  • @IrishDudeNamedShamus haha i was goin to write the same thing, n im irish too

  • Now that's how you fight grizzly bears and robots.

  • I don't care how many jumps people do now, or how many revolutions. It simply doesn't get better than this. Boitano was always a master technical skater, but when he finally captured the artistry, he lit the skating world on fire. I remember watching this like it happened 10 minutes ago. We were so amazed. Absolutely beautiful.

  • @railynnelson Totally agree. This short programme was wonderfully choreographed. Now, I also loved Brian Orser's skating, but honestly I could never understand why the result was so close in Calgary, In my book, Boitano was head and shoulders better in both the short and long.

  • Can anyone find the video where he is fighting big robot in 3030? xD

  • I've never seen a man eat so many chicken wings!

  • THUMBS UP IF SOUTH PARK TOOK YOU THERE

  • @Interista55 Ah, I adored Brian Boitano and this particular perfomance long before South Park, but I'm still giving you thumbs for watching

  • @Interista55 haha...hes good though!

  • the brian boitano :D

  • The absolute most perfect mens skater ever. Beautiful and refreshing to watch his perfection on the ice.

  • This is really powerful. He appears to do this so effortlessly, like he doesn't have a care in the world. He definitely has a presence! Do a search for his Water Fountain performance on a lake in Alaska. It's so beautiful, it makes me cry every time I see it.

  • That was... special. XD He has really amazing jumps, I just prefer a bit more artistry to fill in the time between elements. Nice program.

  • What would Brian Boitano do? Kick ass.

  • Legend!

    The GReatest evah!

  • 2:42 : "Thank you, God!"

  • What would Brian Boitano do!?

  • Dude,Brian Boitano did a kickass job there,cuz that's what he would do! =D

  • @Random90sKid He saved the day and he followed through cos thats what brain boitano do!

  • His skating was brilliant. like Kwan's, because you never feel that he is going to make a mistake. You can just sit back and enjoy it!!! Brilliant!!

  • I saw this live in 1988 and have never forgotten it. And at 2:00 is one of the most thrilling moments in ice skating history!

  • @Susana1027 I find it interesting that when you watch the video of pre-1948 skaters they're axel jumps looked essentially like a death drop. How lucky you were to see this - its one of the best programs in the history of competitive figure skating.

  • there will NEVER be another

  • I wonder what Brian's score would be in today's judging system?

  • О том, Boitano гениальный фигурист знал весь мир и совсем необязательно было подтверждать его гений таким весьма сомнительным способом в Ванкувере.Браво Америка:Чемпионы 80-х обходят чемпиона 2010-это успех!!!

  • Wow, there hasn't been ANY male skater like him! Viktor Petrenko came close though...

  • Thanks for posting this, as well. I wanted to compare last night's performances with Brian's. So I watched this short program and the long program from 1988. After 22 years, his is still better artistically than anything I saw last night. He may not have had the quad, but, what he does technically is perfect. In my book, there hasn't been a skater before or after him that's as good.

  • Absolutely agree with you. This is, hands down, one of the best SPs I have ever seen - ever. He really performed from start to finish. Didn't look like a robot at any time throughout. He did what Scott Hamilton always tells skaters-let your body do what it knows to do. Brian did just that, & enjoyed the ride.

  • @dorightUSA His basic skating technique is incredible. Look at that edge control!

  • thank you for posting this; it made my evening. Brian Boitano will always be #1 in my heart!

  • this and yagudin's "winter" are the best short programs in male figure skating.

  • I havn't seen this for soooo long but I remember it like it was yesterday. This was the best olympics ever and the best skater (male or female) ever. There's been great skaters since, but none to match his quality, presence, or precision on the ice; not to mention his consistency and longevity. Today, skating is all about one jump after another, but along the way, it's lost the heart and soul and freedom that Brian displayed on the ice. NONE compares and no one ever will to Brian!

  • @bananastewss: This is the gold standard for interpreting a skating program through music. I've never seen anyone do it better.

  • @MultiRazorb "gold standard... skating programs through music" , well: Petrenko, Yagudin, Plushenko, Daisuke Takahashi, Mao Asada (woman) etc Russian school, in general, because they practice their rutines whith classical ballet.

  • WHAT WOULD BRIAN BOITANO DO????

  • @biglloyddobbs Brian has ALWAYS denied being gay. Any facts about his love life are kept more secret than Obama's Blackberry #.

It's hard to wonder about anyone from SF staying closeted in this day and age.

  • @MsSlowlearner Most know he is gay or figures he is.

  • @99akol992 Amen!My friend got to meet him years ago.He is very wary of fans and doesn't feel that comfty around them.He had two women that were stalking him then.

  • @99akol992 I see you live in Samoa. You must be on vacation or fibbing.

  • Comment removed

  • @99akol992 An none of Brian's family live in Samoa like it says about your profile.B S.

  • Comment removed

  • @99akol992 Then why in the heck does your profile show you live in Samoa? If you're not in Samoa, change it to the USA.

  • Comment removed

  • @99akol992 Thats why I don't believe you and others won't either.Lets just hope Brian never gets aids from some boyfriend.

  • Comment removed

  • @99akol992 OK,I think I believe you.I've read that Brian has an older brother and two sisters.I think one sister lives in Kansas.

  • Comment removed

  • @99akol992 Ok,so its Iowa.I know your family is very proud of Brian.I was a huge fan of his and got to see him skate a few times in various cities. Can he still land the triple-axel?I know he has had knee surgeries.I also enjoy his cooking show.

  • Lovely short programme. I could never understand why '88 Olympics was so close. Whilst I like Orser and his skating, Boitano was head & shoulders better in Calgary. He had great jumps and spins and a smooth classical, balletic style reminiscent of John Curry.

  • There is only one word to describe Brian Boitano - CLASS!!!!

  • Brian always have wonderful programs. I've always liked his music choices and so uniquely his that nobody or @ least seldom duplicated by others. This is the best SP program ever.

  • The best SP ever and the best skater in the history of the sport

  • I agree with all of these comments. This has to be one of the GREATEST figure skating performances EVER.

Considering his performance in the Free skate, I could NEVER figure out how 4 of the judges STILL put Orser in 1st place!!!

Of course, skating judging has ALWAYS sucked, and they're always COMPLETELY biased against American Skaters.

  • Brian will always be, to me at least, the greatest male skater of the last 30 years.

  • no kidding, Boitano rocks!

  • I totally agree with you. I cannot forget his free style too which had me awestruck. He is my hero and from my home town of Santa Clara, CA. My boyfriend went to high school with him. Many great athletes from our county, Brian, Mark Spitz, Bruce Jenner. What wonderful memories.

  • I loved this program when I first saw it back in 1988 (I was in college, and got my first VCR just so I wouldn't miss any of his skating), and I love it just as much 21 years later. Truly one of the greats, both the skater and the performance.

I skated to this same music myself in 1994, and made a black and white Victorian-style dress just to complete the image. :-)

    Thanks for posting this, bardtoob!

  • wich music is it? it s fabolous

  • The music is from the ballet "Les Patineurs" by Giacomo Meyerbeer.

  • loved the music and choreography...there was something about him that just lifted one's spirits
