as far as getting a new team in i think with Doctor Who it is a completely different thing because no matter who plays the Doctor he is still The Doctor, still the same character at heart. and as far as it being the Gwen show I'm only halfway through the first season but i really don't feel any connection to Gwen, whether its the acting or the writing or what. i think Torchwood has a good base but somehow it doesn't pull it off. Like the Countryside episode could have been so much more emotional

Reading all these comments, I feel the need to defend the writers. I cried and hated when Ianto died, but that's what writers have to do. They create lovable characters that the audience will cherish, then put them in the worst situations. They took him away because everybody wanted him to continue living. So good move on the writers part, and I hope they don't bring him back otherwise his death would be useless.

I only have one request: Please don't make a new 'eye candy' for Jack!!

In doctor who how season 5 starts compleatly new. No mention of rose or donna or anything!! They compleatly renew it. I dont want that to happen with torchwood. from what i have heard from some friends, some of the episode plots will take place before ianto died, like a prequel. however i'm not sure if it is just a rumor or a fact. we can only hope they make the right choice, and why is it set in america now. wasn't their atleast 4 torchwood bases in england, they could have joined one of those bases?

The thing is, Ianto didn't have to die. They could have killed off Gwen and gotten the same result-Jack would have been willing to sacrifice his grandson either way.

Davies says that they killed off ianto to show that no one is safe from the hazards of their job, but all it does is show that only Gwen is safe from death. Every single Torchwood employee has died EXCEPT Gwen. They would have made a better point if they had killed her off and let a more minor character live.

They do know that now that they killed of almost all the cool people and that jack is the only one left that now no one is going to watch it. They arent very good tv producers if they make stupid decisions like killing everyone off and then think people are going to watch it. I hate RTD for killing of Ianto... Ianto, by far is my favourite character, and I LOVE Gareth David-Lloyd and Ianto Jones, both their characters are just amazing, without a doubt. I agree with Silverwolflucky, I don't think I'll watch Series 4 if they find a new "i-candy"

I was actually thinking the same thing as John when I watched it for the first time! I mean, if you look at the 1st series episode "Cyberwoman" he does bring him back to life! (Okay, maybe he just resuscitates him, but that's not what I think!!!) I was actually yelling at the television "COME ON JACK, KISS HIM!!! BRING HIM BACK TO LIFE!!" I have never cried so much at a character death. Ever. In my life!!!!!!

The danger in this show is that it's one thing to kill off one or two characters. At that point it's tragic. But what worries me is that the show has killed off pretty much everyone and there's fewer and fewer characters to root for. Then the people they add to the story will never really compare to Ianto, Tosh and Owen. You want heartbreak, but too much heartbreak makes your audience callus to the whole thing and less involved. It's like the Sopranos and who gets wacked next.

In all honesty I think the show has always revolved a little too much around Gwen if you know what I mean and she was always trying to get with Jack even when she had Rhys (who I think should of left her at the fucking altar).

I don't even know if I want to watch the next series. They kill off Owen, who grows on you even when he's a total jerk, and Tosh, oh Tosh you are mourned, and now Ianto? Ianto was the freaking core of Torchwood, one of the main reasons I stuck by and watched the show. And while I love Jack, I just wouldn't be able to handle it if things moved on like nothing happened. Especially since Gwen will be there, and we all know RTD ain't gonna do nothing that upsets Gwen more than he has to.

@TheMoonFellinLove It wasn't necessary for Ianto to die for Jack to sacrifice his grandson. We already know that Jack makes those difficult choices because he knows he has to (i.e Small Worlds). RTD just didn't like the fact that more people were identifying with the character that wasn't the one he wanted them identifying with. He should be happy now, because Torchwood season 4 isn't really Torchwood. It's Excalibur (look it up), which is what he wanted in the first place.

RTD was going to kill off Ianto INSTEAD OF OWEN in season two (obv that didnt go forward) and so, season three was "the right time" for him to die (my ass it was the right time)

if season four becomes the "gwen" show...screw it if im watching that crap...
