@RonAlmeida For starters, i can't believe anyone actually used the word "bourgeouis"... did you look that up in a dictionary? Second,, the whole point of movies IS to see 'unrealistic' crap. If i want to see every day, "real" life, i'd watch my neighbours.
The whole point of cinema is to see things that aren't real!!!!
really? Liz said on Larry King Live that she never had a better time in her life than on this film and she and Richard could get everything out in the fight scenes and go home and cuddle and everything would be fine.
I've just read a book about Liz and it was written what I've said before. But maybe it's wrong. Do you have a link or something where I can watch this interview ? Thank you :)
it was on Larry King live I don't know if the whole thing is posted in its entirety. But Liz did say that what I posted, but there were times where it was hard later on in the shoot, when they did those hard scenes where she was crying an stuff. And there was one scene where they fight by the car where RIchard threw her against the car and Liz was reallly knocked out or faint because of that. So what you said is partly true, but I'm sure it was ups and downs. Books ofcourse exaggerate stuff.
Yeah, books exaggerate a lot, sometimes. I've also read that it was Liz' favourite movie of her, so I guess the shooting wasn't that bad... But it's true some scenes should have been really scary to shoot...
Only couples that have been together for a very long time can possibly begin to understand the dynamics here. Since marriages seem to last but a few years at best, noone will get to this point and that oddly enough is a valuable prize. I told you you'd only understand after YEARS and YEARS...
Burton shouldn't have used an English accent to play the American George.

Even Elizabeth Taylor's cackling in this scene is brilliant acting.

Not true that they couldn't have a baby. The child they argue about is the one that they gave up for adoption. (Albee was adopted)
dmax801 11 months ago
@dmax801 Wrong. The child is imaginary. They dreamed of having a baby but then later on they couldnt and used it to further degrade eachother.

After watching this movie, you will understand why Richard and Liz were so mega famous.

Jesus, I thought he was really gonna kill her!!

It's great, exactly when he reveals the gun, there is a cut to her saying POW!
Great editing

I love the tick-tocking shadows of the light bulb on George's mind.
You can almost hear the wind up of the cuckoo-bird getting ready to break down a door.
There may not be a more brilliant moment in all of film than George's contemplation as he enters his closet. (Oh, so colorful on every level.)
George's face after he pulls the trigger shows the unattainable level of Burton's acting. (Hannibal Lecter copied from him.)

When I first watched this I was like OH MY GOD.
And then it was an umbrella.
Ahh the perfect suspense, this movie was in every way perfect.

The making of this film has been very hard for Taylor and Burton, because she had to be rude with him, ...
At the end, they couldn't make anymore the difference between the film and the reality of their couple.
However, it's a great film, one of the greatest of their career.

The film editor and cinematographer are little scenestealers here...lol - this scene was PERFECT! Intense...
cassone2007 3 years ago 2
Richard Burton's eyes are really intense in this scene...for a second i thought he really was gonna shoot her...
spoiler:...I read somewhere that the 'fake' gun symbolizes Burton's impotence...they couldn't have a baby and the 'fake' gun symbolizes that...
finalfantasyst 3 years ago 7
@finalfantasyst Yes, that's correct. It possibly represents George's homosexuality.
