  • im telling you now the hippies had it right in the 60's

  • Why is it the natives in Brazil living off the grid is called degrading names such as uncivilized and barbaric, but North Americans living off the grid is called by all sort of nice fancy names like eco friendly, low carbon footprint......

  • Yes living off the grid with absolutely no knowledge of survival skills in the wilderness. FAIL! You can live off the grid by having a solar passive house that collects rain water, grey water systems, grows their own food, greenhouse to grow food, etc. This is produced by MTV so it probably has to be extreme and entertaining and dramatic. Please show a successful and easy way of living off the grid. Human beings need social interactions to survive. Not by isolating ourselves.

  • this was done many years ago. why do this now?

  • being on an MTV show is off the grid ? bitch please.

  • Solar panels are made completely locally too!

  • this lifestyle is the answer to all of our problems. im serious.

  • I saw Beavis and Butthead making terrible fun of this, it's so funny. These folks seem like unprepared tools, being lead by an unemployed IT nerd.

  • This off the grid thing is NOT about being some green hippie tool. It's about privacy, freedome and taking back the part of your life that allows you to feel self suffecient. You don't have to be some obnoxious eco warrior to want OFF the gov grid.

  • @marysunshine1990 I agree. Off the grid living is frowned upon by a lot of people, but it is the way we used to live. With nature (or God, if you're Christian). Society has just become such a boring place: you go to school, you go to college and university and get degrees, then work (probably in an office) for the rest of your life. And cities are so polluted and disgusting that I don't see how some people can bear to live in them! I hope more people try off the grid living. :)

  • at least they're better than hippies

  • I mean when I see hippies like this it's obvious that none of them have so much as even taken a peak at a fucking biology manual. Living off the grid isn't about taking pages from Manson's biography and mixing it with Native American and African Tribal hierarchy, and the -last- thing I'd want to put up with if I decided to live such a lifestyle is meetings with some dipshit who has authority over me...that's what I was escaping to begin with.

  • These crackheads aren't survivalists, they're filthy hobos playing some pseudo-Manson shit in the woods. I mean for one it doesn't look like any of them have so much as jumped in a lake in a year or so...then I hear something about "these are elder clams we dun eat these, dey need to spooge and carry on dere genetics", chances are they already have...if you eat nothing but the youth and leave the oldest animals it's a ground up death sentence.

  • @IcabodCrane that bunch of clap infected brush-rats ought to get some antibiotics[oops don't have any]it's like charlie manson meets lillith faire gone bad

  • I didn't know they had homeless people in Middle Earth. Now, go back to your tent and take off your clothes...

  • New systems make 100% back within 5 years for small to very large users- free afterward. Electric cars even using low tech batteries cost the equivalent of 12 cents a gallon to run. Tech is growing fast too. There are houses you can buy that don't cost any more but yet make 100% of their energy from solar. There are people in New Jersey that heat and cool and fully light a fully decked out house with all the extras plus provide 100% energy for their cars from one set of solar panels on the roof.

  • everyone should take note that many people around the world, still live in the ancient times, cut off from any modern societies, in africa, vanuatu, small islands in the pacific. thats my back up plan, if all goes to hell, im joining them

  • @juki0h

They're not going to just accept you into their tribe like that.

  • @Ilikemustard and how do you know this?

  • @juki0h

Take the Sentinelese as an example. They shoot arrows at anyone that comes too close to their island. You are naive if you think you can just join a random hunter-gatherer tribe.

  • @Ilikemustard ok, fine, not any tribe, but im sure atleast one will accept me. your naive to think i cant join any tribe

  • @juki0h At least one?...Why? You're delusional to think they want you or need to accept you. You don't belong.. you are only a burden on the people and the land. maybe you should consider what they want and need....and it's not some white guy who can't fend for himself that wants special treatment... You wanna join their tribe.. marry into it according to their customs. They don't need to help your selfish need to escape a world you helped create...fix the problems...leave them alone

  • @PumpkinMan66 think your just jealous cause i have a brilliant plan

  • @juki0h

I lived in the Jungles of South America for 9 years ... I have met many indigenous tribes from all over including aboriginals from Australia, the Masai tribes from the ma papa region in Kenya and native Americans from numerous tribes here in the US and Canada....I I know whereof I speak... and you dear fellow would be used as bait or simply led off somewhere..left and forgotten...end of story... your plan sucks..

