@Oceanmachine27 You cannot say that Dr Who will run, until the year 5500 and anyway will who are alive today will be lonf dead and passed away by the year 5500 that is assuming the world is not gone by then anyway the world could be destroyed we don't know that and cannot know that.
I'm humored at all those crabbing at the poor reporter's accent butchering Pertwee's name. Silly British and their accents. Why can't they all talk American like proper people?
It's also worth noting that at the time it was commonly socially acceptable and not at all unusual to refer to the Doctor as Doctor Who. Cereal boxes, cookies, coloring books, they all go ahead and refer to him as such. Why even the show's credits refer to him as such through most of the classic run! Funny, that.
I loved how he asked the interviewed "Would you like a Jelly Baby?" .. this being before his first series ever aired.. I bet the interviewer was a bit confused. This is by far the best TB interview around. Shows how he never really changed as a person, even after all of the success. Best Doctor ever!
That interviewer was such a fUCKING prick! First off, It's Jon PERTWEE, not Jon PITUIE! Secondally, Doctor Who is the name of the SHOW, not the CHARACTER! The character is always known as "the Doctor"!
If I were there during this interview, I would have beaten the living shit out of that interviewer!
I have this on a DVD. I can't remember which though. I love the end bit where that man comes out the bar and scratches his head in confusion. Very funny. But you'd do that too if you saw two cybermen walk in for a spot of lunch like that.
PERTWEE you stupid Interviewer !!!! not " Pu-tee " . . . . berk ! . . . .
That Cyberman he askes where Tom is at the start thou sounds like Tom , he must have been in that suit .
Interesting when he give that Interviewer a Jelly Baby , i wonder if because of that someone decided that Jelly Babies should be his Doctors little snack ? . . . . maybe . . .
shame that they never get reporters that know anything about the show, even in the matt smith interviews everyone still asks him wat its like to be doctor who
Thee Doctor!!....He's always been very honest about his life before 'Who'......If you're a new-timer you should get your mitts on his autobiography... 'Who on earth is Tom Baker?'...You'll pee yourself!!
Well from what my grandmother tells me, that's what they called him back then. Until these days, he was just doctor who until they shorten it to the Doctor.
@warriorsfan19 Actually he was never 'addressed' as anything but "the Doctor" in the classic series. The first time I saw it I didn't know what I was watching because they never name him, I just remember being very very young and thinking the show was strange and creepy. I didn't rediscover it again till years later.
@LordThree I understand that I'm talking about when the interviewer called him Doctor Who and when the credit roll at the end of every episode he is known as Doctor Who.
Here's a copy-paste from Gallifrey Base in 1974 ... "He's too weird!", "Bring back Jon Pertwee!", "He seems like an idiot!!", "He's got stupid hair!", "He won't last five minutes!", "I think he's going to make a terrible Doctor!", "He's far too young!", "He can't act!", "He's not high profile enough!", "Get rid of him!" ... page after page it ... Oh the humanity ...
@themindrobber Yeah, I think most of us have fallen into that trap at one time or another. These days I trust them not to put a complete idiot in the role and wait until I see the new Doctor in action before I make any judgment one way or the other.
@themindrobber 2 things. 1: How can there be statements on the site if the internet wasn't invented back then. 2: just goes to show the militancy of this fanbase. People literally ALWAYS react negativly to the new guy. I think thats actually an important part of the experience the inital resitence and then acceptence and then overzealousness of a new doctor
What I love about this interview with Tom is that it was recorded before all the adjulation about his playing the Doctor crept in.. We see Tom as he was before the public had him in their minds, and if you look at it he's almost like a child who still hasnt found his own real character and so in some respects... the Doctors character found him!!!
This seems the way with all of them, that's the awesomeness about Dr Who - the actors bring a little of themselves to it. So in recent times, Chris brought the brooding Manchurian, David brought the tortured eccentric, and Matt will bring - well, I look forward to seeing! Roll on Spring 2010.
DT is certainly our gen's Tom Baker though. Right down to the big, BIG eyes lol.
The interviewer is a right idiot, its the Doctor not Doctor who, thats just the name of the programme. Tom Baker's brill, best voice in the world, and sexy!
Someone please tell the Interviewer that the characters name is "The Doctor" Not "Doctor Who", Sure it was nearly 30 years ago but screw it, tell him anyway
This is great! That look in his eyes in the beginning when he said "certainly" and the expression on his face was priceless! Don't even get me started with the Jenny Babies! I now see why The Doctor likes them so much. Unfortunately Jelly Babies are not readily available where I live but I managed to get my hands on them...and they are addictive!!!
Tom and David are my favs. Whos the guy doing the interview? God hes crap. Jon Patwee? Whos that you Muppet. Its Jon Pertwee. And its the Doctor not Doctor Who. This interview just show how great Tom is/was. What would be a boring interview with other TV actors Tom turns into TV gold. Would u like a Jelly Babie lol.
He really was the David Tennant of his time!

Caught up in a sort of rambling about his costume.

And then keeps right on going.
