  • Why? Why? is this ending???? NOBODY said why? I do not understand why probably because the JACK Asses who run the MONETARY SYSTEM happy they have all the Spy Sattelites and communication sattelites and who knows what other secret satellites to control human population ...I wonder what will happen if they /fail yeah!! those sattelites in Outerspace?? Who will FIX THEM??

  • @deltaalpha21074 NASA isn't ending, just the shuttle program. The function of the shuttle program was to help build the ISS. It's hard to carry entire sections of a huge space station in a capsule, which is why they designed this reusable aircraft. Now that the U.S. portions of the ISS are completed, we no longer need the shuttles until we eventually build bases on the moon and Mars. But, since Obama cut the Constellation program and severely cut NASA's budget, it will take longer than expected.

  • @deltaalpha21074 (continued) Satellites are launched by their own rockets; and they can be worked on by astronauts using the traditional capsule. We don't necessarily need a shuttle to fix a few components on a satellite.

IMO, the budget for supporting war and the budget for NASA should be swapped. Screw wars, if we can find a planet suitable for our life, we can leave Earth and live on it ourselves. Wars are useless, barbaric and a waste of life. Space exploration is what we should invest in.

  • @thenewpunkrockkid Well you are half right no need for shuttle anymore ..but what would you think if I told you that technology they keep secret yes supre secret is the KEY ahhh how screwed up do you think a human body would be if Astronauts flew all the way to Mars? Bad very Bad...so what is needed is that ultimate Energy the one they have since 1947. I agree Space is sooo important for everything..THE KEY is at S4 .

  • At 4:30 something hits the shuttle. Imagine they jumped a bit there. Leaves a mark on the shuttle too.

  • Love how there is no more live feed when they are in space . Wonder why? Could it be that there are visitors from different planets? All I know is if there is nothing to hide then why not show live feed. Now that the program is privitized they can do whatever they want and capitalize on it .When will this planet get it threw its thick skull thhat these programs are supposed to be for the betterment of mankind and not some selfserving capitalistic ass.

  • @pampasg OR... when will this planet get it through its thick skull that these programs are supposed to be for self serving capitalistic asses and not the betterment of mankind. Joking of course, but I cannot name one current enterprise that spends so much for the betterment of mankind.

  • >.< I really hope it wont be the last

  • East Palo Alto's TALIBAN GANG Raided

  • Sorry but Discovery looks so big and bulky. No wonder the US government find it too expensive to continue.

  • I'm no engineer, but those two little struts hold the shuttle to the fuel tank?

  • @freeadplanet science we can do amazing things, but we first we need amazing goals

  • Is that something hitting the shuttle at 4:35?

  • @Cinemologist That could be some ice from the top of the tank, or a heat tile that came loose. Since they are out of atmosphere, the loose bits don't lose their speed right away, so they would not have made a hard strike against any surface they hit on the shuttle. Lets at least hope there won't be much worry on that event.

  • NASA makes me proud of being American!

  • whats the mission ?

  • That's a pretty expensive lighter

  • God Bless, Thank You for the science and memories

  • 0:33 Excuse me, do you have a light?

  • BTW... the nearest non planet bearing Star is 4 light years... that's 80,000 years at voyager speeds. OKAY? Did you get that? 80,000 years to a planet-less star. What kind of childish dream is it to think we are civilized yet to even attempt this? Look at Obama, the lame politics, Libya, Dictators, greed, lack of education all for the LOVE OF MONEY... ha ha and we wanna goto SPACE. I love space thoughts but GET REAL!!! Remember, 80,000 years to NO WHERE STAR!!!

  • If you don;t learn to take care of the Earth.. your childish plans to 'live in space' will be the largest blunder in the history of human kind. If you can not understand that Zero gravity or any lack of will change you, kill you.. that we need proper food from the Earth.. then you are a FOOL. Space is good and all, but without the Earth we are GONE... bye!

  • ???

  • Where do the thrusters land after they are blowned of the rocket?

  • @hstone39 Compton California.

  • @hstone39 In the ocean and i think that a team retrieves them.

  • they should land on the moon somrday, cant beleve its that close and never explored

  • @18wheeler76 NASA is a lie. Sorry jr spaceman.

  • @primoknoxville You obviously were born a few centuries to late. I think you would be happier in the dark ages, but dont worry we soon will crack time travel and will be able to send you back to were you belong, hell you might even become a king or prophet, at least if you paid any attention in history class.

