  • Cigarette snow cone cupcake...... MY FAVE!

  • Oh my God, when they all are singing the Happy Birthday is sooooo sad!! I feel soo bad.

  • lol that agnostic got pwned!!

  • @hobopotato Yeah, stupid Agnostic not believing in extreme supserstitious claims without any concrete proof or evidence to back it up with! Haha, what a fool! He sure got what he deserved there! Right on spot!

  • Antonio Nooooooooo!!! Why? He was a good leader RIP ='(

  • my god

  • but the snow will keep em warm!

  • @chubbsmcgee2413 bullshit! go out in the snow one night and see how warm it gets. Snow is icy cold. The only way snow could get you warm is if you built an igloo to trap head inside a bubble. In order to build an igloo takes an enormous amount of energy, which these guys had no energy because of lack of food and sleep and being in the constant cold.

  • goddamn it.. antonio died.. :(

  • @stubblerr he did?

  • @oscarhood10 yeah.. after the avalanche.. the guy that was dead with his eyes and mouth open full of snow..

    thats antonio..

  • Somehow at some point the crazy mechanic's guy and the guy who smokes all the time were letf out of the story. But I recall that the guy who smokes all the time was seen at the end he was among the ones who survived. Strange.

  • @LilasRose1973 the mechanic died in the avalanche. As per nandos book. He was the first choice for the dinner probaBLY

  • @ELconchesumare And you can see him getting pulled out in the next clip, added to the pile of avalanche casualties,.

  • @LilasRose1973 Yeah, the guy who smokes a lot is Bobby Françoise. I think he was left out is because he said he didn't care too much about his future. He think he was going to die, he dind'nt even care the frosbite of his feet. You can understand a lot of the real history seeing the documentary Viven: El Accidente de los Andes 1972, right here on Youtube. It's really overwhelming.

  • 4:03 "Roberto, today is Rafael's birthday." "So?" "We got to celebrate." *happy birthday song* 5:03 "Roberto, your not gonna' believe this." "What?" "Today is my birthday!" *happy birthday song again* Later ( 7:13) "Good morning,my friends! You now what today is?" "No,what?" "Today is my father birthday!"
  • The Avalanche did some good..if it wasnt for that they'd prolly all be dead all the extra snow covering them probably kept more warm

  • "Today is my birthday" ROFL

  • Todays my birthday too! lol j/k

  • ''I'm worried about Eduardo. He's losing his spirit''...

aww, that's sweet. ....more people should worry about their friends' spirits. It's important.

I had more spirit once upon a time.

  • oh she didn't remember that it was my bday and then i said to my dad its my bday he said here has a ramin noodle

  • his birthday would have been a stepup to what i had last year no one remember mine and i had to bye a cup cake and put a match in there and said happy bday to me then it fell and my mum also cursedme so i hope somebody wishes me a happy birthday this year its on august 14

  • @tameshas awww :)

  • @MsSMSgirl ty

  • @tameshas I'm sure he would of taken your birthday any day of the week. I mean he had best friends die on his birthday. So his birthday was no way near a stepup to yours.

  • Haha Nice Cake

  • "I'm not sayin' no rosary."

    "Another avalanche!"

    "Hail Mary full of grace..."

    lol

  • @NaturalEnquirer There's nothing to laugh about, kid !

  • "your not going to belive this its my birthday to"

  • "Please dont take her from me NOW"

i pride myself on not crying for any moives but the first time i saw this and heard the pure heartbreak in his voice i swear i wailed almost as badly as him. i mean COME ON. There just HAD to be a avalance

  • Here's a cigarette stuck in some ice and a bit of human meat to go with it. Happy Birthday.

  • i love how they put a cigg on the "cake" lmfao cracked me up ahahah

  • 2:18 DAMN! Now why did that nice woman have to do die??? :'(

  • At part 8/13 When they didn't eat the meat on the TV it said "Stop being a weenie"

  • wowowowow LOL XD that birthday sucked!

