  • @roffel89 Yep, Roy C. Bennett is my grandfather, Sid Tepper is his partner, but yeah.

  • I was unaware of this song until I heard it on the music channel one night. Cute. Great video too. Funny thing is I remember 1950s Xmas TV but somehow they slipped Suzy by me.

  • @allan210015

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN...?

  • timeless classic so far away from our hearts and our memories thanks for the post

  • Saw it in R.I.

  • Oh my, I just found this. I grew up in NY and this marked the beginning of the Christmas season. And it wasn't a commercial for anything, it was shown between programs. Can you imagine something being aired on TV without a bottom line being considered? Not today, that's for sure.

  • It showed yearly in the New Haven, CT. area every Christmas season. I loved this piece when I was a child! Thank you so much

OMG, I loved Suzy Snowflake when I was a kid. It showed here in the New Haven, Ct. each Christmas season. Thank you SO much for sharing this!

  • wow this really brings back memories to those who grew up to the old christmas shows on tv each year. Something to definatly share with your kids and grandkids, these type of films like the walt disney movies never die...

  • to me it' not chritmas without seeing these classics (frosty and hardrock/coco/joe)

state college pa going way back to the mid 50s?

  • Back when I was aa kid, we could only get one channel---WJAC TV in JOHNSTOWN,PA :"Serving millions from atop the Alleghanies". This was a standard local favorite during the hollidays.

  • What's with the creepy gargoyle statue, anyone know?

  • @verobeachbob1 I think they wanted to cater to the males as well?

  • @verobeachbob1 subliminal NWO preconditioning.

  • i grew up with this. i wish the world was still like this. everybody who doesn't belong here would get the hell out. you know who you are !

  • Originally performed by Rosemary Clooney in 1951.

  • Thanks for posting this. I sing it to my daughter to drive her crazy. LOL. I'm originally from the Boston area and this is the first Christmas cartoon I remember.

  • Wjac in Johnstown Pa owns the rights to them they were made here too. They are as old as the first tbs

  • @Nightmysts They were made for WGN television in Chicago first, along with Frosty and Hardrock Coco and Joe !! Wjac played them also, but Wikipedia says, Chicago initially !!

  • Thanks for the memories! The decades have past way too fast.

  • My Grandma used to play this on the piano for us but I never knew it was a cartoon. I can't wait to show it to her! Thank you so much!

  • My parents spent Christmas at our cabin for years and this along with Hardrock, coco and Joe and Frosty were their highlights for the two weeks they stayed there> What memories.

  • Thanks for the post. I stumbled on this when WGN (I think) ran it on Xmas Eve a few years ago. I had not heard this tune for maybe 50 years since I was a little kid. This ran on some Dayton, OH, TV stations and maybe Cincy or Columbus back in the mid to late 50's. It really took me back. The animation (I guess stop action) looks kind of primitive by today's standards but was fascinating to a kid back in those days.

  • Norma Zimmer is the singer

  • I'm in the UK, and our nursery has taught it to our little one. Quality travels :D

  • @meatwarrior That is so wonderful to hear. As a young boy in Pennsylvania during the mid 60's, this song heralded the beginning of the Christmas season...and there indeed would be snow, and everything nice! I love this piece. You know, Miss Rosemary Clooney recorded the original studio version sometime in the late 50's.

  • WJAC is Johnstown PA, I grew up wit htis evey year

  • Does nobody else find this video for the song extremely creepy??? O.o

  • I grew up on the north side of Chicago, have been in FL for 12 years now....I'm 47 and just hearing the opening bars of this little tune takes me back...I can almost see the tree in the living room, the windows on the front porch frozen over....trying to use my hand to melt a spot so I could see the lights on the houses across the street.... the warm memories...from a life time ago..I remember Ray Rayner in the morning, Garfield Goose in the afternoon... Happy Holidays CHICAGO!!!!

  • I'm 42, and I still have the 45's my mom bought me of this song, and Hardrock Coco and Joe. So nice to watch these at Christmastime. I turn into a 3 yr old again for just a few minutes. : )

  • What a blast from the past I can't say how many times in my life both this song & Hardrock Coco & Joe have loop played in my head LOL Good old Gar & Frazier Thomas. My late husband was friends of the Newtons (mama & papa of Garfield Goose) and I had the honor of meeting them.

  • Serving millions from atop the Alleghenys---WJAC in Johnstown, PA. I live in NW PA and these were on every year.

  • This is a somewhat creepy video but I guess it's sort of a classic haha

  • I haven't heard this in years!!! The minute the song started playing I remembered all the words and was singing along; this and Hardrock, Coco, and Joe!

I grew up in Northern Indiana; watching WGN Channel 9 out of Chicago because there were no local TV stations then.

This brings back such lovely memories of being a carefree little girl; before growing boobs and life getting complicated. This song brought tears to my eyes; thank you so much for this post!

  • I remember watching this and Hard Rock, Cocoa and Joe and also Frosty the Snowman on WJAC in PA. My daughters enjoy watching them via You Tube since I live in Colorado now.

  • Every year, Smyth furniture gives DVD's of this, Hard Rock, Cocoa and Joe, and Frosty the Snowman.

Remember WGN news would track Santa with a radar and you would see the little sleigh and Reindeer? Then they would tell you to go to sleep early.

