I think Taylor felt that the group (including Chris) was the top group. That's why he shook Chris's hand and went over to the group he thought was the bottom , to show some support for them. You can hear him say "I'm sorry" at the last.

Taylor Hicks totally got a terrible deal after he won idol. His record company never even promoted him to radio nor made a video for him...they did that for Kat, Yamin, Pickler & Daughtry. Is that fair? f*ck no! But now he's doing it his way..rock on Taylor!

I don't blame Taylor for that. They make him do a lot of things; like the time he had to change his love song to "Just Once" instead of "Try a Little Tenderness".