  • a snowball and a cigarette in it? nice!!! hahaha

  • crash ass or avalance ass, my next restaurant?

  • all that snow on top of them is like trying to get 500 pounds off your body

  • If it wasn't tragic enough!

  • there are various methods and skills they could have used to help the situation.they should have build a wall of snow around the plane and roof and had an entry point through a window at the front of the plane, this help to keep body heat up.so sad you can read about it all on wikipedia

  • @TerryMMA85

i badly damaged my leg and this movie inspires me to fight on. my whole left leg is bolted and screwed together from a very bad fall. so i use this movie to help motivate me to get better. my left leg is useless so i use my two arms and one good leg,

  • @pluto4847 im really sorry to hear about your leg, must be hard to get used to the things that are now harder to do.its a very good film this im glad it helps you some way.

  • @pluto4847 You will return!!

  • @pluto4847 I feel you bro, I had a motorcycle accident about 3 months ago and my left foot got injured very seriously. I too have screws and pins and these has been the most difficult challenge I've encountered. However, we'll get out of this, we'll make it through, just remember that the worst is already behind you... It's a long way for recovery, BELIEVE ME, I KNOW, but every day that passes means we're one day closer to being ok again. Good luck and god bless you.

  • @SebasMarinS

Well thank you. I am now walking with a cane now, and my physical therapy is doing great. Soon I should be walking with no assisted devices. But you are right, it is difficult and long reoovery process.

I hope you are doing well with your leg. Physical therapy is a must. So I wish you all the best.

  • @pluto4847 Thank you for putting that up about physio therapy. I suffer from an illness (known as ADEM) that causes severe weakness in my dominant right side. It makes the whole of that side completely useless, causing me to hardly walk without assistance or a walking stick - however I keep trying!

Always remember to keep hope alive with you, for without hope every injury becomes twice as painful.

    Take care. :)

  • Nobody ever would deserve this...

  • My whole class cried when he pulled Liliana out. :(

  • snow cup cakes FTW!

  • Snow cakes! Woohoo!

  • well this movie was based on true people who actually survived for more than 2 months on a mountain with barely any food to eat not legitimately good climbing gear and sanity to stay alive!

  • God, this movie has me as a mess! I am balling my eyes out! I didn't want Antonio and to woman to go :```(

  • @pamperedgurl

    It's only a movie.

  • @KramNodd its based on a true story....this isnt fiction sweetie

  • @pamperedgurl

It's still only a movie, darling.

  • @KramNodd don't act like you don't care about what happened right there... everything you saw in this movie really happened, therefore.. it's way more tragic than fiction movies...

and I don't say I cried by watching this.. went to emotional... but I really think it's sad what happened.. and.. because it isn't fiction... it made me think about life.. with or without watching this movie...

  • @KramNodd umm..ok.

  • @pamperedgurl

Shut up before I kick your head off and kick it round a parking lot.

  • more to eat

  • @skumrock lmao ikr.

  • besides the people dying the avalanche kind of would have helped it would have been much warmer in the plane if they could get the snow out of it

  • that zippo has lasted for a long time, they obviously used zippo lighter fuel as recommended by all good tobacconists!

  • That snowball with a ciggerette as a candle made me LOL..I dunno why..maybe i'm just immature haha

  • ... you're not gonna believe this. Today is my birthday too. LOL

  • @YourFatClownAss lol, mine is in a few days as well

  • 4:24 hahaha

  • if this wasn't a well-known true story, i'd be commenting on the improbability of it all!

  • @strangergoat I agree with you. The acting is mediocre at best, but it's still a compelling story. And also it's based on fact... I would have done the same thing to survive.....

  • Hey look, it's Fabrizio.

  • @LightStijn -

Fab is more good looking XD

    The Strokes FTW!!!

  • @LightStijn

omg I thought I was the only one who noticed!

  • Very frustrating about the woman.Gutsy gal probably would have survived. She would have been the only woman survivor.

  • Guess they didnt know CPR.

  • Fuck that avalanche but look on the bright side fresh meat.

