  • NASA should start looking into this :P

  • I love your use of your tools. I understood your story as you presented it before reading the description. I took from it the fact that we all want to be seen in our best light. We present our best face to the public. But what we do when we thing no one is looking can be very different. Many people believe God is watching, but still they do whatever. Take the good and the bad, we are human, let us be dammed for what we are. But look how far we have come.

  • a beautiful piece of work. Makes me want to get Blender and have a peek under the hood:)

  • the video is so awesome ,, but dude !! you creepd me out with that women with no face ,, all of them with no face . its a horror movie .

  • Why does he move his hands even after he's done talking

  • This is awesome short film.

  • pretty good... just the buffered shadows kinda distract me

  • This is so liberal. 1) Why was the guy in jail? He must have done something horrible to get a 23 year sentence. 2)Global warming is proved non-existent and that temperature actually leads CO2. No one can debate that anymore, though because they will be picked apart by political buzzards! 3) Where is the science behind Global Warming? 4) Why are you trying to make me feel bad about everything that exists? 5) A nation cannot stand against itself and everything it does.

  • @KiwiBlaster516 Dude, I'm trying to make you THINK about everything you DO, and if that makes you feel bad, there's a reason for that. Also, kudos on getting your PhD in meteorology / climate science, I assume that's why you are taking the time to try to educate the rest of us on the topic.

  • @alexkemmler I think quite a bit, yet I do not feel a speck remorse for any of it seeing that nothing I do makes such a feeling necessary. Am I against giving him money? No, but let's suppose that I have no money on hand or I am saving it for a worthier decision. I see someone who is hypocritical, seeing that I doubt you have a PhD in climatology, or even in politics. Also, assuming your video is true, where are your solutions to your purposed problems? Thinking has saved no one.

  • @KiwiBlaster516 Everyone has a message. They don't have to come with answers. Sometimes asking the right question is what makes someone else come up with a solution.

  • cool

  • you do realize that all of the "climate change" and "global warming" were not based on science and they had no grounding in fact or scientific research right?

  • Oh wow, really? Man, how could I have been so dumb! Where did you get your Phd in meteorology? Thanks for enlightening me, O great expert. I'll be sure to base my opinions on youtube comments from now on.

  • lol he got BURNED!

  • @Aslancsc Only if you are a neo conservative with fewer than 6 brain cells.

  • damn man that was good is all of that blender if it is damn

  • Yeah it was all blender except for a little post in Photoshop.

  • very very very nice man ;)

  • how did you focus the camera in on the foreground, and blur out the background, for example at 0:39?

  • I think he used depth of field.

  • correct, used the DOF node in blender

  • Man how long did this take to render?

  • I used a render farm so it took only hours instead of days or weeks

  • Dude, what's "render farm" and how does it shortens the render-time of your work? Thanks man.... :)

  • google it ;)

A render farm is basically a place that has a ton of computers set up to render your animation all at once. You send it to them and they can render 100 frames at once instead of 1, makes things go a lot faster...

  • All that was done with blender?

    blender looks really promising.

how long did it take you to learn blender? And how long did this animation take?

  • Doing the animation took a few months,

everything was done in blender. Blender is a free program and I highly recommend it.

I had been using it for a long time, it probably took me about 2 months to become proficient with it... probably no longer than any other package if you follow some tuts or a book.

  • would you recomend makehuman for human modeling? or should i stick with blender?

also i see that you used photshop for post-processing, would Gimp be the next best, (free program) (if you know anything about Gimp) I just don't want to get a program, learn all about it, and come to a dead end when i cant do what i think the program does.

  • makehuman is good if you don't want to spend the time learning how to properly model a human (big task) - it's a good tool comparable to Poser. OTOH if you want to be a really good modeler, learn how to model a human... but I warned you!

Gimp is generally accepted as the free photoshop alternative. Many Blender users use it, particularly on Linux. I know there are others, but Gimp is more fully developed, to my knowledge.

  • dude to do this would take maybye 1 year of practice

  • A well-done, somewhat pensive, abstract, atmospheric, slowly methodical piece with a refreshing note in contrast to all those saturated-color, goofball-character animations.

  • Question I just made a 14 second animation and rendered it and it took like over 13 hours... which sucks you know... It probably took long because of the animation had a lot of reflections and shadows but other than that it was simple... Is there any way of speeding this process up or is not practicle making any animations over 30 seconds long on my windows Xp computer.... I really hope that there is a faster way...

  • did you have raytracing set to on in the render panel - for me that increases render time by about x1000

  • There are many ways to speed up your render. Try lowering OSA, try lowering resolution, try turning off raytracing (use buffer shadows, not "ray",) don't use AO, don't use reflections, don't use refraction, use multiple cores etc. .. hope that helps.

  • It helps if you use Z-transparencies over raytraced, because raytraced takes longer to render, and because of what it does to your CPU, you should use it sparingly and go with the Z-transparency. Save raytracing for things where you need critically accurate materials that refracts light. Also Z-transparency has no limit to its depth value, unlike raytracing. Hope I helped you at least a little bit here.