  • Every day Thousands of Innocent Plants are killed by vegetarians. Help end the Violence....eat more meat!

  • When my cable TV goes out for a few minutes, I flip out.

The planet will end in a nuclear war but if reducing your carbon footprint makes you feel good, knock yourself out.

  • if I ever get homeless ill go rough it rather than beg for change and sleep on concrete, wasnt too long ago a man could go find a spot in the wilderness and make a life there, didnt cost nothing, just took proper wit and adventerous spirit. Now its illegal to not buy into their system, that means go in debt and have thousands of nieghbors, cant even sleep in public in most places.

  • You can reduce your carbon footprint by offing yourself, I guess.

  • There are better ways to go. Technology can mean living very well and being good to the planet. Be smarter to get an electric car and put solar panels on your roof and build a garden and maybe a greenhouse. Also CO2 is a good thing- plants breathe it and it expressly is not a greenhouse gas like some have pretended.

  • @TruthInjector

A electric car is hardly green.. delusional..at best...what a total sham!

Solar panels are not cost effective either..they cost more than they return in 20 years.not to mention the plastic and chemicals needed to produce them & they are made in China and shipped here.. how's that green?. and now the utility company want to charge solar users for access to the grid and transmission lines..off-setting any energy savings. GREEN is nothing but a bogus marketing term .

  • ipod hobos

  • Living off the grid doesn't mean that you give up living a civilized life, It simply means that you are not connect to the big power and water companies...check out solarcabin's channel.

  • The only thing is, fossil fuels aren't harming the planet.......

  • @Serpo71 ?

  • @chanceturcotte They're not harming the planet. There are farmers in the area that I live that put a thin coat of crude oil on there crops and the crops grow like crazy. That's why you don't hear anything about that oil spill in the gulf anymore. i beat the cattails in the swamps are 20 feet tall down there. Petroleum is GOOD not BAD....

  • @Serpo71 Scientists don't know how long fossil fuel takes to develop beneath the earth... they only know it takes 1000s of years, at least... as well, they don't know exactly how it develops... organic generation is only a theory. Regardless of short-term gains, it is not sustainable and should be abandoned.

  • @chanceturcotte If they could make a feasible electric car or make a solid infrastructure for hydrogen fuel cells, i'd be all for it. But right now, we are stuck with oil and it's not a bad thing....

  • @Serpo71 Regardless, as individuals we should be the change we want to see in our infrastructure. Yes, the system in place still limits our choices, but I'd reckon that most people could fully embrace public transportation if they need (or would like?) to get around far distances... and with changes in lifestyles and occupations...

  • @Serpo71 ...everyone could sustain themselves comfortably without any fossil fuel use (except possibly owning items fossil-fuel produced but that is the next battle). With all these efforts from each individual, alternative energy technology would progress very rapidly then. Giving up vehicles alone though, like I said, will revolutionize everything so much.

  • @Serpo71 You can't tell me we couldn't all live like this. Half the world lives on less than $2200 a year (even taking into account exchange rates and purchase power parity).

  • @Serpo71 (btw, in a nutshell, my current country-wide objectives are a pro-environment, alternative transportation, pro-life, human-rights advocating (locally, and internationally through sanctions, replacement of foreign hostile governments and millitary presence), small-government, locally-focused (in trade and all produced products)...

  • @Serpo71 ...democratic but socially aware country which rejects any suspected material excess until the 10-15 million that still die of starvation each year are rehabilitated and also able to carry on a self-sustainable, healthy 70+ year-old living like the rest of us.

