to try shoving anything down your throat.
I'm going to respond to myself here by saying that I don't believe in shoving anything like this down people's throats. The best I can do is share my own experiences. For the record, I don't believe that God physically heals people all the time. I've seen too many examples of when that doesn't happen. Spiritual healing is more important. The Bible says that our mortal bodies won't last anyway.

another example would be stem cell research. the suffering of all those persons that have multiple sklerosis or some other disease that could be cured with the knowledge we gain through stem cell research is REAL, while the sacredness of 100 human cells is NOT real. adult people that have friends and family and live a life suffer, and their continuous suffering is less valuable than the supposed suffering of some cells.

I was in a very old church yesterday in Hawkshead in England. It's the church in the village where William Wordsworth was educated. There is an inscription on the wall beside the alter and it gives an insight into, what I believe is the reason for religion. It's only purpose is to control the masses. The inscription was the 10 commandments, and in particular, the paragraph that comes just before them, it states the reasons for following the 10 commandments. Please read the follwing post.

I'm with you. I won't say that I don't believe cos, if anybody can give me the evidence, I WILL believe. In the absence of any proof I just live my life in the right way. I don't offend, hurt, mistreat or harm people. I will do a good turn for somebody but I won't do a bad one. If heaven is there and there is a god to judge me when my time comes, he will see that I have lived in a good way and he will let me in. If he can't see that it's his loss and not mine.

What really amazes me is how people can be suffering from a certain ailment and if suddenly the problem is gone they are ready to jump to the supernatural when doctors don't know. If people heard a radio transmission 500 years ago would they think it was god? Just because medical science does not know now does not mean they will never know. Nor does it prove god heals. If I pray for a cheeseburger and then I receive one does not mean god grants cheeseburgers. It means cheeseburgers happen.

That is the point of Christianity. Not to give people false hope, but to give us a good example to live by. The people at many churches are sometimes pretty ignorant and cling to false hopes, but they don't neccessarily want to steal your money.. lol. In fact they did the opposite with me. I feel God is just to big to understand, and put simply: "shit happens." That's just life. Relationships with great people is what life is all about.

Hey I went through the same thing when I had my accident. My dad is a minister at a Southern Baptist church and everybody kept telling me that God was going to heal me. I soon discovered that it wasn't going to happen. I don't believe in those types of miracles, but I belive that PEOPLE are the miracle workers. The church helped me raise a lot of money for home modification. The world we live in is just a harsh place. However people should try to live like Christ and help out the poor and needy.

There are many regenerative claims around, and rising from the dead (which is ressucitation, not ressurection) which is a greater claim than amputation. So why is it that God so hates amputees and won't touch them with a barge pole? Backaches, headaches, limps, internal ambiguities, God sorts those out apparently. Bigger and smaller stuff, with or without the need of the individuals faith too. Strangely, anything clear (amputation) is not touched.

When claims of rising from the dead arise - no pun intended (see 20 claims with Todd at the Floridsa revival) the faith of others is OK and enough.
Believers are happy to flock and voluntarily (without prompting) boast about witnesses, evidence, doctors having proof, what the medics said etc. but suddenly when proof is requested, it's - you sceptic, have faith. Can't you see the hypocricy, double standards?

In July of last year I found Michelle in a diabetic coma. Prior to that, her diabetes was undiagnosed as we missed the symptoms due to her other disabilities. To cut a long story short, here in Canada a person's normal blood sugar is between 4-7 and hers was 70!! Her doctor told us that it was a miracle she was still alive and that it was obvious a "higher power" was working. She's alive today, and much healthier than before. Now I don't take life for granted anymore ... :o)

Please let me start off by telling you that I respect your point of view, even if I don't necessarily agree with it, as I'm a Christian. My sister Michelle's disabled and I don't begin to understand why God hasn't physically healed her yet. We don't know all the reasons but there's always a purpose, and I guess only time will tell exactly what that purpose is. I can only pray that you will come to understand this someday, and I'm certainly not going to try shoving anything down your throat.

For the record, I don't believe that God physically heals people all the time. I've seen too many examples of when that doesn't happen. Spiritual healing is more important. The Bible says that our mortal bodies won't last anyway.

I am looking for stuff on Smith Wigglesworth because there is supposed to be video footage of miracles but I have not located them. However, the last thing I want is to go to hell with a healed body. I have a hard core christian friend who swears up and down that her tooth infecton was healed by Benny Hinn. I know it's not true, but I really don't know what to say to that... other than to wait for her to tell me that Satan put the infection back. Any ideas?

I am Christian but I don't believe in healing. And I don't write the chek to a church. I'd rather give to someone who really needs it. America is filled with Churchianity and part of that is running all of these healing scams and megachurches taking your money. Yeah it's heartbreaking...but that's just not real Christianity.

God CAN heal, the problem is when Christians, pastors, etc. Go out on their own to pray for healing without the direction of God, and then heap the responsibility for healing on the person who is sick. I'd let a little old poor praying granny pray for me before I let Benny Hinn touch me.

Yeah, some people do that with personal crisis, too. Then when you tell them your born-again friend or family member has the same problem, they get mad. They are religious predators, is what they are.

this is a great example that supports a fact that i am already aware of. faith is capable of causing unnecessary suffering.
how many people died because some idiots believe that the jewish race exists? until today, there is NO evidence that something like a jewish race exists, and there never will be, but that belief could be spread to a point that caused the death of MILLIONS of people in second world war.
as sam harris puts it, faith enables you to be absolutely sure with zero evidence.

another example would be stem cell research. the suffering of all those persons that have multiple sklerosis or some other disease that could be cured with the knowledge we gain through stem cell research is REAL, while the sacredness of 100 human cells is NOT real. adult people that have friends and family and live a life suffer, and their continuous suffering is less valuable than the supposed suffering of some cells.
faith can AND DOES hurt people.
