If Hollywood dies on the remake binge, it's no big loss (at least to me) because all they've been doing is making remakes of movies I already have on LaserDisc, DVD, and Blu-Ray Disc.
They're giving me absolutely no reason to go out and spend my money on a ticket to a movie that I can basically watch for free in the comfort of my home on my home theater system.
yeah! i hate, hollywood remaking asian movies, becauses, they never give credit to the original film and most people will not know its a remake! and i also don't get it why hollywood films can be show worldwide, but great asian films can't get releases in the U.S, and then get remade,? and they profit from it!!, the original film gets no worldwide exposurer?
and also speilberg has the rights to remake an american live action ghost in the shell, and also will smith's boy will be the new karate kid in the remake, what is the world coming to ....
Its about money, and the new karate kid movie isn't a remake its just a new karate kid movie.. Besides all of this I'm so sick of people from other counties bitching about American movies, politics and lifestyles.. Seriously if you guys hate what we're doing so much stop watching and start making your own damn movies. Sorry for be so harsh but I'm sick of hearing people complain.
Avatar was a huge movie and all it really was was a retelling of Pocahontas theme only modernized..
@blurbum9 ok did you not see the date on this? karate kid wasnt even out yet no one knew much about it.and secondly if no one spoke their mind then whats the point of having a voice? there are so many amazing american movies, yet hollywood is just pumping out so much remade crap sometimes, and like you said, it's about money. and plese keep politics and lifestyles out of this, this is about movie remakes.and people are making their own movies, yet hollywoodbuys them and remakes them a-la-usa
@turner42 LOL and this isn't about politics or life style? I can assure you there are a lot more Canadian remakes of American songs and movies than the other way around. I live in Michigan near Detroit i can drive to Canada in 30 mins to an hour and have spent a lot of time there fishing.. Beautiful country but when i go up there i watch your tv and listen to your radio. I recall a station bragging it played all Canadian music all the time and the first song i hear was an American rip off..

You got Jackie Chan and a black kid and you want to call it a remake from a movie with an old man and a young white boy... Where was the wax on wax of scene or any other scene that resembles the original in any way?
Yeah, let's remake Ocean's 11. Yeah, that was pretty cool...we made a lot of money, didn't we? Let's get the cast together with a half-assed script that's kind of like the original, churn it out and make more money!
Remaking movies is simply a new way to boost their movie industry, to get the younger generation into that movie (that they know it's a sure win story). It's simply a successful strategy.

Bad news. I saw from wikipedia, and it says that there's going to be english-language remake, director Matt Reeves and it's scheduled for 2010.