  • @Serpo71 We need simplified living with more government support of clean energy and charitable giving where it is the MOST helpful ($10 feeds a starving child for a month in feeding programs for Africa, for instance... a one time grant of $60 in an impoverished nation frees a farmer from losing almost all his profit from market money lenders and their unfair prices and interest and enables him to sell his own crops and provide much better for his family).

  • Maybe IF they went to the First Nations people they would find they had everything they needed right at their fingertips... soap and mosquito repellant from trees, toothpaste from coals, food is everywhere and in reality there is enough food in the bush through plants that they wouldnt have to take another life to survive... here in Aussie the First Nations people (the Indiginous Aboriginals) know and are willing to teach those who sincerely want to learn the ways of bushlore

  • I guess i should also say to clarify , I am not currently living off the grid and havent been for several years , but if I found myself in that situation again by choice or by accident , I know everything would be a ok for my family

  • I have personally lived Off of the electrical Grid out in the middle of nowhere for more than a year at a time , Its not as bad as this video would have you believe

  • Cooking fires are a very major source of atmospheric CO2 and particulates.

Burning wood ? ... If we all burned wood, the USA would be like most of Asia (India, Persia, etc.) ... No trees to be found. I'm not saying that we could not plant fast-growing trees and use other bio-mass, but living off of poop-based methane would be an even greener "practice" and all you need is a barrel and a truck inner-tube ... some hose ... and, some poop.

  • i'd imagine a handicap person, or any living person with an illness; intense or mild, would more or less just have to die...according to what it takes to be worthy of the world to these people. this is silly.

  • It's all well until you start killing God's beautiful, wonderful animals, who do no

harm to this planet.... fish and eggs o.k., but don't kill animals.

  • @darlingsapphire1 Newsflash, Einstein: Fish are Animals. Film at 11.

  • The whole entire purpose of this show is to make people think off-grid living is 1.) all about "reducing your carbon footprint," as that is a new modern-day mantra they're busy shoving down our throats. Wrong. It's about freedom from corporate/govt control, reconnecting w/nature and depending on God instead of the elite. 2.) to make the populace think living off-grid means living uncivilized, like it's so impossibly difficult. Wrong again. Lots of off-gridders have technology and refinement.

  • @1robinsong Agreed!

  • @1robinsong Depending on god? go out in the middle of nowhere and see how far that gets you

  • Frigging morons, there's a right way and a wrong way when it comes to survival

And yes, they're going it wrong!

  • You can be off grid from your home and won't hurt the environment thanks to technology

  • Usually when I live off the grid, I also bring an MTV camera crew to document the authenticity of the experience.

  • No living off grid the smart way with technology is the way, not just living and going backwards, lol. The media is trying to plant another seed.

  • On grid living totally sucks! This computer is on grid it sucks, works like JUNK.

  • Off grid living sucks

  • Do the math if it cost 200 dollars a week to drive to Washington DC or Virginia to work a Job making 20 an hour while they live on the Ocean and make 400 to a 1000 an hour take 400 off your 1000 check leaves you with 600 taxes come off 1000 say 25% 250 so 350 you need to feed your family and welfare wont help you because you make 20 an hour so sence you can't afford healthcare you spend your 350 for your childrens food and got to find a way to pay for gas to get yourself back to work.

  • This is kinda funny. During the entirety of this video they make it look like off grid living is barbaric, and make you want to question your resolve on if you really want to life off grid. Which makes sense, if more and more people start going off grid the big business will loose money. Which is what matters most. Again MTV a huge corporation, why would they show off grid living in a positive light?

Off gird living is noble, and amazing. Growing your own food, raising your own family.

  • So the homeless are groundbreaking environmentalists?

  • :57 Here old timer, this green hit's for you!

  • That is not how you live off the grid you fucking dumbass, lol.

  • Alot of people are starting to want to live like this, myself included

  • This is also a good way to live, as we see the US economy collapse...

