Lets think about it a little more. Will statehood actually give us what it is that we need to survive as a group? Is it necessary?
I think alot of us a misleading ourselves into believing that Statehood is the answer to our immediate problems. The American geopolitical construct is something that must be analyzed more before establishing statehood as our prime solution. As of now, Statehood seems nice but i do not think its what is cracked out to be.
Shit they should be a state! how pureto ricans are in america! and the crazy people who want it to be its own country should be shoot! Pureto Rican statehood now!
To speak of independence from the United States is absolute treason. Puerto Rico should take note, just as well as Guam, American Samoa, Midway, Micronesia, and the Marshall Islands.
Absolute treason and if necessary, the use of force to qualm the rebels in Puerto Rico.
Excellent video. This should be shown in schools. You would be suprised at how many Americans don't know that Puerto Rico and her people are part of America and are due the same rights and freedoms we in the U.S. enjoy on a daily basis.NUNCA DERROTARAN LA GENTE UNIDA. THE PEOPLE UNITED WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED.I believe united with our brothers and sisters in Puerto Rico there is no enemy that cannot be defeated and no predijuce that cannot be overcome.
If PR become a independence island, it won't be the same as Cuba because Cuba doesn't associated with any other countries. The independence party want the independence to have the polical tools to make their own decicions of import or export product,to associated and make deals with many countries and to keep a pact of friendship and freedom with peace to any country including the United States!!!!
why makes you think that PR as independence island would be the same as Cuba, did someone told you that, your studied the idea of the independence,or you just come out with that.
why you do think that, don't tell me cause your parents, your friends or people you know told you that.If you don't research very deeper about what it would be PR as an independent island, but is not, then you post that comment cause you're a victim of the same old excuse of fear!!
I am sure that I will not be able to see Puerto Rico becoming a state of the nation, but I certainly will support what I believe is fair for us. We, the people of Puerto Rico, have the right to request for justice and the bravery to accomplish the victory, justice and victory one since for all, for sake of God and for the benefit of our next generation (our children).
Diablo la leccion de historia esta cool, pero la cuidadania americana que se nos otorgo no implica una promesa de estadidad.Pero adelante al PNP pq la mejor manera de ser Independientes es exigiendo la estadidad. jajaja
The real solution for Puerto Rico is statehood. Becoming a state of the United States of America is the best Status to offer to Puerto Rico.
It is true that the beginning of whole this issue is founded on a political, an economic, and a strategic interest from both sides (P.R. and the U.S.), that is why I calculate, since the actual U.S. international reputation, is not going to be easy to get rid of us. In conclusion, for some people (like me), this feeling of been part of the U.S. has become more than a simple economic or what ever interest....
Originally, i thought that Statehood was the only option. But in fact, internal economics could certainly work to our favor as an Independent nation. Perhaps this will be the key to ensuring economic prosperity post-Independence and the survival of our vibrant culture which will otherwise be crush by that of the United States. Independence only, if we maintain a healthy relationship with the United States. I think this holds the key to a greater Puerto Rico.
you are completely wrong. Puerto Rico's culture would not be crushed by the USA. There is no similar culture between that of Texas and Hawaii except the love of their country. Puerto Rico would always have a unique culture. Only in the USA its economy would be boosted. Look at Hawaii they were in a similar economic condition as Puerto Rico before Statehood. Now they have a gdp per capita greater than the average western European country.
Im actually for becoming the 51st state because we have no other choice. However, be mindful that the "Puerto Ricans" on this video and those around the San Juan area, are snobs who look down upon other Puerto Ricans trying to make a living (minimum wage).
My point is, that the people who want "statehood" mostly (90%) could care less for the common man.
The existent mis-education regarding the status options and their consequences will give an unfair advantage to the statehood. There is an educational process that needs to occur before the status could be resolved and sympathizers of each option should get involved in the status resolution to assure the least biased process.
H.R. 900 proposes to hold a first plebiscite to decide between U.S. territory or not. If a non-territorial option is desired, a second plebiscite will identify the preferred status among our people in Puerto Rico between statehood and independence. In the first referendum, the non-territorial option will definitely win, leaving the independence and statehood as the only options.
The video is indeed educational. However, the H.R. 900 is a biased process favoring statehood as a status option. This project, coming from a group of people that openly favor statehood, is considered unfair and antidemocratic for our people.
The Governor and the PDP are scared of losing their precious Miss Universe pageant and Olympics because they KNOW that at the end of the day, Puerto Rico will finally prevail as the 51th State of the GREATEST nation of the World.
The time to act is now they say it... whe have to vote for fortuño he's the only one that can bring uss the things they say on that video... please VOTE FOR FORTUñO ROSELLO IS BAD !!!!
Very proud to have such a person representing us in Congress. We want him at Fortaleza. Time to share a view for the future that will change the perspective of change and progress. We are with you Luis. Do not hesitate. At the end you will prevail.Vega Baja is with you, though our so called mayor is not. Count with many votes. Good luck in Aguadilla on monday.

@isbeltv I agree! I think our generation has the capacity to understand and study the different options that have been laid out for us.
De esa forma podríamos hacer un voto consiente y sin ningún tipo de temor.
