  • I wore this album and book out when I was a kid! Thanks for bringing back some of the fondest memories I have of my childhood!

  • :'D OMFG I LOVE THIS SONG!!! its thanks to costco i even knw about this movie...

  • It's so beautiful!

  • I know doing songs isn't really Peter Jacksons style but I wish they would just take all the songs from this version and put it in the new Hobbit. Renditions for all I care, it doesn't have to be the original songs. Just the melody!

  • @N00bDyke So true! :)

  • @N00bDyke as far as the trailer shows, they'll be doing at least ONE song...so lets keep our fingers crossed that they include others...so many good ones in the book.

  • I loved both the book and this movie as a kid, and re-experiencing them now (in order to introduce my young niece), the most surprising thing was that there were so many songs in the book. I love the Rankin & Bass soundtrack, of course, but at least from that snippet it seems that the new Hobbit may do an even better job.

  • @N00bDyke That would be awesome.

  • When Gandalf comes in singing a song this is what he is singing. So is Bilbo when he leaves Bag End in the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings.

  • I was watching Fellowship of the Ring again the other day, and I noticed that (I think it was Sam) was singing part of this song. I bet it was a direct reference to this Animated rendition by Peter Jackson.

  • @Omega59er This is a poem Tolkien wrote which was set to music for the animated film.

The poem features in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books.

  • The soundtrack for the entire LOTR Rankin-Bass series was amazing. In many ways they captured the spirit of the books better than the movies. At any rate they did an incredible job with the music, it sounds like something Tolkien would have appreciated.

  • Honestly, even if the remake they're working on is bloody brilliant, there is no way it will be on the same level as this rendition. And I'm not just saying that because I happen to have a copy of this soundtrack, but because... Well... This is a classic that many actually grew up with, even this of us born in the 90s. AND I STILL SAY THE WOOD ELVES DID NOT DESERVE SQUAT OF THE TREASURE. The men, yes. The wood elves... NOOOO!

  • Life's like a road that you travel on When there's one day here and the next day gone Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand Sometimes you turn your back to the wind There's a world outside every darkened door Where blues won't haunt you anymore Where the brave are free and lovers soar Come ride with me to the distant shore We won't hesitate, break down the garden gate There's not much time left today This is "Life is a Highway", but it's also very Bilbo.
  • This song brings a nostalgic tear to my eye.

  • I was in a stage version of The Hobbit when I was like 12 years old (I played Fili. Woohoo, representin' the dwarves!) and I got the big assignment of reciting this poem at the end. I memorized it using this song.

  • I can't wait for the live action version to come out, and return once again to Middle Earth. Also, this song deserves to be in it, this song is definitely something this version got right, to this day I still find it touching.

  • Thank you SO much for putting this up~ I ham so happy that I could cry.. I have always loved this movie truly one of the best there is~!!! ;v;

  • Thank you I watched this when I was a kid.

  • 1:08 ...lol

  • omg this twists my heart to hear.

  • This song is really sad, but also really beautiful!

  • I know all the words to this song ;n; Best movie ever!

"And through the merry flowers of doom..." I love that line ;v; Thanks so much for posting!

  • I wonder when they do the movie (again) they will use the same songs? I hope!

  • this music is awesome! id love these songs plz

  • The best part is 0:00 1:55. :-)

  • what can i say

  • Awsome, I didnt even know there was a soundtrack for this :P Thanks for the upload, It's a lovly blast from the past.

  • It should be noted that the Shire was completely destroyed by the end of the Third Age by Saruman's ruffians.

It was rebuilt once everything was put back in order and Wormtongue betrays Saruman. If Frodo and Company didn't come back when they did the hobbit's would have starved because all their food was being sent to Isengard (merry and pippen eat it after the ents attack). Merry and Pippin recieve most credit and popularity for their deeds on the battlefield and Sam marries Rosie.

  • @StreetFightBroadcast But the Shire was never quite the same. It was marred with a scar that it would bear for the rest of its days.

    Just like Frodo.

  • Gandalf tooked at him. "My dear Bilbo!" he said". "Something is the matter with you! You are not the hobbit that you were."

And so they crossed he bridge and passed the mill by the river and came right back to Bibo's own door.

  • do you know of any place i can get this picture? thank you

  • Sigh...

Is it even possible to get a copy of this soundtrack?

I have the movie, and even I don't have the full version of any of these songs...

  • OMG U HAVE SAVED ME!!!! I HAVE LOOKED FOR THIS SONG LIKE FOREVER EVER SINCE I HEARD IT IN THE 1980S AND 1990S WHEN I WATCHED THIS MOVIE -cries- ^.^

  • hell yeah.