  • @americanrides my family lives in Uniontown and when my grandparents were alive i do remember watching that santa radar. lol

  • Haha! no problem

  • I grew up with Suzy Snowflake. From what I have been told WJAC for Johnstown PA own all the rights to Suzy! Brings back so many awsome memories. A guy a work thought he would get one over on me by singing it...LOL was he surprised when I started singing with him! LOL Thank you so much for the post!

  • I loved this when I was little!

  • Ray Rayner and Frasier Thomas were the best unlike the garbage now-----so much today is a total waste for kids---------the dumbing down of the USA

  • I have been looking for this for some time...I was a baby when I first heard this in the 50's..what fun to see and hear it again...and on the day of the Blizzard!!

  • Great to see it again. Wish I could live in that little snowflake world.

  • Yes, the cartoon was made by Centaur productions for Chicago's WGN TV channel 9, for Chicago children. It turned popular, and went all over the country !!

  • I watched this when I was a kid in both Wash D. C. and also in CA. Nobody I ask has ever heard of Suzy Snowflake. Glad I found it here. LOVE it.

  • @lilahfeeholly OMG... I have sang this and Hardrock Coco and Joe to MINE all their lives as well. Now, at 23 and 21 i showed them these videos...and they laughed. Not with joy, but with astonishment at how Tech-simple this was compared to their CGI and video EVERYTHING. NO - THIS is still the best. There was NOTHING better than starting a cold winter's day with these before trudging to school in the Chicago snow.

  • Chicago kids' Christmas Represent!! Yes!!

  • These 3 were ,

i'm pretty sure ,made for Chicago T.V. unless I'm mistaken .- Hardrock,Coco, and Joe-- Suzy Snowflake, and Frosty the Snowman>

  • IN TWIPPIN........

  • @pennstate562--apparently they still run 'em (WJAC Johnstown)!

  • It's odd...you mention Chicagoland, but the icon in the lower left corner of the screen is from WJAC Channel 6, Johnstown, PA--the station that I used to watch these films on...this one, Frosty the Snowman and The Three Little Elves (Hardrock, Coco and Joe).

  • I'm from the Boston area, and i'm 62. I remember this when I was just starting school, maybe 1952. may have been on Capt Kangarro!!!

  • I love Suzy Snowflake!

  • This production from Centaur was part of a series that was stop action film, they had a number of "cartoons" that were not animated all with musical productions. I really believe that Tim Burton had to have seen many of these as a child. I saw them from Cape May NJ from a Philadelphia station, NBC affiliate I believe.

  • I love this song. Never really heard it much growing up, but it's all coming back!

  • So, this must have been broadcast from NYC.....or I wouldn't have seen it in NJ! WOW what a great memory!! Thanks so much!

  • Born in 1949.......childhood in the 50's.......raised in Bloomfield, NJ. Throughout my life I have always asked people of my age if they remember "Suzie Snowflake"? That I an extremely vague 'memory' of a snowflake falling ay night, on the side of a house, and "when they panned in, the snowflake was actually a girl"! Only one person my entire life knew what I was talking about! Everyone else thought I was nuts! Such a vague memory....

But thanks to you, it's REAL! OMG-Suzie Snowflake is real!

  • One of my favorites when I was little.

  • We watched this on WJAC when I was kid. My mom, who also watched this when she was young, sang this song to us kids when it would begin to snow. We now live in the midwest and so appreciate the memories! Thanks!

They play all 3 of them around Christmas time.

  • :D I look forward to these little cartoons every year. Suzy's my favorite.

  • Itt, same here! It's good that they show the old clips every year so the older folks can feel like kids again.

  • It was made in 1953, by the Norman Lubof choir. But Norma Zimmer stood out with the lead vocal!!

  • It was Norma Zimmer who sang the part of Suzie Snowflake.

  • And...for some reason it doesn't feel like Winter or Christmas until I see this video on TV or hear the song on the radio.

  • I'd love to know who is singing this song. It's not Rosemary Clooney, and I don't like the Clooney version. Does anyone know?

  • i have to play dis for piano its funnn

  • This was the first 16mm film I saw in my grade school. Today I still love it. Notice there is no passing gas, kicking in the crotch, or jive talking smart-dude. By the way, assembly was in the cold gym setting on the floor and Aunt Jemima was the guest speaker and we loved her too. Her name was Ethel Harper bless he soul.

  • OMG lol i remember seeing this on WJAC outta Johnstown PA....they still show this at christmas and they show hardrock coco and joe. ooooh the memories

  • I am glad I am an old man who never had to see these creepy holiday videos as a kid. Have you seen the one where Santa has Fangs??? Of course, I live in Pennslyvania so I see these things every year

  • I remember this "mini video" from when I was a kid in the mid 60's just watching it takes me back to my childhood they don't make christmas videos like this anymore

  • OK, now I will have nightmares. Animated floating dolls are creepy enough, but this one is tap tap tapping on my freakin' windowpane!

  • I was four years old when this song was written! I don't remember exactly when I saw the cartoon on t.v., but it was about my favorite cartoon when I was small. I do have a piece of the first printing (perhaps only printing) of the sheet music. Thanks for this wonderful slide down Memory Lane!
