I ride an '06 ex250 and I weigh 145. If your light like me, it will get up pretty quick. Not like a gixxer or any other supersport of course but it'll go.
The reason the gauge climbs so fast is because u r in a wheelie and the front wheel is not spinning as fast as the rear. as soon as the front wheel hits the ground again u can see the speeds climbing significantly fast, meaning that the speed gauge is linked with the front wheel, not the rear.

To answer the question about the wheelie below, it sounds like he just revved and dropped the clutch...could be the sound quality of the video misleading my assumption tho. I do agree with celticnutjob with the cornering tho, def need to keep ur line, u do that on a bigger bike and ur screwed...they arent as nimble as the 250's

Actually.. I don't know what's done to this bike if anything at all but, 12,500 is were most 250r's lose their peak torque. That is when Jetted w/ exhaust anyway. Which mine is, so if I'm WoT I usually shift right about 13k.. I don't pay attention (I listen/ feel for the power to flatten out and shift) but video's have shown my shifting to be of what I mentioned. Then again, I don't run mine like a race bike all over the highways.. I also dont find the point in tryin to be ghostrider on a 250r

I don't think the bike is very fast at all, the 1/4 mile time is about like any modern mid-size V6 passenger car.
It will certainly be quite a rush to ride, but I have seen a stock 10-year-old mini-van going faster and passing traffic just as quickly.
