they beta test before they open public beta were just gonna catch what they missed since we dont know what to expect . they said near the end of 2010 is the release if it goes longer that maen its still too buggy to release.

The private beta is out now and no you are talking about the alpha test. they rarely do public beta's these days saying that, just about anyone can get into the private beta.

DVDs of what? The game? I dont think SE will bother sending 40k DVDs for the first beta testers..It'll be downloadable like all beta games.

They sent out over 150,000 CD's for first beta of FFXI, I know because I have the boxes still. It could be downloadable, but you have to remember, PS3 they have to send out bluray's. They are a corporation, a few thousand DVD's is nothing to them, especially when they can make their own games in their own factories. All it takes is a stamp tool.

Ahh, I didn't know that they sent FFXI CD's, but I've read somewhere on PS3 it'll be downloadable from the PSN, and they said they'll release a demo(Open beta I think?) so everyone could try it out.

It sucks for me because I doubt SE will send me Bluray DVDs since I live in the middle east, too much to bother I guess.

They wont be sending any CD's out for the beta. It will be a downloaded content once it starts. After such, the game will be released and CD's will be dispatched to the sellers.

i just signed up im new to beta testing so i also herd this is going to be free online play any news on that at all its apearently supposed to play like a regular final fantasy game set in an mmo world from what i read

It's possible but I seriously doubt it will be free to play after the release. It takes a lot to keep the servers up and running and frankly for a game as large as this, ads wont cover just typical maintenance fees. It would run S-E bankrupt. It would be nice though, but I can't see it happening. Too much time and effort spent on keeping it running smoothly... Gotta remember, an MMO is client-server based, it's not peer-to-peer. So their servers have to work for the game to work.

I don't know how they are doing it exactly, I might already be in if they are using snail mail and mailing out DVD's like they did with the FFXI beta, I wont know until the DVD gets here. On the other hand, it could be weeks before I know anything even if it's a download from their site. Depending on what they think of my application... it will depend on when I get my beta, if I get my beta. It's impossible to know, I guess I just have to hope for the best eh? :)

I think rigth now the way to get into beta is if you have an improbable computer/conection.

like an amstrad 6128 and 56k modem and being conected from south pole.

this way square enix may choose you lol.

First come review sites, like gamefaqs and ign, then people with different variety of common hardware and different mixes of common hardware for bug fixes. The reason they will go for most common is because more users will have that which will be high priority bug fixes. After that then they will start going oddball hardware. First things first, they want to fix the game to run smoothly on a wide variety of computers... Then they can slowly work down to end users... if that ever even happens.
