In gulf war one, a mig 25 or 31 fired missiles against f15 and f18 or f16. One american jet was down and an f15 was close to be downed too. The f15 runned away out of the combat zone because of this.

In spite all the marketing really don't see any reason why would this aircraft be invisible to radar. I think the design goal was to make an aircraft with a smaller radar cross section frontally so that it gets detected only at closer ranges and that the aircraft is almost invisible to radar from certain angles - so that a radar guided missile loses the lock for a split of a second while F-22 is dodging - and when the speed is mach 3-4+ that's more than enough to prevent a hit.
Always #1 - F22 ...Sure anything can be shot down, we know that. But when these are used strategically, you'll be distracted shooting at something else before you realize what hit you. Love from Canada =)

the F-22 is the new F-15, only a couple hundred are made, extremely nice combat record and an awesome unmatched jet,
the F-35 is like the F-16, still a good aircraft but not as good as the F-15 and is designed more for striking ground targets and small dogfights.

@SDloco100 I dont trust in this IT is twin engines, it can't have a double engine failure in the same time. All jets can be shot downed. In gulf war one, a mig 25 or 31 fired missiles against f15 and f18 or f16. One american jet was down and an f15 was close to be downed too. The f15 runned away out of the combat zone because of this.

@lIIustration Most problems were with corrosion in some of the metals and the paint but that was with the prototypes in the 90's, every raptor today was built from 2005 to today free of these problems but yea there was 2 jets that had oxygen problems, every F-22 was grounded till they were sure that no other had that problem and if they did they were to get fixed.

F22 is a total failure guys. 350 million dollars/jet, it can only fire amraam exactly like a 35 years old F16. It can't do strike missions. This is why it is cancelled. And i don't comment about quality problems due to the stealth design ( rust before 7 years, structural fragility etc...). But the guys still here thinking it is the queen of the skies. This jet is the queen of hangars only. All the stealth planes F117 B2 F22 and F35 are a total failure. Overpriced and useless.

Depends. F22 is built in numbers and operational. But how good is the F22 at Air to ground (bombing/ use of ground attack missiles) The F22 is probably the best thing in the world at being a fighter/interceptor. But for Air to ground the F35 will vastly surpass it.
F22 was NOT cancelled, but ended the project, will end up like 180 built. In don't think there are 180 Eurofighter Typhoons built yet. Ended as cannot affort continued F22 production and F35 development at same time

@iqtuz The F-16 and its Air Force reject cousin the F-18 are being replaced by the F-35. The only reason the F-18 is in service is because the Navy picked it up due to its twin engine design and low stall speed. The US use to be fighter/attack/bomber setup, now its air superiority/multi-role/bomber.

@21scuderia Depends. The F-22 is the best dogfighter today. However, the F-35 is a multirole aircraft that can dogfight, cround attacks etc. Pretty much a jack of all trades but master of none. Yes, there are some F-22s that can ground attack, but they are not as effective as the F-35 in that aspect. But in a dogfight, the f-22 would win if the pilotes are equally skilled.

So you can shoot the missile in the direction of every plane in the world including f22 raptor for a kill. Information can come from awac, other jet fighter and many others. In spite all the marketing really don't see any reason why would this aircraft be invisible to radar. I think the design goal was to make an aircraft with a smaller radar cross section frontally so that it gets detected only at closer ranges and that the aircraft is almost invisible to radar from certain angles - so that a radar guided missile loses the lock for a split of a second while F-22 is dodging - and when the speed is mach 3-4+ that's more than enough to prevent a hit.

The radar system on the rafale wouldnt be able to lock on or find the raptor which renders the missiles useless. And the F-22 is significantly faster, more meneuverable, stealthier, can carry more missiles, has a higher service ceiling, and has a faster rate of climb, than the rafael. The F-22 is the most advanced fighter jet

Rafale can lock f22 with aesa, or OSF ( frontal thermal and video cam long range), or by data link information of another plane like awac or other rafale illuminating f22. Then rafale fire a missile in azymut without activating radar. 3 different methods to shoot down a f22. Secondly rafale is more manoeuvrable (11g locked) than f22. Rafale has meteor ( 3times + than amram) and spectra jaming system, F22 not.
