  • I'm a high school senior taking college courses along with my senior year classes (it'll be a heavy workload, but mainly science courses) and then to a premed/science major in college, should I go 13 or 15? I won't be doing any video or image editing, but will probably watch a lot of movies and tv shows (little to no gaming here) when not typing or doing college projects (about which I know very little).

TLDR: 13 or 15 for a student in lots of science courses in high school/college?

  • @codythomashunsberger The 13 inch will probably suffice just fine. Now, if you have the extra cash and won't really miss it, you can't go wrong with a 15 inch. The extra weight and bulk may be a bit more of a drag though.

  • 15 for me as i m a graphic designer

  • hmm i was wondering which one do u think will be more better for me im a high school student and i might somewhat game(starcraft and stuff related), essays, maybe some video editing or garage band. do u think 13" or 15" is better for me?

  • @franklinhong97 Gaming is always smoother on the 15 inch. How much smoother will depend on the quality of the frames graphics and the processing power required by the game. If you have the money, the 15 inch is never a bad choice. Having said that, the 13 is a very powerful, and more portable machine.

  • I just bought a 13 inch Macbook i5 Dual Core and I'm a Junior in High school and I will be bringing it to school as well. I only need a macbook for typing essays and using the internet so which one, a 13 inch or 15 inch? Should I return my 13 inch for a 15 inch?

  • @lespaulrules123 The 13 inch will be fine for that! Besides, it's more portable.

  • @RyanKnowsTech Alright and what if I want to watch HD movies should I stay with the 15 inch or just get an SSD?

  • @lespaulrules123 SSD won't do much with HD movies.. just boot/and disk intensive speed stuff. The 15 inch would give you more screen for movies though.

  • @RyanKnowsTech So all in all, which one is better? 15 inch or 13 inch and is it worth the extra money? (Note: It's more around 1000 dollars more than the 13 inch for me as I get the warranties from best buy which our more the more expensive the product)

  • @lespaulrules123 The 15 inch is better, and for me, worth the upgrade. If you won't use the big performance increase for lots of video editing or gaming, then you simply don't need it and the 13 inch will be good enough.

  • hi which one is faster I do alot of recording for youtube. And I saw the 13 is 1424.93 with 750GB . And the 15 is 1749.99 with 750GB. which one would you get? Thanks .

  • @rockadrumboy86 If you can afford the 15, the video editing and export times will pay off!

  • Im also a student and ive always like to work on recording and video projects, which laptop would you prefer? anything i should be aware of when purchasing a macbook pro?

  • @nicknachos1 You are making the right decision! The MacBook Pro is what you want. Make sure you get 8GB of RAM for better performance though.

  • 7777 views?!?!

  • i think it`s pretty stupid, that there is no anti-glare display for 13"

  • Im in to video editing. I use adobe after effects and I can mainly only afford the 13" late 2011 thats 1500 dollars approx. I'm also in school still aswell so...Also im still saving

  • Your pockets are 13" inches wide?

  • I'm still confused... Not because the video was not convincing and reliable, but because of my mind.

  • Thankyou, finally a video that addresses the size and portability factors.

  • @Ruuderman 15' it is

  • @Ruuderman Thanks for watching!

  • I love the 15 but, most people can not afford it. 13" is a great choice.

  • I purchased the new 13" 2.4 i5 the other day. It's incredible but I will be returning it as its a too small for what I need. I can't afford the new 15" so I will probs go down the refurb route on an older model.

  • Should I get this or Mac air?

  • @madfat216 Do you want more power and connectivity or is portability more important to you?

  • @RyanKnowsTech well im just debating on whether or not i care if there is a cd/dvd drive

  • Which one do you prefer me to get, 13 or 15 inch?

  • @crazyislandman Depends for you personally. Which one do you need more? Portability with a good amount of power (13) or tons of power but less portability for more money? (15)

  • You must be so rich.

  • how did you convince your parents to allow you to own 2 of these beasts, LOL. ! [:

  • Getting my 15' Friday!!!!!!!!!!! So spastic about it.

