  • Here's a tip for everyone: If you live outside of the US, Kosher salt will be sold as "natural salt" or labelled as "additive-free" :-)

  • Tried it today! Awesome and easy to make. I forgot to get Serrano peppers so I use jalapeno that I had ... also, bought cumin at Walmart and I got a better deal on it in the Hispanic section than the spice section ... more and it was cheaper :)

  • @jamiemc102

    Cool! Thanks for sharing!

  • OMG i had some of this sauce last night on fish tacos, delish!! Compliments to the chef! TFS

  • @usaearthling Thanks!

  • I made this recipe and we loved it :D But next time I'll add more spice since we are mexicans we love very spicy food :D

  • @conishuaa Oh yeah. Feel free to spice it up as much as you like! We like things on the spicy side as well.

  • WHAT THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN NORMAL SALT AND KOSHER SALT. IS IT ONLY MEANT FOR JEWISH PEOPLE

  • @Lumanix1 It's a coarse salt. You could also use sea salt.

  • @Lumanix1 BAHAHAHAHAHAH, not to be rude to you good sir but that is a hilarious question!

  • Hey can I skip the mayonnaise? :)

  • @Hopssy12 Hmmm. Not really, but give it a try if you're totally opposed to it.

  • subtitution for cayenne pepper? In mexico it's not really comun to find this kind of pepper.. can I use paprika instead? thanks a lot, I just discovered your channel and god! you are good !

  • @conishuaa Thank you. Just use a very spicy chili powder, whatever you can find.

  • @conishuaa Chile de Arbol is a perfect substitute for cayenne pepper. Do you have access to this type of pepper?

  • @OoPandaGirl89oO I have a lots of chiles de arbol at home :D

dried chile the arbol is common here.

I used paprika and it wasn't spicy enough(mexicans love spicy food)

Next time I'll try with chile de arbol :D thanks

  • Nice I watch your vids all the time and makes me hungry

  • @dezmania3 Thank you!

  • You seem like a cool guy-- as someone who's going to start culinary school, these are really helpful and easy, and make me look like an awesome chef already.

  • @Zeohi Thanks! Good luck on your career!

  • Is there any way I'd be able to preserve the sauce for longer?? Not afraid to use chemicals.. I'm the only one at home who's into sauces and I doubt I'll be able to guzzle down an entire bottle's worth in 2 weeks.. Thanks 4 the recipe!

  • @undeny Thanks for the comment! I wouldn't recommend using any chemicals, but you could try freezing part of it. I haven't done this however, so I can't guarantee the results. Give it a try and let me know how it works. Cheers, Jason

  • @ChefTips hmm... Freezing, got it! Lol and here I was, ready to go all 'military-preparations' on this :P!! Btw, I've already tried out ur 'Garlic Mashed Potatoes' recipe, i'm guessing (hoping!) my dad's not gonna b so worried about my future anymore xP! My mom went so far as to try and ease her daily cooking regime by giving me the Saturdays lOL! Never seen my little sister eat so quietly either ;D. Thanks 4 ur simple & wholesome recipe videos!

  • @undeny Great to hear you are enjoying cooking and having good results! Thanks for your kind words. More videos are on the way! Cheers, Jason

  • Hi is there anything I can use instead of the two types of salt's that you suggested? Please reply!! Could I use normal salt?

  • is there any substitute for sour cream? :)

  • @jersan0223 No, this recipe is best made exactly as directed.

  • @jersan0223 unsweetened greek yogurt is a great substitute. similar sour flavor and great creaminess.

  • @muncher541 Great tip. Thanks!

  • What's a good substitute for cilantro? Can I use celery instead?

  • @msldyexplicit I think it really needs the cilantro. Celery wouldn't come even close to the flavor.

  • @msldyexplicit Cilantro's actually very readily available.. Can't substitute veggies 4 veggies. If you've tasted it, its kinda distinct & key when it comes to flavoring. In my country its called "Dhonya or Dhona Pata (Cilantro Leaf)", we use it in almost every dish along with garlic & onion. Its the herb available everywhere I'd bet ;)!

  • thanks..doing some research , thats why! :) thanks chef

  • why is it called southwest sauce??

  • @xeeloveanil Southwestern-style spicy flavors...

  • I don't have a food processor =( Is it okay to use a blender?

  • @msldyexplicit Yes you can! :)

  • Hi Chef, greetz from Greece! I wonder if you can share with us a Sour cream recipe cause with all those different ones on the net I am really confused..

Thnx in advance, and keep up the good work!

  • @ronnin2011 You can use creme fraiche in place of the sour cream. Enjoy!

  • Hi Jason,

Can i use the normal iodide salt instead of kosher salt?

  • @TheTisha78 Yes, that is fine. Sea salt is also nice.

