  • Is the speaker clear about the distress relay process from boat to boat using VHF DSC Class D radios? Did he ever mentioned a Distress relay function on VHF for recreational vessels? Unlikely.

It is NOT an automated process. You supposed to key in all data about the vessel in distress. Of course, DSC is great, but you have to learn and practice with a simulator. Can use the Mercator VHF radio simulator.

  • and the dsc just sends out an audible alarm on channel 70, if you receive it in your boat station, you will change to channel 16 to communicate with the vessel in distress

  • whats with the Cospas/Sarsat Satellites? the dsc will sent signals to the satellites aresceivend from there to the Coastguard, sometimes SES first and they contact the Coastguard/Rescue Radio Station. and the next boat, (B) will receive the message that there's a boat in distress, it will not just sent a signal to C D E F G H until the next land based rescue station picks it up. it wouldn't be a smart technology if it would just hop from vessel to vessel.