  • @primoknoxville i was being sarcastic, but not sure what you mean when you say its a lie, what part,i mean the shuttle takes off,the space station goes over my house,so not sure what you me bad attitude sr.

  • Well I have to admit that I am absolutely horrified that I missed the final launch of Discovery. I have been waiting for this launch since November last year when it was scheduled to launch but I missed it because I was watching Gladiator. God speed as they say and good luck with their mission.

  • jeez people....stop trolling about oil and war. enjoy the video. its sad to see it go, but you can thank the federal gov't for defunding them right as they were planning to retire the fleet. Evidently Obama thought fighting global warming would be a better thing for NASA to do :P

  • anyone see that chunk come off the big tank and hit the shuttle? at about 4:38....just saying it was a chunk of something!

  • Before we consider branching out we HAVE to straighten out our current social and economic disorders, save we create a universal slave system.

  • Stop watching science fiction movies, all of you. Humans are like bacteria in the ocean when it comes to reach other planets outside the Solar System. It is all so far. Do some math.

  • Nasa Should had never team up with the evil Government , Say thanks to Barry Soetoro A.K.A OBAMA = The real terrorist. He ended NASA . Nasa should join the Private Sector (( No Government or No president at all ))

  • CTFXC FTW

  • 52nd

  • @shazzbot007 Yes the radiation is one of the major problems. You got space itself that's full of particles and moreover this blazing nuclear furnace that is our sun. Earths magnetosphere deflects most of that radiation. The Van Allen Belt is a spot where particles accumulate so although within the magnetosphere it has very high levels. I guess humans could quickly fly through it though. But what to do outside Earths magnetic shield? A spacecraft made from lead is not very practical.

  • The highest orbit a shuttle has ever reached was little over 600 km. If earth was the size of a basketball thats about 1 cm. Most "space" flights are even in a much lower orbit. It's all well within earths thermosphere. Hardly outer space. Beyond Earths magnetosphere is where it truly begins.

  • Holy shat Capcom is at NASA! Hell YEAH!

  • USA #1

  • at 4:33 theres a piece of the booster that is coming off, you see it clearly, then it bounces on the shuttles belly a couple of times, i do expect that Nasa is aware of that and are going to take EVERY freaking precautions to asure it is safe to get back home in Discovery.

  • @shazzbot007 Couldnt say better

  • Damn it.. I missed it.. Sht! Why not keep the thing going until the new program starts. I heard they want to sell it to another country. Well I hope to watch the last landing. Beautiful piece of equipment they made.

  • at 4:30 something hits the shuttle. Did you see it? how can it flip like that in space and bounce around... ? something also flys past the video at 5:30.

  • @TheEllisd77 It wasn't even in orbit yet, so the foam that came off did just what it would do around that altitude, bounce off and fly away. If it broke up into pieces as it hit, then that would have been a bad sign.

  • IT WAS A WHITE ELEPHANT $

  • great now russia wins the race

  • at 4:30 something hits the shuttle. Did you see it? how can it flip like that in space and bounce around... ?

  • @TheEllisd77 Nowhere near space yet and its a tile, a bunch fall off.

  • at 4:30 something hits the shuttle. Did you see it?

  • See that peice fall off! 4:35 into the the vid.

  • WHO GIVES A FUCK?

  • @scottishbadboytracks astronomy is one of the most important things on earth

  • @scottishbadboytracks sry.. for humanity

  • I don't care how much it cost to send them, that was badass, I would love to go up into space doing 2000+ miles an hour

  • Can not wait for the next type of shuttle.

  • It would be nice if all of that money and resources were used to help things on Earth, instead of blasting them into space.

  • @ChristopherJManess Ummm, if you took a third of our military spending and put it towards space travel we could colonize other worlds. People like you are a dead end for humanity.

  • @GodlessInfinity I am for repairing the Earth, not bailing out on it. I don't like the military spending plans. You assume a lot about someone you don't know.

  • @ChristopherJManess I'm for repairing the earth to, but we don't have to choose between repairing the earth and going out into space, that's a false dichotomy. Do you have any idea how much the space programs have benefited mankind? Every time you use a Cell Phone, everytime you communicate with someone over seas or use GPS, you're benefiting from them. This planet has finite resources, a tragic history of mass extinctions, and even the star will die, being chained to the seasons is a dead end.

