Honestly i have a lot of empathy for most theists because they are "brainwashed" from basically birth to live believe the religious ideals they believe. when i was about 8 years old my older brother and i told my mom we didn't want to go to church anymore. we argued at first but after coming up with a lot of logical points my mom figured if we didn't want to go then we didn't have to. about a year later she told me i can believe in whatever i want as long as i'm a good person. i never even knew what brand of christianity we were. i still don't know what my mom, sister, or other brother are? they accept me though and we all love each other :)

I have to wonder about the stats which indicate that jails are full of theists and that the atheist populations in jail are very low when compared to the general population.
In a society [prison], where you must go along to get along....could there be atheists who pretend to be theists in order to fit in with a group that provides them with protection?

I have to say that makes complete sense considering how willing christians are to destroy peoples lives for not believing OUTSIDE of prison. Imagine what they would do if there were no laws to protect people for being different. The burning age is a perfect example. Yeah, you definitely have a point.

Well, the system of ethical rules you create for yourself is mostly the result of reason, or at least I would hope. The desire to be moral at all, however, is simply an innate, evolved feature that developed before our species even arose as a necessary part of living in complex social groups. We aren't even the only animals who show moral emotions. They are well attested in most social species.

My whole family is atheists and the worst that´s happened to me is my grandfather dying at age 86. None but one of the relatives I´ve ever met have had a divorce and that´s my mothers second cousin. All are upper middle class and none have experienced any serious disease or abuse.

There really aren't that many atheist that would stand in front of you and say "There is definitely no god and I know it", so it seems very unfair to us that the term "atheist" would apply only specifically to them.

when i was about 8 years old my older brother and i told my mom we didn't want to go to church anymore. we argued at first but after coming up with a lot of logical points my mom figured if we didn't want to go then we didn't have to. about a year later she told me i can believe in whatever i want as long as i'm a good person. i never even knew what brand of christianity we were. i still don't know what my mom, sister, or other brother are? they accept me though and we all love each other :)

I just don't think it is a healthy outlook to not question things, she questions many other subjects with no problems why is religion exempt from this? @joe744 the program was intended to show people atheists are normal people like everyone, it was originally a public access show only in Austin, Matt pushed for it to be streamed over the internet. They have the same aright to say they don't believe as the hundreds of christian shows have to say they do. There is only one atheist show in the US. Its by far more entertaining and interesting than anything Christians can come up with.
