Early Death demos, Death being the band that invented Death Metal, had Satanic lyrics. Possessed considered by some to even pre-date Death also had Satanic lyrics. So, in reality, while Satanism is primarily a Black Metal thing, it isn't un-common within Death Metal at all.

@timarmstrong666 Nope, it's 100% Death Metal. The lyrics have nothing to do with the genre, it's all about the music. If a pop band was singing about "overthrowing churches" it would still be pop, not blackened pop or anything. Likewise, Morbid Angel could sing about flowers and butterflies, and they would still be Death Metal if the music was the same. There are millions of different subject matters that bands write lyrics about, but in the end, all that matters is what their music sounds like.