  • @GodlessInfinity Ah, I see where you're coming from. My step-father worked for NASA when I was a child. I obviously am communicating through satellite technology. I prioritize other issues, before that. To me, the internet can fail, if I can't have clean drinking water. My need for a healthy environment supercedes space exploration. I agree satellites can be very useful in tracking weather patterns, which can save lives. I just see more immediate things that require that technology, on Earth.

  • @ChristopherJManess Yes but without technology we will save nothing, without technology we are doomed and so is the planet. We need technology to restore and maintain the environment. Think about it, even if all humanity were removed from the planet there would just be another global catastrophe the likes of which wiped out the dinosaurs at some point, and eventually the sun would swell up and kill everything anyway. We could seed new worlds with life, or wait on this one for extinction.

  • @GodlessInfinity Well, considering our track record, I would say we're messing this one up just fine. If we spread to other planets then we have to learn their conditions and make similar mistakes in order to learn how they work. We might get to a planet and infect it with our bacteria, killing all life on it, except for us, or we may pick something up from it. Either way, I am not trying to live forever, nor do I want my children to suffer the polluted filth I live in. I act locally.

  • @ChristopherJManess So basically you're saying that we've made some mistakes and can't do everything perfectly so we should just abandon all the limitless potential (not to mention limitless resources) that are right past our fingertips in this very solar system, and we should doom all life to die with this planet even though we're the only species with the potential to actually do anything more than simply live and die.

  • @GodlessInfinity There is always a flip-side. A balance. Everyday, meteorites burn up in the atmosphere, yet most people don't say, "Man, dodged that one, didn't we?". Plus, what other resources are we using to explore space? Even if we use resources from other planets, we are simply using them. This is a destructive fate. When we disrupt the balance between using and replenishing we create a cavity. If we have the moral question in mind, we would not use more than can be replaced.

  • @ChristopherJManess We do need a balance, but we can't just sit on earth and wait to die like some people advocate. This planet has supervolcanos, our sun may not always stay on the same cycle, and our climate is balanced on a knife's edge and has been very very hot and very very cold in the past. I sincerely want to see us begin using Cultured Meat and Vat Grown Foods as an alternative to taking up massive amounts of farm land and factory farms, but some seem to want us to live like Amish.

  • @GodlessInfinity The closer food is to it's original state, the better it is. I cook my bison on low heat, but don't go above 140 F, so the bacteria doesn't all die off. Plus, the animal grazes, instead of being shacked in a troff.

  • @ChristopherJManess Your statement is irrational and you commit the naturalistic fallacy, but if you want to eat that way go ahead, just don't try to discourage the rest of us from seeking alternatives that could feed the hungry and give us independence from the cycles of the earth, which history shows us are not always so predictable and not always so kind.

  • @ChristopherJManess By the way the mere act of cooking food removes it from it's original state. You should know this.

  • @GodlessInfinity Keyword: Closer

  • @ChristopherJManess You obviously didn't think this through, because by your key word "Closer" according to your logic uncooked meat is better than cooked meat, because uncooked meat is Closer to it's original state.

You commit the Naturalistic Fallacy, it's a logical fallacy, look it up.

  • @GodlessInfinity I think you misunderstand that some bacteria in meat is good for the human body, so it should not be overcooked, nor under-cooked. Again, there is a balance.

  • @ChristopherJManess Fair enough, some bacteria are good for us.

  • @GodlessInfinity Or to miss the Naturlalitsic Fallacy, healthy for the human body.

  • @GodlessInfinity So, how does the energy get used for this lab meat you speak of? It uses less land, but what about energy?

  • @ChristopherJManess You do realize that meat is just cells right?

  • Did anyone else notice what looked to be tiles fall off @ 4:33??

  • @edpotkay1 It came off the orange tank not the shuttle

  • good riddance-maybe now,the real advanced craft will come out.

  • There were good times...

    There were bad times....

    RIP

  • so much fuel burnt.... I hope this is really the last we waste our planets finite resource for just a few people.

  • @leungclj So what when Russia does it it is not a waste of our plantets resources?

  • @leungclj We're going to run out of resources on earth eventually, and when we do we'll wish to hell we had gotten out there and started mining the asteroid belt, and took the time to go siphon resources off of Titan.