  • I'm in the process of making this right now. When I was in the store I used my phone to pull up the list of ingredients... however, when I arrived home, I discovered a few discrepancies between 2 of your recipes and now confusion has set in. On your Cookingsessions site, under the grilled chicken recipe, the list of ingredients is quite different (as well as quantities of ingredients themselves) as compared to the information provided in this video. So, my question is which one to follow?

  • @paul4pres08 Sorry for the confusion. I fixed this on the website to reflect this recipe. Go with this one. The recipe with the grilled chicken sandwich was an altered version. Cheers, Jason

  • the sauce is awesum with any sand witch or burger that i make..thnxxx..chef please help me out..my beef burger patty turns into a dark color when i fry it...what am i doing wrong or am i using the wrong ingredient?

  • @sabzilicious Try lowering your heat and cooking them a little longer. Glad you enjoy the sauce!

  • Men, I'm from Brazil and I used to live in CA for studies and I've never ate this sauce before, now I'm back and I did Culinary School and have my own Café. This sauce is the #1 fav of all clients. Thanks for sharing! Best Wishes!

  • @DavidRuizBrasil That is very cool. Thanks for sharing the info!

  • amazing!!!

  • I thought south west sauce had a pinky colour.

  • @zunkwind Depends on what you put in it. But trust me, this has a great spicy Southwest flavor.

  • Awesome, a must chef :D

  • I couldn't make it out, but what kind of onion was that?

  • @asmukkar Just a white onion.

  • wow looks good, can i hire you as a personal chef lol

  • @picframe000 Haha! Hope you enjoy it!

  • Thank you for this, Chef Hill!

  • i must sak, why is the cilantro leaves chopped if they go into the blender anyways ? :P

  • @Delcaroll

Hi. I like to give a rough chop to most things before I add them to a blender or food processor. You don't have to, especially if you have a good processor.

  • @ChefTips ok thx :D

  • I am in love with this sauce!

  • @selltheframe Thanks!

  • Hey, that is a nice recipe. I just bought some free range organic chicken today. I might just make that sauce to go on a grilled chicken sandwich!

  • This sauce is pretty darn awesome ^_^

  • after you add the mayonaise and the sour cream. you should add 1/2 table spoon of Dijon mustard and 1 tablespoon of chilli sauce.

  • @Rswipeable Hmm. Might be good, but then it wouldn't be Southwest Sauce anymore! :)

  • @ChefTips True, but it gives it a little kick. and by Chilli Sauce i meant Chipotle Sauce. :)

  • @Rswipeable Aah yes, chipotle. I thought you meant Siracha. :)

  • @ChefTips Never heard of Siracha :) is it good?

  • @Rswipeable Oh yes! It gives a nice spicy Asian flavor to lots of dishes. It's good on pizza and pasta sauce too.

  • @ChefTips Thanks, you just gave me the idea to replace the tomato puree on a pizza to Siracha. :)

  • @Rswipeable Oh wow. Be careful! I'd start out with just a little at first. :)

  • thanks jason for all ur videos ...ur doing a great job and keep it up..God bless u ..

  • @saba1honeybig Thanks so much!

  • Jason if i have no facncy cooking equip (food processor) what can i use? I don't have alot to work with here!! Im so excited to try this with the chicken sand. let me know my friend thanks!!

  • @mattsthoughts2010

Do you have a regular blender? If so, that should work. You will have to run it longer than I do with the food processor.

  • have you sauce for popcorn?

  • @EpIcStuntS2 No sauce, but I have a nice spicy-sweet seasoning mix!

  • If you were a real man. 3 Serrano peppers!

  • @UrmrslowguyROBLOX

Ha ha! Next time I make this, I will man up and use three!

  • is there a way to do this without mayo?

  • @liquid7848 You could try subbing it with yogurt or sour cream, but I can't guarantee the results. Let me know if you try it.

  • This sauce is awesome, I didn't have sour cream and not much mayo at all. I reduced all the ingredient portions except for the garlic and I added one tablespoon of mayo which is what I had (oh and no serrano pepper), needless to say the cause came out awesome and spicy!!!! It looked green from the cilantro, delicious! Used it on the grilled chicken sandwich, it's a must!!!! (For the sandwich I used a tortilla... because I ran out of bread :) Yum!!!

  • @aneon15 Thanks for your comment! Cheers, Jason

  • hey great vid...will deff make that

  • This sauce looks amazing. I'm concerned about putting serrano and cayenne in there together though. I like spicy, but not where it burns. I'm wondering if using both of them makes it really hot and spicy?

  • @Lillian0813 I don't think this is overly spicy, but you can leave out the cayenne if you are worried.

  • i dont like mayonnaise or sour cream :(

  • @i8mud4you Then I suppose you will not like this.