  • what do you use your macbook for in high school because next year I'm gonna get a macbook pro and i would really love to use my laptop in school

  • @zakarylakota Word processing, research

  • @RyanKnowsTech oh ok thanks

  • I went from a 13 inch Mackbook in high school to a 17 inch Macbook pro in College. I brought it to school almost daily, and I bring it everywhere with me when I go hang out with friends. It thankfully fits in my backpack, a 15 inch would fit better with a case, but I prefer the larger screen and more USB ports. (It would have been better if it had the SD slot too, but it doesn't have that.

  • I'm going for the 13" because the 15" is way too much!

  • @anil2 Bow Chicka Bow Wow.

  • @icdalight12345 huh?

  • ryan i just got my 15 inch mac book pro your right it is incredible, its completely worth it to man up and carry the 15! what do you keep yours in for travel?

  • @nygisgod What do I keep it in? I have the Incase neoprene case.

  • @RyanKnowsTech i have that to, but do you have a special back pack designed for the laptop?

  • @nygisgod Nope, just that case.

  • he doesn't even sound like he's in high school.. thats hot.

  • You're just in High school but you own a BMW? I'm envious. :( Haha. :)

  • Awesome intro.

  • Where you wearing Mens Ralph-Lauren cargo shorts?

  • @abnercus lol yes, I was!

  • @RyanKnowsTech I love RL cloths. I really don't wear almost any other brand. (Except for some Tommy Hilfiger, but RL FTW!)

  • @abnercus Have you not noticed.. that's all I wear too lol. :)

  • 17" 2010 here. I think it wasn't worth so much money thou. In terms of portability is ok. I had my backpack and sleeve from my previous laptop - 15" VAIO and my MBP fits just fine.

  • still love my 2010 13" MBP!

  • Traded in my 13" for a 15", glad I did. The 13" is definitely more portable but the 15" is so much better.

  • @Thomasnoh8888 Get the MacBook Pro, it's faster and cheaper! And all that portable power is portable.

  • Great video once again Ryan, but my 13 inch died inside each time you complimented the 15 inch

  • I like the screen size and resolution of the 15 in.

  • @gmanthirty get an SSD

  • Hey Ryan! I have the 13 inch MacBook Pro with the i5 with 4 gigs of ram on a 320 gig hard drive. I don't have anything stored on it but for some reason it does feel like it is kind of slow. Do you have an recommendations to see how I can speed it up? Thanks! Great video BTW.

  • @gmanthirty Run CleanMyMac!

  • are you seriously on your senior year of high school?!?!?!?! OMG you look a lot older!!!!

  • @Hector947 haha yeah

  • Very helpful. Thanks, Ryan. Since I'm primarily a desktop guy and this would be my second computer I'm going with the 13 inch.

  • @goosed1 Glad to help!

  • hi .. i'm an engineering student.. is the macbook pro 15 inch 2011 suitable for me in terms of money and specs? if theres no version for mac is the parallel desktop enough power to run my engineering softwares? eg. matlab, mathcad, autocad, fortran and much more

  • @izzan920105 Yeah I'd say it is. I have the 2.2GHz i7 with 8GBs of RAM. That's what you want to get. I have used AutoCAD on it with some really basic projects and it works just fine. The 2011 15 inch MacBook Pros should be more than powerful enough to run what you're looking for.

  • @RyanKnowsTech are you using the 17 inch? Autocad has the mac version.. how about if i run windows based software on parallel desktop? any limitation?

  • @izzan920105 Mine is a 15 inch. Any limitations of the Mac version? Not that I know of.

  • Did you see your 13" yet?

  • @thetechfixer No buyers. :(

  • @RyanKnowsTech I don't mean for this to sound bad, but maybe people are uninterested because of the sound issues you had.

  • So, did you ever end up selling your 13" or no?

  • @TheGeek1028 No buyers :(

  • @RyanKnowsTech Aw :/

I would've bought it if I had the sufficient money to, but I'm 14 and can't exactly do that. So I'm stuck on a Core 2 Solo Acer subnotebook. xD
