  • i got a beano boost and can't play it without radio signals coming through my speakers. Does this one do that?

  • I cloned this pedal for 10 dollar worth of parts, and I am not feeling any remorse, since Zvex stole this circuit idea from Craig Anderton too so. Anybody who wants to pay 240bucks for 5 resistors and 2 capacitors from a 60's console?

    Be my guest.

  • can anyone expand on what Andy said at the beginning, about sending it the front AND the effects loop?? Can you actually plug this in going through front, and the back without killing you or your amp?? Anyone tried it?? is it gooooooooooooooooood??

  • i just got a super hard one;)

  • i have super hard on. i use it all day and night...

  • I too have deluxe verb-reissue. Will this pedal still work properly if i still have three mod boxes working in concert with it?

  • do you think this pedal would be good to make a single coil match a humbuckers output on a clean channel is it a good clean boost?

  • This pedal is so nice nice. Definitely the best pedal ever to blow up your amp! (our your band-mates' as in my case, hehe)

  • It crackles because it has DC voltage across the volume pot. Just like the original rangemaster did..

  • what does this pedal do? sorry to be abit annoying to you but.. i have no idea what booster pedals do =S cud someone tell me? is it lyk an overdrive?

  • always love zvex pedals, it looks good as the sound is, is a joy to play with

  • So can this be used for solos? I get my main distortion tone from one pedal, I wanna push the SHO for a solo, will it get me more volume and a bit more gain? Or just tons of gain? (I don't have an fx loop)

  • sounds great but the name is enough to prevent me from buying it

  • Lol, no offence...paying 150 pounds for one BS170 mosfet, a couple or resistors, and some caps, is just insane

  • i wanna run my Super Hard On into a Big Muff!

  • @cjdavda nicely done.

  • i think this is a cool pedal and all, but it seems like it does the exact same thing as the mxr micro amp, which is almost a third of the price...

  • @TacooGrill this pedal has a lot more gain available. The micro amp is meant more for compensating for signal loss or matching outputs between guitars. This pedal is pretty much meant to just beat the hell out of the front end of your amp.

  • I heard AiC in there somewhere!

  • i dont particularly like the pedal in this demo but the guy from the shins used this heaps for alot of his overdriven sounds and i love his sound? cluster fuck!

  • Congrats and thanks it´s a great review and also it´s great to answer questions... I understand it´s a hard work! thumbs up

  • I have a super hard on with andy's name on it!

  • @sleepingundrtree - Different Andy...that's the Andy that works for ZVex.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Now you're just making things up, are you saying there are two different people named Andy? Yeah, and the moonlanding wasn't filmed by kubrick!

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Because you don't just pay for what the pedal does, you are also paying for (I'm assuming) quality workmanship, reliable hardware, and that paint job. When you aren't paying 5 year old Asians 4 cents an hour to do all of that, the price goes up.

  • @myguitardidyermom12 @myguitardidyermom12 I would like to know where can you find an Asian to do 4 cents an hour job for you?

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Uh, I don't think he's talking about his pedal...

  • @sleepingundrtree that could be misinterpreted

  • @sleepingundrtree hahahahah im so sorry i know its wrong but i laughed real bad

  • @sleepingundrtree yea, shure... your hard on has andy written all over it... sorry i couldn't resist...

  • @sleepingundrtree ahahahahah

  • @sleepingundrtree What did your girlfriend think of that?

  • you should consider demoing boost pedals on a dirty amp ;) just to get the idea if the pedal is a good gain booster. cheers!!

  • kinda impressive they were able to make a 4:32 long demo of a pedal which only increases your volume. I'm impressed

  • why does this cost 240 bucks all it does is increase the volume thats absurd

  • @Taygoo15 - That's not all it does, actually. We highly recommend reading ZVex's description of the SHO. Thanks!

    -PGS Video Crew

  • only absurd thing is that the electronic parts cost about 8 bucks, footswitch and potentiometer included.

  • @Taygoo15 cause it does ut suberb :)! I have got it on my board together with a SD pup booster which costed me 40 euros... thisone occasion for 135 euro... why I have 2 boosters and 1 drive? works best for me! but hey: this pedal is bloody awesome!

