@JuliusAzzari, Bossa Nova was created in Brazil without ANY jazz influence. Some bossa nova authors once in a while incorporate some Brazilian jazz (whose style is much more melodic than American jazz) to make it sound better. Your statement that "most modern music has influences from north american genres" is truly ARROGANT! Step down, learn and RESPECT the differences from music of other countries like Brazil, which by the way is way MORE musical than the USA!
Jazz is a generic term for music connected by certain cord progressions and style. Jazz is not from anywhere, but from everywhere including Brasil. Got It!!
funny...I use to Play Bossa nova rhythm's in Jazz band in Highschool...Never knew where it originated..interesting that it comes from Brazil....Im liking this though...very relaxing.....really nice...kinda reminds me of Sade's "smooth operator"

Whatever you call this music, I LOVE IT! Music unites, it doesn't divide, so come together people and let's just enjoy it!

Now, typical Brazilian Jazz usually adds a few Samba and/or Bossa Nova rhythms to spice the music:

Some Bossa Nova examples so that you guys can see that pure Bossa Nova has NO jazz on it. Brazilian jazz was added later on in some musics only!

@JuliusAzzari That doesnt mean you have to call it Jazz. Just because it has some level of Jazz influence in it.