  • Perfection on my screen

  • AMAZING

  • Bravo on this short animation. For a second, I thought that telescope belong to NASA.

  • im still a lil new to blender, i kno how to use it and make some decent stillframe renders, but havent gotten into animation yet.. im just curious, does it really take hours and hours to render an animation clip?? like i said, i dont know anything about animating YET, just the basics of modeling. ive seen little 2 minute clips and they said it took 10 hours to render.. is this right??

  • i just rendered a 6 sec clip and it took me like 10 mins

never tried anything larger, im worse than you, just tried animatng text

  • If you rendered my animation on your computer it would probably take something like 5-15 DAYS or more, just for reference. (depending on your PC)... depending on the complexity of your scene it can be much faster, or much slower.

  • @KemmlerKemmler Yea hes right. Depending on how many polygons you used for your film, the surface textures you used, and the amount of animation you have will greatly effect the amount of time it takes to render. So having a fast processor is good. Im at a university now and I have the advantage of using more than one computer to render frames which drastically cuts down the the render time. If you have two computers great, but if not thats ok. Just make sure your computer is in top shape.

  • @LunatikTokyo Oh and I would advise NOT using a laptop to render(just for future reference and to keep in mind)just because that a laptop wasnt made to take on such a big job like render. You need a PC to do the big job of rendering so you dont risk crashing your laptop.

  • @21beal21 What is comes down to is each frame takes time to render. the more complex the frame the more time. When you do animation you looking at 24 to 30 frames per second. So if you have a simple scene that takes 10 mins to render one frame and the scene is 1 min long at 24 fps. 60 sec x 24= 1440 frames. 1440 x 10= 14,400 mins/60= 240 hours. 240/24= 10 days. For a fairly simple scene and 1 computer. That is why studios use render farms with a lot of machines. Blender has farm stuff too

  • great animation! it's very good.. xD

  • LOL hi earth... OMG U SUCK *flies off*

  • good job!

  • cool, I just started using blender, can you give me some tips, I'm really confused. Your video's soo great, it must have taken alot of time.

  • Very nice! I am just starting to learn how to use Blender, and now I have something to look up to. Good job.

  • This is great, almost in a metaphorical sense you show people's reactions to different situations (atleast the usual ones) you do need to work on your actual animation, the bum on the first one was very stiff I loved the lady getting a suntan while they were raising awareness to the community though. Like I said great stuff.

  • Although I liked it, and the animation was fairly good, the rendering impressive. Why did it seem like you took a bunch of random clips, blurred the heck out of them and composited it into one animation with an intentionally (though not really) confusing description. The DoF was way off for most of the train station, and the sheep was never actually in focus.

I liked it anyway, but it seemed chopped together and somewhat ill planned.

  • There is a theme that ties the clips together, but it's concept and not story-driven. The DOF you're probably right about, the sheep (actually a goat) was intentionally out of focus beacuse I could not get the fur sim to work before my deadline. This was before 2.46 came out.

The description wasn't intentionally confusing - I didn't mean for it to be anyway. Oh well, glad you at least liked some parts. Thanks for the crits!

  • The description was somewhat humorous to me, actually. Reminded me of some big-time art critics who visit a museum and talk about an "increasingly mechanistic society" etc... with unnecessarily long words that really could be elaborated if they wanted to.

I dunno, made me laugh, good job anyway.

  • very excellent and very well put into perspective

  • how lond did it take u 2 render?

  • I used a render farm, so hard to say. Respower is a good service for blender users.

  • Render farm?

    Respower?

    explanation plz

  • You should google to get a good idea, but:

render farm: a bunch of computers that render your animation at the same time

respower: a render farm that you can buy time on, compatible with blender, pretty cheap

  • oh... so u pay to get computers somewhere to render your work a lot faster... buy time on? like pay monthly?

  • You buy a subscription for one month on respower, in that time you can submit as many render jobs as you want. But basically, yeah, you pay someone to render your work faster.

  • cool thnks 4 the info

  • and is it worth it...

    example plz

  • it's worth it if you have a deadline. Cost me something like $50 or so. Ask yourself 2 questions - is your work worth it, and do you need it that soon?

  • I think blende is cool if you have no money, but Maya beats it by far...

  • True, but I like to argue that the artist matters much more than the tools. Vermeer would have been a great artist with crayola markers. For most people the limiting factor is their skill and talent, not the software.

  • you've done such an incredible job,

I just had to comment on it. normally

I browse through videos not logged in,

but this was absolutely amazing. such

    talent shouldn't go unappreciated.

very well done, and I hope you have more

success in the wonderful world of animation!

  • felt the same way dude,

    felt the same way...

  • Thanks, appreciate your comment. Animation is rewarding but extremely time-consuming and pretty difficult! Honestly I probably won't have enough time to animate again unless I am unemployed...

  • Wow! Cool!

  • so so good

  • Great movie!

  • how much time did this need to render?

  • Great video! I can't help but quip: I hope the advanced civilization doesn't learn that you should pass on the right and the left lane is the slow lane. =)

  • re-quip: maybe the highway was in the UK? ;)

  • Really in Blender ?