  • jenny is sexy

  • I just watched the full-length show and it seemed more like a cult than a wilderness skills school.

With so many spectacularly good bushcraft, survival and primitive living skills schools in the US I can't see why MTV chose to publicise this highly dubious venture.

Judging from some of the online reviews it's a pretty shoddy affair.

  • they will all go back to the grid because it is just a fun and games for them, because not a one could exist without modern day things, like CAMERAS? that chronicle their feeble attempts at off grid living?

  • not a very innovative bunch are they?

  • that guy is kinda hot. if he took a shower i'd totally bone him.

  • these guys are pussies, its like they are advertising for modern society the whole time, i would just do it like a champion.

  • I would love to live off-grid but I know I wouldn't make it very long. lol

  • Sooo 1 female surrounded by guys..... in a middle of nowhere...

  • Come on, there are lots of groups in this country (ecovillages) who live off the grid, but don't eat raw meat. Some of the stuff these people are doing is extreme.

  • That's just more American Kinkiness!

Nowhere near Natural Living but Hippy Survival Mania!

  • seems a bit hippy to me all about carbon footprint if i was to leave society it would be because it feels like a big jail ,to wake up and be free doing what you need to sustain yourself, not because a six pack of ducks towed up on my doorstep eating mc donalds wrappers.

  • More Carbon footprint bullshit, pushed by the left wing MTV.

  • There's nothing wrong with wanting to get back in touch with the earth but totally ditching modern technology because you're sick of the culture of excess is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. I've learned a lot of outdoor survival techniques from the internet and with modern medicine I can live off the land without worrying about parasites as much. We definitely need to simplify and live with more respect for the land but that's not the same as abandoning everything. just most of it

  • MEAT EATING RETARDS

  • @TheSalty42 I love animals. They're delicious.

  • @MrSafetymeeting then go eat your dad faggot

  • @TheSalty42 you're so smart.just kidding. People are supposed eat meat, stupid. That's why vegetarians are always scrawny and pale.

  • @MrSafetymeeting You think your suppost to eat meat? then go kill an animal with your teeth and eat it raw otherwise its bad for you. idiot

  • @TheSalty42 Thanks for verifying that you are completely insane . lol

  • @MrSafetymeeting thanks for using no logic idiot.

  • @TheSalty42

I'm guessing that 'faggot' means something else in America. Here in Scotland it's a meat based food product.

  • @asubjectiveopinion thats hella funny, it also means a bundle of sticks. I meant it like the word cunt or asshole thats how we use it here

  • @TheSalty42

    Oh, I see.

I live in Scotland, "cunt" is just a form of punctuation here.

  • 2.11 . A close look at the current economy.

  • lol, wow, this is not living off the grid, this is insanity. You can still have power, heat and a roof over your head and not be on the grid. You can even cook your food and not eat the heads of animals and still be off the grid,

  • this is so stupid

  • This comes of as manipulative to me. The natives had all sorts of skills that passed down from generation to generation, I don't think it's a transition that would happen very well overnight.

  • LIVING OFF THE GRID?? how many kids have no roof above their head, food for eating, or anything to wear?? take a good look at Japan, Africa, Middle East, India, Hawai and you are talking about this?? GOD! :/

  • Comment removed

  • The establishment hates the idea of people living off the grid. For numerous reasons i cannot be bothered to go into here. This is just their way of scaring people in middle America back into their little bubble. Living off the grid is not some sort of cave man like existence and i dont see why they cant use certain tools like a LIGHTER or soap. This is such a hit piece of alternative living.

  • Lol people in the midwest are so careless when walking around in the woods. Come to WA, where everything wants to hunt, kill and eat you.

  • What a joke.

  • Why not just become Amish instead?

  • Going native? That's offensive. How about just going natural, or going "white" ie crazy?

  • @HappyHooker83 the natives lived like this minus electricity and other shit, At least this isn't Pocahontas level offensive.