  • @GodlessInfinity the only reason we will run out of resources is because all we care is the so call economic growth, which pretty much based on the idea where we have to keep buying useless junk to keep the economy going. And then we throw away these junk for land fill.

How about we start taking actions and rethink our strategy where every little thing can be recycle as much as possible, and things that are build to last, interchange parts for fast growth technology, many many things we can do.

  • @leungclj How about we not chain humanity to earth while spending trillions to manufacture obsolete military equipment just to dismantle it and keeping bases of no strategic value open? Humanity can't afford to just wait around on earth until some disaster makes us go extinct. There's an entire solar system out there just at our fingertips with nearly unlimited resources, and beyond that a galaxy in which just in our local star cluster there are at least 5 known earth like planets.

  • @GodlessInfinity yea, and if can get there, we are probably there already by now. For the fact we arent, we probably dont have the technology to do that.

  • @GodlessInfinity I don't think you have to worry about us waiting for a disaster to make us extinct.... we are doing a pretty good job without any outside help.

  • @mcap52 Except we aren't going extinct right now, and if we do in the future it will be because we failed to adapt as required by our environment. There's a very real possibility that we could make ourselves extinct, but if just abandon our quest for knowledge, technology and expansion out into space like some are suggesting then we will reach a dead end.

We should not be content to simply wait around for the end of the world, if humanity ceases to evolve it deserves to go extinct.

  • @GodlessInfinity Humans are above animals, we do not evolve. Does natural selection happen with us? The answer is NO, because our technology has created advanced medical systems.

You say we need to evolve? I think that's stupid, although evolution is a solution for animals, we humans don't need to do such things. We have the intellect to change the ENVIRONMENT to suit our needs, rather than changing our bodies to survive the environment.

  • @fog0death Ok well the science proves you wrong, at every level. Have a nice night.

  • @fog0death Oh and I see that you're a troll on a sock account, so have fun.

  • @fog0death BTW when I speak of human evolution, I don't just mean biological evolution.

  • @GodlessInfinity NASA is not going to save you.

  • @primoknoxville Save me from what? The Scientific Discoveries such agencies are currently working on, if used properly, could allow humanity to improve the earth and inherit the stars. With genetics or possibly even cybernetics we could eventually crack the aging process, with vat grown foods we could exceed the bounty of the seasons, with ectogenesis we could liberate women from the pregnancy cycle if they chose or bring extinct lifeforms back from the dead. What alternative would you suggest?

  • @GodlessInfinity I couldn't agree with u more. But I believe that all the NASA missions are only a worldwide Truman show and that they have already visited planets not even in our solar system, with their secret space program that we know more and more of, everyday.

  • @GodlessInfinity Meh. The galaxy won't miss if we become extinct. There have been several mass extinction events on this planet and 'it keeps on ticking.' There are ruins in South America that are older than anyone cares to admit, lest they be shunned by academia. My point is that we do have a nice thing going on here, but we are expendable and sooner or later another incredible "sentient" form will take our place.

  • @6of6 Exactly, if we go extinct no one will miss us, it will be as if we never existed. If we don't keep advancing technologically then one thing is certain, we will stagnate and we will find ourselves unable to solve pressing problems when they arise. Anyone who considers that an acceptable alternative to progressing technologically and expanding out into space may as well join an Amish community because they represent a dead end for humanity.

  • @GodlessInfinity Exactly! The life forms, including ourselves, that exist are relative newcomers or have genetically adapted to the ever changing conditions on this planet. Fossils reveal that we have diverged & adapted so far. It is a compelling strategy to harness our idiot savant-like technological prowess to extend & expand our feeding grounds. That pursuit should not come at the detriment of the rest of the life forms. Techno band aids are resource intensive compared to genetic adaptation.

  • @GodlessInfinity And why are we running out of resources? Because America is busy spending 1 trillion+ dollars on it's military.

  • @fog0death And didn't I make this point from the start? People who complain about our scientific endeavors which have given us global communications and digital quality television and global high speed internet connections normally don't seem to be complaining about the fact that we're literally spending billions to manufacture obsolete jets only to move them to another factory and immediately disassemble them (due to vested financial interests), if we spent that on NASA we'd own Mars.

  • someone ban this --> @leungclj

  • first, and was very nice launch

  • @blastingbam12 when will you fucking kids stop the stupid childish "first" comments?

  • @InfamousShogun when will you fucking kids stop complaining
