Judo is the watered down sports version of Jujutsu with the submissions and ground game taken out. If you take into account that Maeda was more of a teacher than a dominant master and pioneer of judo, there were none before Kimura, and none after Kimura. Unless you count Yoshida, Koga and Yamashita as ju jitsu masters.

Judo and BJJ r both great I think it more comes down to the individuals more than the style, Kimura was amazing, unbelievable athlete with awesome skills it takes some guts not to tap after your arm gets broken twice.

@2431346 Helio was a lot smaller and had a disability that made him weak growing up. Kimura used to throw TREES to practice. The weight and size/stregnth difference was incredible. Kimura even said if Helio lasted more than 3 minutes, he would agree that Helio won. The fight lasted 13 minutes. Kimura dislocated Helio's shoulder and he still didn't tap. Helio's corner threw in the towel. Judo can't do anything to BJJ these days.

For the people talking about multiple attackers and BJJ: when the system was a method of unarmed self defense for fighting armed samurai the moves were performed always standing or kneeling, never on the ground because if the samurai's ass you were whupping had a few buddies with swords come along you were dead. This way any holds or chokes you were doing could always be released if you suddenly had to deal with multiple attackers.