  • fucker probably wished for a gawddamn pizza!LOL i'll pay if you go, brother... XD

  • God must be a sadist.

  • i wonder if the agnostic guy survived

  • @TheLololopop yes he did, at least up to now.Cant blame him for not wanting to pray.

  • 4:30 im doing that on my friends birthday

  • Worst birthday ever!

  • @CrazyJustin2006 Yeah man, they didn't have a cake!

  • or nandos chicken

  • the pizza hut helicopter should fly in half way through the movie with pizzas only $10 a PIZZA what a bargin no freebees here

  • God was really good to them... ......with that avalanche to heap misery on misery

    NO god

  • Comment removed

  • @robbieirish

Why does watching a movie about a plane crash mean I'm questioning myself?

  • lol.. sadist humor is awesome

  • the birthday part kills meh LOL

  • @maya418 knife or pistol? :P

  • @chemicalgirl500 dude it was 1972 lol not 1922

  • Kudos to the one's that survived this. They could have lived through a winter on Hoth!

  • @chemicalgirl500 actually they are latin names. just like italian names.....

  • it's your birthday? ok well, here's a cigarette & a snowball.

  • how would they appreciate mcdonalds right now!

  • Almost every name in this movie ends with "O".......Roberto, Nando, Antonio, Gustavo, Eduardo, Adolfo, Alvero, Alfredo.... What the Fuck....O

  • sad movie but true

  • I read the book. The Avalanche was one thing, but they also couldn't burry their friends who died in it, plus they also had to starve because they couldn't reach the burried corpses. Note: in 6:47 we can see a pilot's corpse, still in his place.... they couldn't move him either.

  • It's really upsetting how Liliana went. She gave so much hope to the boys.

  • lol god is everywhere. where was he when he let people die in a place crash, stupid religious beliefs

  • WHY ANTONIO?! HE HAD THE BEST HAIR!!!

  • @wilproz Haahahaha Nive comment

  • To everybody making stupid comments about the guys praying: there are no atheists on a sinking ship. In the face of life threatening danger you will try anything.

  • @TheVoidist Why would you say that? There are no atheists on a sinking ship? You'd have to have been in every goddamn sinking ship to know that, or anywhere where tragedy strikes. It's a saying but it cant be applied to everyone, because you just DONT KNOW IF ITS TRUE. Just because it was true for someone else it does NOT mean it will be for everyone else. That saying is an assumption, and it's pretty lame to use such an incorrect thing to try to prove a nonexistant point.

  • @gartygat It's true

  • @TheVoidist I can assure you at LEAST 1 atheist died an atheist under any circumstances. I can guarantee you at LEAST 1, but im sure there's been millions.

Come on, a world with almost 7b people CURRENTLY alive now, and hundreds of billions other people that died.. yet you claim NO atheist died an atheist when he knew he was about to die? Lol..

  • @gartygat Ofcourse. We all know in our hearts that Jesus is the way. Even you. Repent before it's too late!

  • @TheVoidist -sigh- And here I was.. overestimating your intelligence.. I wont even bother getting into it, its so pointless. One thing though, I dont go around forcing my lack of beliefs on others, so it would be nice if you did the same to me. You really should expand your mind a little. Ofc there's millions of atheists that DIED atheists.. no matter what you say. But oh well..

  • @gartygat no they all died converts, there are no atheists on a sinking ship you know

  • @TheVoidist Alright, I get it, your brains are too small to think outside your litle box of "self protection". I wont get into it any further, your habit of repeating the same sentence over and over again has become.. tiresome. BTW i gave you a thumbs up by accident while trying to reply.. if you see a + anywhere, dont worry, its not anyone agreeing with your repetitive bs.

  • @gartygat Just for your info: I was trolling you ;) I'm not religious at all. What I meant by "There are no atheists on a sinking ship" is that in times of need a lot of people suddenly start praying. Like in this movie for instance. Sorry if I tilted you ;)

  • @TheVoidist Well that's nice. I got worked up over a non-religious person pretending to be religious and repetiting the same annoying, false sentence over and over again. Cheers for that..

