  • WELL ITS OBLIVIOUS.. THE CORN WANTS TO LIVE TO!

  • @GMFSSgtPowers SIRENS ROCK!

  • Um? Who cares?

  • @FusionBoy2010 Dang

  • cornfields! XD

  • lol Corn fields XD

  • are all the tornado sirens in Parke County whelen

  • @Heyde1979 Don't know for sure

  • corn feilds!

  • This one and several just like it surround the newport army amunition plant to alert the community to any accident involving vx nerve agent prior to the completion of the vx neutralization project. Once that project was finished, local government units had the opportunity to assume ownership and maintenance of some of the sirens. Several in Parke county are being relocated.

  • I tend to disagree about how these sirens should be placed. I think "outdoor" simply means that the sirens are located out of doors. Think back to the cold war. Everyone relied on sirens because that was all they had. There were no complex weather radios or other alert systems, and that's why they had sirens. Even today there are reasons to keep them close enough to hear indoors. My hometown had Thunderbolts that you could hear indoors, and they replaced them with T-121 which we now can't hear.

  • @edisonphono1 We also need more public tornado shelters in each town.

  • After people die, or places are damaged people complain that they didn't here the sirens. People should relize that thier is a reason they are called OUTDOOR warning sirens.

  • @terrellstorms Very well put. Everyone should have multiple ways of getting notified of severe weather

  • @stormmoss when those bad storms went through in october, thier was a mooresville school that did not put thier students in shelter all because the local tornado siren did not sound. what a vary dangerous and stupid move.

  • @terrellstorms They should have been monitoring it closer than waiting for a siren.

  • @stormmoss our school has a federal signal weather radio

  • ok..........what if u r drivin threw this area and ur car radio is broaken this would b ur only source of knowing that there is an emergancy "ryt" lol i think ist a good idea

  • @carolyn1091 That's why its always good to have backup plans in order. Also knowing what to look for in the sky/conditions and basic meteorology knowledge always helps. There is no replacement for what the human eye can see.

  • @stormmoss Yup your right way to many false alarms even this year. Then when the big one comes everyone will ignore. I plead guilty already to ignoring :P

  • @riitaalin Best thing to do is watch the weather wire which is available online in several places and know what to look for in a tstorm for a tornado.

  • Your Fed Tax/Grant Dollars at Work. Its Just Amazing where this money comes from :P

  • @riitaalin The only thing is when they don't work. And many counties still have the siren/alert network set up in that if a tornado warning is issued for ANY part of the county, the sirens will sound. I personally don't like that. They need to take some more of those tax dollars and update the system. If they don't, the false alarm ratio will continue to be high.

  • Nice 2910!

  • @bulldozer950 Cool I was trying to find what Whelen model it was, but was having no luck lol. Thanks again. I just happen to come across this siren while I was traveling in this area. Been nice if it could have been a testing day lol

  • @bulldozer950 WPS-2908, actually. This one seems rather low mounted too.

  • @murrfarms I kind of noticed that as well in comparsions to the othe Whelen's that I have seen online. Not sure why this one is.