  • @Taygoo15 It's a great pedal but I completely agree with you. Here in Italy this one is priced 233 Euros, just take a look at what goes inside it and it's a shame

  • @Taygoo15 thats weird! i paid 120 retail for it about 4 months ago....i wish i looked at it more and turned the knob up (didnt want to get to loud at the store)....its mostly a volume increase (a bit of clarity and fatness does come though) probably not worth the $ though

  • @Taygoo15 Build a cheap one for yourself ;) i built it already and dont want it, im about to sell it but no one wants it :(

  • I want it, if only because of its name.

  • nice to hear some love

  • How is a boost pedal supposed to be used? Permanently on the beggining of the chain, at the end of the chain? Thanks

  • it depends on what you want it to do, if you want more gain on your sound, you have to place it in front of your distortion pedals, if you just want the same sound, but louder(for solo's) you have to put it at the end of the chain

  • @EdgarBeja There is no "right" answer. I have a different boost but I have it after all the distortions and overdrives but before and delays and phasers/choruses. Some people put it before everything, some after everything. The trick is to play around a bunch and try everything. See what works for you.

  • I use it before everything, but after the wah.

I've always been told to put tone changing effects first, gain effects after, then modulation, then time-based stuff.

  • What other effects are you using with this pedal? Is it chorus?

  • this is the only zvex pedal that sounds kinda normal

  • i have a hard on =] and its very nice

  • Punned!

  • Comment removed

  • It's a record player.

  • I know this is probably a stupid question, but you can run this directly into a speaker cab, or a PA system right? I'm looking for a pedal i can do that with, but still keep my tone pretty clean.

  • You could run straight into a board with it, but I wouldn't advise it. You want a San Amp for that.

But it won't drive a speaker cab.

  • Yeah, you will still need a power source for the pedal though.

  • EHX has something like that, its called the 22

the size of a pedal but it can drive a speaker

its on their website, you should be able to find it

  • maybe a pedalboard by boss or a novasystem?...

  • It just sound amazing!! =P

  • i think i'm getting a man crush on you Andy.

  • LOL

  • what guitar and amp are used in this video?

  • If you listen to the video, Andy tell you what amp and guitar he used.

Try listening somewhere between 0:00 and 4:32.

  • lol i laughed my ass when i saw that....

  • what do you think is the best overall boost pedal? (for someone that is looking for a clean boost without any unnecessary gain) Also, what boost effect also has the best buffering capability?

  • Pretty much a clean boost.

  • lol "super hard on", i want it just because of its name

  • kind of like the Way Huge Swollen Pickle fuzz pedal?or the Big Muff Fuzz pedal?haha, its fun to be offensive.

  • Bought one of these about six months ago, and I leave it on all the time. It just makes all my amps just sound .... better (for lack of a better word). Got it for $50 + traded in a shite DOD distortion pedal.

  • $50 plus a DOD? dude, you scored.

  • this dude playes every song off my ipod its amazing me and scaring me at the same time, bloody good work mysterious guitar guru

  • geeez these usually seem over priced as a simple booster but this is hands down the best boost pedal I've heard so far, listen to that grinding chord around 4:15 sounds like all tube amp and not like a pedal at all.

  • @s2khawk well, it's basically a tube amp being driven soo.. it is a tube amp? hahah :D

  • Super Hard On! Amazing sound, odd name!

  • So what do use this for?

  • boost

  • "Super hard-on." Lulz.

  • can I use it as a smooth overdrive?

  • its not a drive pedal,

you could use it with another drive pedal for instance, or with the amps natural tube drive.

what i found awesome with this pedal was stickin it at the end of my chain, and you can get such good drives of pedals at lower volumes, its just so so good.

  • This pedal acts as a buffer?

  • Yes, it can definitely work as a buffer.

  • it's true bypass... You'd probably want a buffered pedal, wouldn't you?

  • Does the volume increase a lot when you turn it up all the way? I don't really understand the negative feedback thing...could you explain how that works?

  • yes it increases a shit load

  • great pedal ... but your playing is MARVELLOUS!!!! so bluesy and funky ...

  • 200+ Demos! Nice job, Nice pedal

  • great demo!

been waiting for this one for a while

  • thanks for the demo, incredibly detailed review for a one knob pedal. but oh my fucking god that youtube compression KILLED this demo at the end

  • We are working on a solution for the compression. i.e. hosting the videos on our own server. We should have our new video library completed on our site by the end of June.

  • whats the song played at the intro of the demo? at 0:0 - 0:6?
