This is an ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT composition by this truly soulful vocal stylist!
I loved his work with Kenny G on the "G Force" recording with his special vocal talent in "Do Me Right." So funky!! His production effort knows no bounds!
I remember this song!! My mom's crack head boy-friend use to bump this.. He was a crack head but did he have some jams back then!! 30years ago...... wow where did the time go!
Kashif, I have been an avid fan your's, Since hearing your first album,I fell in love with the voice. Your age and mine is in tune and I have always look for your recordings. I have a brother that has given me a cassette donated by a co worker. I am not computer smart but today, I have found you again, goooooood listening and please don't change.
The 70's, 80's and 90's where the decades of the best music. I am so glad to experience it. I would rather listen to this than the crap they are making nowadays.
Im 43 i, and i wish i could go back to that age, just for a week! lol go to all the clubs, and do all the stuff we did at that age, listening to this music! jacksons in staines, queens, chertsey lock, al little later in life maybe! Laura
Sad that most people's perception of the 80's is hair bands, flock of seagulls, Madonna - like the whole decade was a joke; thanks VH1 and MTV. Such a productive musical era in synth R&B, funk, jazz fusion...
@ArchieGe Thank for that insight, I did know all the great singers that sang background on this track, I guess that why this song has a love come down feel to it cause Evelyn King sing on this track!
Also B.J Nelson, Fonzi Thornton and Michelle Cobbs sang background vocal for Duran Duran as well as Robert Palmer in the 80's in the 90's too.
I love the "Kashif" sound and I love the fact that the way the word "lover" is enunciated in the chorus when they say "Lover turn me on!" sounds reminiscent of the way Michael Jackson would sing that in high note if he was in the song. It's like an extra bonus.
Yeah, it's the quintessential 80s sound, but this man came by it honestly, because he helped define the decade. Really listen to this song, and appreciate the production value; he thought out every note and beat from the synthesizers, drum machines, authentic instruments, etc. Evelyn and Lilo are there to enhance this track, but it's clear this was Kashif's record! THIS is the man at his best!
Desmond and Trevor Shakes ...upstairs the Ronnie Scotts [the maze ] first timeI heard this song and the they played the whole L.P. I bought it the next day ,!!!
Wow I wish he would do something else. We need more artists like him. His voice is so smooth. I just saw him on Unsung with Evelyn "Champagne" King. Wow I miss his voice so much.
OH! the good times of the 80's!!!!! This song got an infectious groove and vocal arrangements that makes it a Masterpiece 80''s Gem. This should have been a BIG crossover for Kashif. Many great R&B 80's songs with crossover appeal never were heard outside of the Black Urban market and this was one of them.
I really like this song. So far the play count on my itunes is 205 and counting; that doesn't even count the times I've listened to it on youtube and in my car!

what an amazing guy. producer, musician, singer, songwriter. real african-american talent. not this new crap. they used the new technology back then, but they put real SOUL into the electric sound, which just hasn't been done well since, that's why we keep coming back to it. this is the sound that should of kept going in the urban market, but it got so computerized and fake. funny that's the stuff the kids like, morons.
Great song!! I thought Kashif was one of the best singers and producers from the 80s!! Real Rand B at its finest!! Underrated by far!! He produced some great music from back in the day!! You knew a Kashif song when you heard it!!
Wow this is one cool mutha of a tune! Times when you could walk down the street with your girl on the arm no worries, remember going to all the souls clubs in Manchester. No mortgage then no kids and lots of hair!

Remember hearing this over NYC back in the day like it was yesterday. At that time, good dance music was all over, now you have to go to europe to turn on the radio and easily find a ton of good music. I also have a good Kenny G album from the early 80s by this same producer, Kashif, was a good LP.
First heard this Album upstairs Ronnie Scotts in London Town Desmond the D.J. at the time played the whole L.P. I could not wait to buy it !!! Long live Groove Records and Blue Bird Records and what ever happened to Gregg Edwards !!!
u kno thats my god daddy. all seriousness! I just saw him for his bday. he was in nyc w/ mi dad whos also a musician. His name is bashiri johnson. U think im lyin? call him up! im maia.
I think I was like 9 when this hit came a live but I began to appreciate kashif in my teenage days. All because that was all my Brothers played. This is great music I tell u.Its so hard to compare present day music to this.I dont know somebody please ague with my point.
I just looked thru my old crate, I thought I had this song, (did Not) but I do have two of his albums, kashif had much skills back in those days... Long Live the eighties.
This is an ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT composition by this truly soulful vocal stylist!

Maybe Kashif can write some songs for these non talented non soul singers today.
The music today is so wack. There is no soul or rhythm to the music. No good beats. Just a lot of stupid lyrics.
All of the singers like Beyonce, Rihanna and the others that no one really knows their names All of them sound the same. Their voices are so shaky.
Their brand of singing is generic. The songs they make can be sung by anyone.
Jennifer Hudson is really letting me down. Where's the soul?