On the other hand, at least you aren't the obsessive person you pretended to be.

And yes, it IS true that a lot of people who are atheists start praying.. but usually it's desperation. Something to "hold" onto. I can assure you a lot of those people who did that and survived, continued being Atheists.

  • @gartygat You're welcome ;)

  • Why are there so many jokes in this movie?? Not that I mind but it's weird

  • @jtttops because people is stupid and probably have never read the book or feel close to this tragedy...it's ignorance basically

  • @jtttops because they are trying to forget about the situation they are in right now.

  • i like how that guy starts praying so fervently when he thinks theres gonna be another avalanche. hehe

  • "I think God is taking care of us"

    *AVALANCHE*

  • carlito is wise. because that which may be known of god is manifest in them; for god hath shewed it unto them. romans 1:19

  • fuck that i cant breathe just watching this!

  • I feel like these people are really stupid. Why not use some of the seat covers and rods to manufacture tents and use the cash and the guitar to accommodate an additional several day's hike? Who would want to die in a plane full of people as opposed to on the mountain itself? I would have well rather made a run for civilization, or the tail. Also, didn't they give an ounce of thought into trying to convert the battery from the radio to power the transmitter? "Based on true stupidity."

  • @Foaman shut the fuck up, the radio didnt work anyway, and they wer 18/19 kids not wise adults

  • @Foaman the were only 19...and..they were just players of rugby...stupid

  • shouldn't get frostbite?

  • They were lucky in one way with that avalanche. It hit the plane end on if it has hit them side on they would probably have been swept away.

  • now theu have more food. everything happens for a reason.

  • More to eat? The others have been buried to the snow...

  • i dont mean to be mean but would they have not tried cpr?

  • @natbite6 I believe they did try CPR, actually. The film doesn't show *many* aspects of what really happened. But some really took the beating & it must have been pointless for those who had obviously suffocated.

  • @natbite6 not many people knew it back then, and even fewer knew it south america. Hell even today there are places down there that still haven't even heard of it

  • @bailong329 These people were from upper-class families. They were not backward or stupid! And please tell me where in South America people haven't heard about CPR, except perhaps primitive tribes in the Amazon??? People in South America are not as backward as you seem to think!!

  • @plutogirllovekj did I say that directly I said " not many people" that doesn't automatically mean all didn't it means not many did. Also in a plane crash it only works with people with certain injuries. It doesn't work for many because you have crushed lungs, cracked ribs and even shattered rib cages. I have trained in Search and Rescue so thats how I know that.

  • @plutogirllovekj They were also living in the early 1970s, and regardless of their class or country of origin were unlikely to have known how to perform it, since it had only just become accepted for the public to learn it in the '60s.

  • @natbite6 That would have required many of them to know it, and it was only just gaining in acceptance for the public to know it back then. The only ones who probably would have known it would have been Zerbino and Canessa, and two people for eight victims is pushing it. Not to mention that CPR is more of a stop-gap to keep someone alive until they can get to a hospital.

  • @natbite6

I also dont mean to be mean...what if they died of skull fractures ? didnt you think of that??

  • @natbite6

    In the novel they did.

  • @natbite6 liked the comment, but still keep in mind that CPR was not thought to the public until the 1970s, the incident happened in '72 ... now in 2011 not many people actually know it. statistically speaking; i personally doubt they knew it. ;(

  • Is the birthday part supposed to imply that they both have the same birthday, or that they were there for a prolonged period?

  • @rams8003 well he said it was his birthday

  • under snow the temperature is 0 degrees about 1 foot is all it takes , plus if there are 8 - 10 of you and you seal the room somehow you can elevate the temperature to about 10 - 12 degrees thus by moving your body around you man survive however you still need to eat

    Igloos

  • Man, can these people catch a break?

Yeah, the guy started praying after expressing throughout the movie that he was an agnostic... sort of like the survivors resorting to cannibalism... you don't know what you'll do until you realize you have nothing but the will and hope to live.

