Wish my Crates would've lasted long enough for me to try this with them. Will never buy Crate again. Good speakers, bad electronics. This sounds great, especially the Holy Wars part (that was the song?).
Hey man, great demo. I just had a quick question about this amp because I'm planning on buying one very soon. I'm pretty sure I already know the answer but I just want to double check: This preamp can be run in front of a power amp and in front of another preamp and then a power amp like putting it in front of and amp head, right? Thanks!
TRUE preamps are designed to color the sound, noise is generated 1 in front or behind another. I say TRUE Preamp like Korg A3 is a preamp w/ effects but the Preamp can be softened or eliminated. My dilemma: 3 Tube Pres and Line 6 Pod Pro. Cannot run any before the other, harmonics are to muddy or noisy. Have no effects than a simply A/B/C switch will allow you to select the Preamp you want to power up. If you have an effects rack well you are out of luck unless you can afford a Bradshaw system.
@mcrazy4fx I know this is old, but I'm guessing you might want to just dial up a much cleaner tone on the Line 6 or try Peavey ReValver (there's a free demo). I liked using Line 6 as a preamp for ReValver but am looking for a better way rather than running a bunch of software.
I use this pre-amp exclusively on gigs with the Mosvalve power head that it was designed to be used with..thru two Celestion greenbacks in a Car Toys 2x12" subwoofer cabinet...i get guitarists all the time asking me what the fuck am i playing thru?....hundreds of gigs and not one single issue!.still going strong...everything from RockaBilly to Classic to Metal..the "stack" mode is sick/fat
oh man can't find it on e-bay. Can't find it anywhere. I only found the tube driver..Any ideas how I can order it (the preamp) here in Europe (Greece)? If it is still being manifactured
what amp are you playing on? I mean, you say just clean amp but it must be important what kind of amp? tube amp? doesn't the Butler blend with the flavor of the preamp you're playing through? If you answer you will help me a lot
I was playing it through a single channel vintage club crate set clean (input gain low high master) but it is running into a single vintage 30 miked with a 57. I sold the preamp more than a year ago but I still have the crate head (I have a couple videos of that amp here too). Honestly any tube head set clean would yield similar results.
I just bought one because of your vid! Thank you. What amp are you running this through. I am not getting close to this tone. Did you switch out the tubes or are they stock? Finally, what are your settings? THANKS
It was completely stock although changing the tubes may make an improvement. Different preamp tubes of the same output are really just different flavors to match the tone with the tone of your guitar and amp/poweramp. I just turned the knobs a lot and your amp and speaker matter a lot.
These are incredible sounding units... The versatility is unreal.... and you can dial in some very hardcore sounds... and, just a little tweak on any number of knobs gives HUGE variation in sound.... Thanks for the video.... I think I'll go fire mine up and grind!!!
i saw sufication has one of thease and he had some of the best leads in deathmetal. plus the grind on that thing was shreding. i was impresed. id like to hear a delat in the efex loop. i had there 80 / 80 amp hard to tell it wasent tube becaus of the push pull design. good clip a real unnone shredder.
This is plugged into either a power amp, or if you put it thru a combo you want to put it thru the effects loop return. Plugging it into the front of a combo will then take the great preamp sound and have the combo's preamp fuck with it.
The 922 is such a great unit. So is the newer version the 9002. Both are no longer made.
Thanks man, I just got a three channel dual rectifier, this stuff is good to know. I would love to get my hands on one of these, it's too bad they are no longer made. The new Randall KH-2 preamp sounds bad ass though.
Sounds great. Good stuff man.

nice sounding harmonics on the stacked... I'm betting with some EQing this thing could be a great addon for a boogie as it's a bit more marshally...
