I saw Elizabeth last night at Knuckleheads in Kansas city and man, is she entertaining. As funny as she is talented. I yelled this out as a request and she played a lovely version with guitarist Tim Carroll (a snazzy songwriter in his own right) and bassist Bones Hillman. How Midnight Oil's former bassist ended up playing with Elizabeth Cook is anybody's guess, but I just think it's cool. If you get the chance, do go see her live.

Produced by Rodney Crowell, who's worked with many greats, and was a member of Emmylou's backing band in the 70s. That should be country enough for anybody.
she has a natural gift and it is not put on also not overly perfect that is what make's her so good at singing her song's and her feet can move and she has a good little band ..
Awesome! Hey levvy....streamlined or talented? Her accent isn't faked and neither is her background, unless you count being raised by parents who performed in all manner of honky-tonks and dives, from cent.FL to Memphis.
Her brother lives next door to us and gave me one of her cds. Since then I have listened to her songs non-stop. I also met her last fall. She's one of the nicest people I've every met and her dad is hilarious too.
Elizabeth is a young country artist. She's got the bonafide cred of a drug addled family member, a Mom who sang mountain music, a Dad who did time for running moonshine, and she is not ashamed of her accent. (Crickets chirping)
That makes her country enough for me. She's no Emmylou Harris or Tanya Tucker, but who is. Elizabeth is a beautiful girl, and she knows her music. I like the combination. Seeee yaaaaaaaaaaaa!
I met her and she told the story of the time Lou approached her, took her by the shoulder and looked her in the eye and said "You come from a pure place." He loved her cover.
I agree that this is a great song, doesn't seem Classical to me, but it is surely a classic. This is neither generic nor shallow; it's an awesome cover of a great song by a great band. Lou would be proud. If it put you to sleep, I hope you're still there.
It's a Velvet Underground song written by Lou Reed. A lot of their songs had to do with urban life and I think Cook's version captures a rural transplants view of the city very well.

Would you say she was a "amateur pro" singer? I never heard of her before she was on Letterman a few days ago.

Beautiful cover of a great song. I have a harmless crush on Elizabeth Cook, but my wife can't stand to hear her 'cause she's jealous--LOL.

I love to hear her talk (and she's not to hard to look at, either)!;)
She's as country as a red dirt road, and not a damned bit ashamed of it. So am I.
Go ahead on, girl!

@toterola451 Are you kidding me? Cook is about as country as smog and skyscrapers, and so is the streamlined production of her work.

You took this great classical song and turned it into generic shallow country tune. I almost fell asleep.