  • @i8mud4you try olive oil, little bit of garlic, tablespoon of lemon, salt, pepper to taste, shake in a tight closed bottle, use on steak, chicken, potatoes, salads etc... yummy

  • U sound like Joe from The Family Guy :D

  • I will give it a Try now ... thanks for the recipe

  • i really like what im seeing i will give it a try now :D Thanks for the recipe :))

  • @BelieberinEgypt You're welcome! Hope you enjoy it.

  • @pepperannziggi That would be fine.

  • @dansl70 Sounds great with the extra peppers! I've never frozen the sauce before, but it should be OK. Let me know how that works out for you.

  • I made this last night following the recipe used in the video. The only change I made was using a whole tomato instead of just half. It seemed like a quarter onion was way too much. We let it chill in the refrigerator overnight and had it with our tacos today. It's got a kick to it but the sour cream and mayo keep it under control. We love it! Thanks again Jason for yet another great recipe!

  • @BigRed50261 Glad you enjoyed the recipe! We like to chill it overnight as well to meld the flavors. Thanks for offering the feedback. Cheers! Jason

  • im going to try this sauce ..

thanks for the great recipes and keep up the good work

  • Why is the recipe for this Southwest Sauce different than the one on your website?

  • @MrTravisshort

Hello. I have two different recipes for this sauce.

  • I made this today, i decide to add your optionals, garlic and pepper, and it has a nice kick, the optional items def made it spicy. Would recommend this recipe!

  • @mdjk89

    Thanks for the comment!

  • i made a couple of your recipes I got to say they all been wonderful this is next on my list w the grilled sandwhich!

  • @mdjk89 Hope you like it!

  • hey really awesome man, i didn't know this was so easy and quick one too. i am gonna make it right away. my wife would love it, we don't get to make many western dish in India, coz most of the ingredients are not that fresh down here, Thanks a ton man. and i also love ur chicken marinade recipe.

  • @romanojoy143

You're welcome and thanks for commenting!

  • Hi Jason,

I was wondering that if I make this sauce with homemade mayonnaise can I still keep it in the refrigerator for two weeks?

  • @dantesfaria

Hello. You should be able to keep it as long as the homemade mayo keeps.

  • thanks to you i use this recipe on everything now and my very normal tasting recipies taste amazing now thank you so much :D

  • WTF? Where is the zynax gum, high fructose corn syrup, malcose, and preservatives? All I see is healthy crap!

  • Just got the recipe for the chicken marinade now the sauce! Thanks!

  • of course I am being truthful Chef. I get many of my idead from online forums and blog/video sites. And being a West Coast Guy living in frigid Illinois I love bringing some different flavors to this area.

Thanks so much for taking the time and sharing this.

    Cheers,

    Jason

  • I used this sandwich and sauce for my daily lunch special today. I own a small sandwich shop outside of Chicago. I served it on a pretzel roll, it sold out in 2 hours and everyone loved it. This sauce will now be a regular item on all sandwiched.

  • @turkeys666

If you are being truthful, then this is why I am making

these videos! Glad to help your sales!

    Cheers,

    Jason

  • No Sour Cream available in Germany. :|

  • @Kuchenrolle You can use a creme fraiche instead.

  • This sauce is my new favorite. I've been using it for salad dressing and it is supper good. Thank you.

  • I'm glad you like it! I've never tried it as a salad dressing. I bet it would be good with a Mexican-style salad topped with tortilla chips and cojita cheese.

  • @ChefTips

even better with a tuna salad

  • @Sh4d0w20

    Why not! =]

  • looks wonderful !!! thanks for sharing

  • Hey Chef, I'm liking what I'm seeing. Is there anyway you can possibly show some quick recipes that I can whip up? Not just something that I have to wait on? It would be much appreciated.

  • You are such a good presentator :D

    cheers x

  • Thanks!

  • @ChefTips would ranch work instead of mayonaisse?

  • No, I wouldn't use Ranch. It will change the flavor.

  • @ChefTips would hellmans work or miracle whip? t

  • @Obrutus1

    Use Hellmans.

  • Instead of sour cream, can i put whipping cream with maybe lil' lemon juice?

  • No, I'd probably stick with the sour cream. The whipping cream will alter it too much. Hope you enjoy it. Jason

  • Another wonderful addition to making food yummy..thanks lots =)

  • I loved this recipe! Trying it tomorrow!

  • Jason i seen on your site the recipe includes pickled jalapeno + Green Chilies but you don't add those ingredients in the video. Should you make it with or without those extra ingredients?

  • Oops, sorry about that. I have a few variations of this recipe. You can definitely add the chilies and peppers for a more spicy version.

  • wow! thats it!!!!!!!!! i am SUBSCRIBING TO you!

  • Thanks for the sub mrgame1000!