  • @VASpecial036 Its not canabalism its called something else i forget the name. Canabalism is when you kill something for their meet usally alive.

  • @dmxdex yeah in History chanel nando called it something else I forgot the word xD

  • @olg06

    Anthropophagy.

  • @olg06 Anthropophagy (Greek: ἄνθρωπος, anthropos, "human being" + φαγειν, phagein, "to eat") is the eating of human flesh. It may refer to:

  • @olg06 Anthropophagy is the eating of human flesh. It may refer to:

  • @olg06 Anthropophagy is the eating of human flesh

  • @VASpecial036 Well, in all fairness, an agnostic is not necessarily an atheist. He believed in something but either he wasn't sure what that something was or he chose not to subscribe to the notion of a particular god. He questioned like everyone does and at that moment, he chose to pray.

  • LMAO...he started praying real quick!

  • and just when you thought things couldn't get any worse...

  • viannafin the survivors said the worst part, the very worst part of the entire experience wasn't eating there friends, the plane crash or any of that, they said it was the avalanch, dont forget they were in there for 3 days, they slept with dead bodies in a little slit of space and shit and pissed themselves in there, and in reality they had no lights when they were digging, there was no oxygen until they poked a pole through the snow to let air in

  • hockeycaker, I also later watched the documentary where the survivors spoke themselves and the story was a lot more chilling and the scenes in the movie are nothing compared to the reality of what happened. It must've been pure hell experiencing the avalanche and I didn't say they saw it as a good thing at all.

  • Ooops, I meant 45'000. Um yeh I'm that bored.

  • Yeh I'm the 50'000 viewer.

  • viannafin, you think is good to have all the plane with snow and dead people, if you think so you are crazy

  • If you think about it the avalanche actually kind of helped them - although there were casualties - all the snow on top of the wreck keeps the warmth inside better. Eskimos took advantage of the snow by building igloos and some dog breeds dig a hole in the snow to sleep in.

  • Great point!!

  • that's real mature

  • you idiot.. i hope this happens to you. Then someone might say Ima eat that guys penis:) mmm thats tasty! Your nasty.. You didnt go thru the hell they did and your saying this..

  • LOL 8:50 I actually said mmmmm outloud.

  • There are other issues though - they could have gone east rather than west, going down the valley. And from what I've seen on google earth it would have brought the out more easily, and quickly, into Argentina. If I was lost the first thing I would do would be to go downhill following a water course. You're far more likely to find someone, or something to eat..

  • water always leads somewhere..your smart.

  • a pitty they didnt check google earth first thing after the crash ^^

  • Well... they did have a map.... How good maps of that area were at that time... but it should have been topographical....

  • where they thought they were on the map was wrong anyway. they thought they were in chile they were actualy just inside argentina. they had been flying into a head wind & had not passed curico

  • Besides cadaver jerky.

  • It was the pilots fault really. He said they passed Curico, a town on the Chilean side of the Andes. He made a mistake and turned the plane north while still in the middle of mountains. They believed his mistake and thought if they went East, they would have to walk a hundred miles to get out. They thought there was green valleys over the mountain to the west. How wrong they were.

  • They did pass Curico, didn't they? Regardless, not knowing where to go on a mountain especially with no winter gear would have been suicidal for them. They crashed in a pretty shitty spot to with 10 miles walking distance to just get off the mountain (not counting how far they'd have to walk to civilization to even find a road).

  • I feel awful for them. why did they call off the search so quickly?. So why did they crash? was it so cloudy they couldn't see well? i love this movie but im filled with questions.

  • You should read the book this movie is based on - same title "Alive" it is by Piers Paul Read. It was published just a year after they were rescued and Read worked closely with all the survivors, their families, the families of the dead, explained all the details of why the crash happened, the search, etc. Also Nando Parrado wrote his own account a couple of years ago called Miracle in the Andes. Also a very good book that addresses all the detail the movie left out

  • Yeah me too. those guys who were searching for them must have been laz
