Actually they're not any particular breed. At the time they were introduced in the 1970's the ponies were acquired from Bill Pugh who was in the middle of developing a new breed - the Virginia Highlander Horse. He had acquired quite a few ponies for his breeding program - among them Shetlands, Icelandics and, significantly, Welsh & Hackney ponies. They have really developed and become their own breed over the years.

the ponies are in Grayson Highlands so they are named correct they have alot of different colors....i like riding horses there