  • This reminds me of how much I hate "So called" reality shows. Also, a good barometer of just how far down the evolution scale the general public has traveled. Thinking people simply do not support such drivel as this...

  • can you order take aways from there?

  • This isn't living off the grid, these are hippies in the woods... or could also be known as living how the 3rd world lives every single day.

  • Humans have lived as hunter gatherers for a million years and until 2000 years ago, the majority of humanity was still living that way. The dirty hippies who made up 99% of human history thrived, they didn't have the domination of industrial society, no cancer, no mass suicide, and they could have lived that way till the sun dried up. Our civilized lifestyles only last until the oil dries up.

  • These people aren't "living off grid". If they were, they wouldn't be doing it for any other reason than because it's "chic' (so they think). They buy the whole "humans are bad" BS & how earth can't handle the stresses pollution is causing.

While there's definitely pollution, it's caused by big corporations who pay lobbyists to buy the politicians to turn a blind eye. Humans who buy things at wallymart etc. are funding their own depopulation programs. Government = bad. Quit supporting it.

  • I think it's probably a good thing to know what it actaually takes to survive in nature. You learn a lot about yourself by doing that, but trying to live like this for the rest of ones life is just silly. Even if it's just for a year it's silly. To be too dependent on anything makes you weak but "going off-grid" should be a balance. This is a course you may take for a while to learn some few tricks but it's not a permanent solution for us.

  • There are homeless

folks who do it for years,

    ya little college snobs.

  • This is whats called Selling serfdom to the masses by a bunch of new age loons in denial

  • @scottwebb agreed. I'm off grid in Idaho on 20 acres. But I have a fridge. I have a wood stove. I have a shower with hotter water, you do have to make them quicker though. That's why baths are good! But these kids all look like a bunch of English peasants looking for His Majesties Potatoes .

  • here we are agian.. Being programed to Give up on america. and to Fall for this Carbon Tax Scam. While the Rothschilds are taking over the Planet

  • This is not off grid. This is tree hugging hippies wanting to save the earth.

  • I dont get why all these people are ticked off and saying this life style is stupid .. yeah it's a bit extreme but are they hurting you by doing it? Does them living this way affect your life AT ALL? How about if you dont like it, dont do it. .. . Seems simple enough .

  • That girl would be hot if she'd clean herself up

  • stupid nonsense.. eating nuets and living like caveman is not living off the grid ..it is simply turning your back on thousands of years of collective knowledge without reason or purpose like some grimy homeless hippie

  • Why would you feel guilty? It's the fault of the corporate capitalist system for brainwashing people into thinking they need a piece of green paper to survive and give it to people who are taking everything else away from them.

  • @JoshuasGuitar I'm sure most people don't care about surviving, but rather thriving. That's not off the grid. That's a very long GIECO commercial. My wife and I live off grid, yet I come into town so I can talk to socialist like you. You don't even understand money what money is and how it is used. If you would like an education I'd be happy to give you one if you have the time. ;)

  • @DannyWilsonsLaundry You're right, I would like to learn more about money, and I think I have the time - what should I know? I'm talking about a piece of paper which reads 'I promise to bay the bearer on demand the sum of...' - it has no value. I do agree money can be useful, but not when abused - the fractional reserve system just does not work. When a sustainable system is effectively maintained, not just in theory, then I will agree that a monetary based economy is the best system.

  • Yeah, I agree this show is a bit ridiculous. What is GIECO? How do you live off the grid?

  • @JoshuasGuitar GIECO is a car insurance co. that had some early commercials with cavemen. We live off grid by using solar, and growing our own food in our aquaponics greenhouse. I sell produce year round and at farmers markets. I also make natural goat milk soap and sell to a few Bed and Breakfast. Don't make much money, but don't need much. Home is paid for, property is paid for. Trucks, paid for. No debt. Best way to live.

  • @DannyWilsonsLaundry Good for you, hope to be there some day.

  • AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET US FREE

  • cmon hurting the planet? idiotic excuse

  • You don't have to do it this stupid way. You can eat rice & beans, veges, live in a house, etc. You don't have to live in a tent without water & baths. You can live without gas & electricity, without a vehicle, eat simple foods & quit buying like an idiot & accomplish the same thing. These people are trying to live like animals. We should work and produce as well or we find we have no self worth. If you're goal is to live without working you've already defeated yourself.

  • @greenpilgrim50 you need to be thumped up more

  • @greenpilgrim50 somehow I disagree that living as my ancestors did is "living like animals". Many of my ancestors ( and others' as well I have no doubt) were very civilized and respected their envirnoment at the same time. Not taking more than you need and wasting things that can be used for every day living is not "animal-like", it's having respect and being greatful for what was provided. Believe it or not mankind was bathing long before the Romans' bath houses or "houses".

  • @Tinyoak2 bath houses weren't meant for baths. wink wink if you know what I mean. Men with little boys. that's right. that's the civilized side of the romans and greeks.

  • The United States has been an Oligarchy since scam Federal Reserve went in in 1913. We are an armed Oligarchy. Both parties are run by shadow govt. Citizens are armed. Off the grid or on physically much more has to be done to stop them from putting thru martial law Dec 20 2012

  • Earthship houses check that out u just can't make no preparations lol

U need solar panels u need a eco structure. Eco toilet

If u get sick u need a health care plan as I have or I would have bled to death recently without surgery

No matter what ure gonna need a job unless ure rich

I read 3 to 5 books a week ure not reading wtf is that. Come on u can be off the grid takes planning and money to begin. And I fucking hate bees hot sun I'm goth.

U can get a sm apt or efficinecy

  • These people are way to miserable to live off the land. I did it for 2 years, no bills, no hydro, no running water, no money! on Crown Land in Canada. Homemade cabin, my girlfriend and dog. Was REALLY hard, collecting water and chopping wood, washing clothes by hand in the ocean. Collecting food in the bush. I lost around 30 pounds the first year. Smoked about 5 pounds of Marijuana that first year to! It kept us going! I went around 3-4 months without spending a sigle penny!

  • There's people who live off the grid and still get internet. It's not like you become a caveman or something...

  • ewwww!! raw meat... yuck :/

  • @88948895611499 pussy bitch

  • @r2d23678 now, i try to be positive and not cuss nobody out on here because i am a positive person. you dont know me...so fuck you and the bitch that had ur dumb ass!!!

  • @88948895611499 you'd be the first little faggot bitch to die off if there was a Apocalypse, how does that make you feel faggot?

  • @r2d23678 hahaha!! it makes me feel great! LMAO at ur dumb ass!! hahaha.. but enough said, i will not waste anymore energy entertaining your hateful, immature ass. have a good one ;) its been real

  • This isn't living off the grid in the usual sense. This is survivor man MTV style... Maybe they should do a show that shows what it is really like to live off the grid

  • @MrC0MPUT3R LOL! MTV do something like how Discovery would? They would rather die. Because it wouldn't be entertaining in their eyes, if they showed true off the grid living.

  • it looks cold?im going somewhere warm all year. see the media spin?oh what will they do without a coke? ha ha

  • What? no soap or shampoo? Fucking smelly cunts.

  • Terrible betrayal of living of "off the grid". I hate MTV!

  • Birth deaths at 1/5 and average life of 45yrs.

  • i want to put my carbon foot print in the asses of the brain washed masses....HELLO!!!!!!! WAKE THE FU#K UP PPL...AL GORE LIED TO U....WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM, ARE YOU REALY THAT BLIND THAT YOU CANT SEE, IT JUST ONE MORE WAY TO TAX YOU....

