Interesting that in court, Ted was: The defendant, defense attorney of self, cross examiner and witness all at once. Judge Cowart, very much impressed by his performance that he praised him, saying he would have made a good lawyer. Ted's IQ was 124, intellectually superior, and he did a damn good job as his own attorney, considering not many killers do that at all. But I guess Ted's law school background helped.

Any defense of Bundy is completely evil and immoral. Saying that he was "smart" is defending a murderer. If you think that, go to the families of his victims and say, "The guy who raped and murdered your daughter was a really smart guy. He just made a bad decision, like running a read light." With the investigation protocols used today, the FBI would have captured Bundy one hour after his first crime.
Bundy wasn´t intelligent at all, he was simply a small-time criminal who became "famous" thanks to the infamous lack of police training......

The context of Bundy's acts was 4 US states in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Both his own testimony and that his psychiatrists state that he was obsessed with status, power, and ownership over both people and objects, to the extent that in his mind the latter two became interchangeable. It's not that hard to see a clear link with the ideals of accumulating wealth and keeping up with the neighbours at all cost that was the social code in the US at that time. Read Ellis' "American Psycho".