  • Yep, all in blender...

  • when i say this i trully mean it this is incredable!

  • if you seek animating as a profession your going to make a good living

  • Nice job

  • incredible magnificent thats the greatest animation from blender ever 1000/5 awesome i was left speechless the camera angles the effects the sound effects it was all good. nice man.

  • U-R-CRAZY!

  • brill..

    are you proffessional?

  • no, I wish, this was just a school project.

  • wow, you should look into it as a job option. youre brilliant!

  • this is a piece of art. i like alot of the camera angles you used, kinda like matrix style angles.

the star fields look simular in approach to how greg martin does them. if you havent heard of greg martin, u should check out his art (google him), he used to do tutorials but they're bit hard to find nowadays.

could do with a bit more texture, but the non-texturing of some things gives it a certain style i guess.

    awesome work though :D

  • Good catch - I made my starfield from greg's tutorial. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to do that sort of thing.

  • Very nice =O

  • awesome work man, for a non-professional, its very good :) keep the good work !

  • Maybe I could improve my output, but I believe that an artist's skills are independent of the tools. On the other hand it wouldn't improve my bank balance...

  • nice

    go on

  • That was really good!

  • whats the music to go with this? It went PERFECTLY with the movie man.

  • Ah, it is my own composition/production, therefore it should be perfect as it was composed with that purpose in mind ;)

  • ah it was my own composition, made especially for the animation... no surprise then. ;)

  • That was really cool just need alittle more time spent on 3d head modeling i think but wow that was really cool wish i could get this down i tried making a snow man and lol i freaked out because the nose looked so bad i hate triangles.

  • holy sh... man that probably took a long time. i just downloaded blender 2 days ago. and i need more practice. but i can do pretty good in animating coz i use 2 have pivot

  • This is allmost a Cinema quality movie!!! 5/5

  • the shot of the interstate traffic was amazing. Loved the darkly cartoonish aspect of it. I'm doing a low budget documentary, and i'm pretty computer savvy, does blender take a long time to learn?

  • Blender can take a long time to learn, it has an unusual interface, and if you can't accustom yourself to it you'll have a hard time. My advice is learn the keyboard shortcuts first and you'll be able to progress quickly.

  • I've only just started with it- however, someone quite good at it is taking some time to tutor me. It's amazing what it can do once the interface is figured out.

  • ill have to say really nice man :p

  • don't worry about the planet moving. Awesome Job.

  • then, Isn't Makehuman a Python Script?

  • it used to be, it is now a standalone program, though.

  • great work wow

  • Amazing animation!

  • k, that was awesome. Except for one tiny little thing...Earth don't move that fast. Unless this was over a period of time. But awesome job. How long did that take to make. Did you use a Mac or PC?

  • This took about 3 months to make, I used a PC. You're right about earth not moving that fast, it was a mistake on my part.

  • Is it Makehuman???

  • yep, I used MH for the models. Watch the credits, I used a lot of other resources from talented people to complete this animation.

  • One question: how did you use the Python scripts? How can I use it? Please respond

  • I didn't use many scripts except for the edge -> curve script. other than that I can't remember any in particular that I used.

  • is there any Koyaanisqatsi refenrences?

    very nice edition

  • I described this animation as 2001 meets Koyaanisqatsi to my classmates, good call on this comment.

  • hehe the green and red birds eye view shots kinda remind me of the Predator movies

very nicely done, i really like this

  • nice but too long

  • How'd you do the earth?

  • basically some texture maps thanks to NASA, and then another sphere with glow. to do the lights I mixed that texture in inverse proportion to the light on the surface.

  • That was just... AMAZING!! Great work!

  • I would say study photographic composition and basic cinematography... but my real advice is IT'S TOO MUCH WORK!

  • Can you give me some common sense knowledge on how to animate creations. PLEASE PLEASE!!!!! IM BEGGING!!

  • wow amazing animation! but the story was a boaring, sry

  • I assume since you cannot spelling boring and you say sry that you do not appreciate the time that he put into this animation.

  • wow great job the whole time i was watching this though i was thinking wow all these scenes must have taken many hours to render

  • wow ur good. that AK-47 looked awsome.

  • wow! great job, simply amazing.how long have you been working with blender??

  • Thanks, I've been using blender since it was owned by NaN, so... quite a while.

  • nope, it was done in windows, unfortunately FL studio doesn't exist for linux. However you could have done all of the graphics in linux. Most of the sound, though, probably would require windows.

  • so excepting the music, this whole thing was done on linux? if so, i am definately NEVER gonna need any machine other than a linux box (exepting maybe a mac if its easier on it, and garageband). I have a friend that thinks his new copy of adobe after effects and premier pro and all that is so cool, i bet linux could take that bundle of windows heap on right now with blender! awesome job! (and great storyline!)

  • great models and effects, my only problem with this video is the kind of robotic movement of the characters and the poor lipsyncing.

  • Outstanding!

  • Awesome blender skills there, nice vid
