@MrBigben1952 When recording, Gene Cornish would play bass guitar most of the time. For live performances, Felix would use the bass pedals on his Hammond.
Met Gene 3 years ago at a Beatlefest event of all things....was a truly nice guy... took a few photos... couldn't believe I was standing right next to the guy...ultimate goal is to meet Felix
Felix didn't take a back seat to anyone when it came to soul cred, nor did the rest of this awesome band. I get choked with emotion listening to such great, great music.
@57highland Far be it from me to ever deny America the absolute entitlement to the phrase "blue-eyed soul", but if the guy was born in Canada then he's Canadian. Why do you find that so objectionable?
@problem49 I think Gene lives in the NYC area today, and I don't know his citizenship (Canadian, American, or dual). I don't know what he considers himself or how often (if ever) he visits Ottawa. He visits Rochester every two or three years. I don't find anything objectionable and I don't know how you came to presume that I did. I was indulging in a little rock n roll trivia, that's all.
@57highland I was prepared to get into a huge fight about this trivial issue, but you're a good sort and I wish you well. Merry Christmas and all the best to you and yours.
You would think that any young band attempting to cover such a highly-regarded R&B song like "Midnight Hour" would embarrass themselves. But the Rascals did a very credible job. I wish this would be played once in a while on the oldies stations.
In my humble opinion, this is absolutely the best version. Thanks so much for posting.

You don't hear this version often. It stands up to the original - maybe even surpasses it.

@problem49 Hey, problem! You're still around! We met (and fought) a long time ago on "Elenore" by The Turtles. Great to see you again. (No kidding).

@57highland Thanks for the vid. I'd never heard of these weirdos before.

@problem49 No, no. The girls are very nice. The SONG is weird, but the girls are very nice girls.
BTW, Canada probably claims Gene Cornish (of the Rascals), as he was born in Ottawa, but he grew up in my hometown, Rochester, NY.
