Of course ATI is a good choice, well, just AMD now. Price per dollar you get more power for your money than with Nvidia. Nothing wrong with Nvidia, just no sense in paying more for nothing. PhysX? The ONLY reason ATI/AMD cards don't use it, is because its Nvidia's property, they wont allow it. ATI/AMD cards can handle any and all physics. Besides, PhysX is hardly used anymore, game developers don't like to use proprietary physics engines when they can do it themselves or use Havoc. Great game!

Time to blow the haters minds! People who play the S.T.A.L.K.E.R Series don't care about graphics. These games weren't meant to look like Crysis, what they have done is create a fantastic atmospheric experience not found in many other games. The "judge a book by it's cover" just doesn't cut it anymore people, try to enjoy it for what it is, not for what it looks like.

the stalker have not a good engine for example: crysis i put it with all settings in high and it has better graphics, more vision distance, and better perfomance, in stalker i see flowers spawning 5 meters from me,and a water wich looks like black jelly

i downloaded this benchmark. quite dissapointed. it looks nothing like dx11-like graphics and shaders. And that draw distance: look at all those grass bits popping up everywhere! pretty disgraceful :O

now metro 2033 - THAT'S dx11 graphics! and i can run it at 15fps! yay lol

Example: Ati radeon HD 4850 comparing with GTS 250. Same power cards (HD 4850 dx 10.1 but only 512mb, so what) ati = 130$/gts 250 = 165$ . Im guessing the price but this is for example

Really the graphics don't look too great in this benchmark. The benchmark shows only outdoors, and from some distance.

Stalker looks best at dark indoor bunkers, labs and such.

When you're playing it's very easy to look past the few minor graphics flaws like the grass. The light rays look amazing in-game and the nighttime atmosphere is bar none in my opinion. Gremlins ate my shiny new HD5770 when I was playing this game, still waiting on the replacement, I tried with a puny X600 but I get about 4 fps... but OMG! is it awesome, regardless of the graphics. Definitely the best of the series :)

@naklajat I just can't agree with you :S I've played all of them, and I'm a huge stalker fan. On my opinion the first one (with the fan upgrade patch) is absolutely the best one.

Clear sky was pretty awesome, but it was too short. The third was short too, and was a little boring....

The only annoying thing about this game is that the grass fade distance is fixed, and I have found no way to extend it. Otherwise, the shadow and lighting quality is exceptional, and with graphics mods looks way better.

The graphical difference on high spec systems is very little. It certainly doesnt make or break this game no matter what graphic setting you have, its simply awesome to play.

I've heard the game won't give you maximum texture quality unless you have 1gb of VRAM, so unless you've got a 1gb 5850, this isn't max

these graphics just suck ! its still the same stuff i saw like 10 years ago in video of stalker SOC teaser i was stunned but then 5 years nothing and they release the game SOC . and the graphics in this one are still the same with some new effects wohoo. sorry i`m just not impressed .. but dirt 2 is something else ! thats the dx 11 raw material right there !

Stalker is like Arma, it has to do alot MORE graphics, so individually it doesn't look like Crysis or FC2 or a RACING GAME.

Seriously; I have SoC installed and have played it within a week of playing CoP and there is a phenominal amout of difference.

Racing games have no excuse for not looking fantastic as they have so little to concentrate on; and on that stardard, Dirt 2 is just "decent".

not much... because of the youtube's copression even in HD quality this video sucks (original 720p video much informative). In this benchmark DX11 (compared to DX10.1) gives us more realistic shadows, lightning and tesselation (only stalker's models end some items). In 1920*1080 DX11 all maxed out my system (Q6600@3.2Ghz + 8GB DDR2@1001Mhz CL5 + HD5850@901/4600Mhz + Win7 Pro x64) showes 20-60 FPS (35-40 FPS average).

You'd think all those graphical wonders would help with the horrible horrible draw distance, foliage, animation, models, mapping in general or blandness of especially the unlit areas... but no, this engine still fail horrible by all of these standards.

GSCs devs are a bunch of idiots. Period. I can only hope at least their quality control has improved...

P.S. i love the STALKER series cuz its a hell lot of fun and the graphics are great and can be runned on every computer past Pentium 4 :D

@yorikde, I have ATI 5870, and yes... it is a very good choice... IF you want high framerates and stability. But if you want definition, and a better video quality... well... ATI is not good. My last two cards were nvidia (the last one was 12 years old), but the quality was better than my current 5870. The nvidia cards however, are not stable. And if the PC uses HD audio... man... what a mess.