  • What the fuck is this bullshit .You don't have to look like a pre-historical man to live off the grid, just use 2011 technology!!! Common we have the technology today to feed off in food and electricity the whole god damn planet but just because we are fighting all over the place for the ownership and money benefits we kill each other in the process . For Christ sake's, nobody owns anything it is all given freely from the divine/nature. Common let's be at peace and change our way of thinking...

  • @yakidou well....when "divine nature" wants it's "property taxes" paid or you will be evicted off the land you might feel different about your statement...."nobody owns anything"

  • I'm all in favor of living off the grid, but it's stupid to do it to reduce our carbon footprint. If you don't like CO2, you might as well kill all the plants and other life, which emit that gas. It is essential for life. This carbon footprint is the biggest scam going - just another excuse to tax and control the population.

  • @MrSpeakingrock Plants dont give off co2, they produce oxygen.

  • POSERS

  • I'm living off the grid....with an MTV camera crew.

  • @lestat34208 it somewhat is. The Egyptians had toothbrushes made from horse hairs.

  • um tooth brush is somewhat modern lol :P

  • All these idiots who say they are going to live off the grid or in the woods either have a nest egg with plenty of money or their parents paid their way through college and they have a job waiting for them when they get back. If any of this was really true these stories would be about people that are real life homeless not a fucking joke like these people. They actually showed the guy getting stuff out of his 30k jeep cherokee, what a complete joke.

  • gtfo..... this is NOT living off the grid...... this is living in the park.

  • @JuneBugJoe living off the grid just means no utilities or incoming power from the GRID... you can live off the grid in a suburb dumb ass

  • total douches

  • @JuneBugJoe and he's on a frikin television show. hardly off the grid...

  • whats interesting is that ALL OF US LIVED OFF THE GRID 150 years ago. And probably not that long ago. And once we run out of oil we will be doing it again. Enjoy the lifestyle you live because IT WILL NOT LAST!!

  • @skyybutter1 instead of giving all of it up though when faced with that actual reality, I think we will change energy sources. I mean, we can now, we just don't. But when faced with actually having to leave it all behind, I think we will just make that change instead of going without. Why would those in control just not continue that control by adapting to the changes in the situation?

  • @skyybutter1 Yes and no. Since back then, there was no grid at all. No one thought to call it that. But you are right, this lifestyle will not last. And the big oil companies are not pushing for true reusable ways to keep our current way of life going.

  • i agree w most of the comments,, the media makes them look crazy because the media are asswipes, and just going off the grid doesnt mean you have to live in a shack made of sticks,,with no running water,, with a bit of hard work and a little up front money you can have solar power wind power etc,,, enough to operate a normal house then growing your own food too,, or fishing and hunting,, its a normal thing to do,, what is abnormal is high density city living,, its only an abberation in time

  • @ikambor Exactly. That show looked like a bunch of people who know nothing about anything who are trying to survive out in the wild after a day, without doing any kind of research and without talking to people who have been doing this for year. I saw no garden and no farm animals. which are vital parts of sustainable living .. ou can have POWER without feeding into the GRID. Solar power, wind power, methane gas from human-waste and compost. That show looked like a bunch of B.S. for sure.

  • this is kind of lame lol when i eventually leave civilization i want to live in the middle of a snowy tundra by myself

  • These guys are noobs and make living off the grid look hard. Lot of people live off the grid by just collecting rain water and farming. check out this place called Dancing Rabbit where a group of people are living off the grid just fine for over 11 years.

  • This is all misleading. The grid is what makes money pointless. Our advances in technology are what make it so simple. The profit motive is a sick thing. it keeps us down as a species.

  • Off the grid into a hippy commune.

  • This is hilarious. So going green = your homeless. Just face it, you couldn't hack it in the civilized world so going "green" is your euphemism for homelessness.

  • I would't consider this "living off the grid" this living in the woods with a much of hippies and tree huggers that guy with the beard is jokes to. I lived off the grid for 2 years in a cabin with solar and wind power and garden and i think thats what most people think of as well because what these people are attempting is not possible or desirable for most people.
