Myer being the duty station of the US Army "Old Guard" and attached to Arlington National Cemetery where Ira's body lies in the "Garden of Stone". Johnny Cash probably did not know this, but the Gila River was dammed to provide water to the San Carlos Apache Reservation, not the "white man". The Apache tribe owns the reservoir and the BIA owns the dam. Coolidge was President at the time.

Smedley Butler was only a Major General (two stars), not a General (four stars). And he was never Commandant. He was passed over for the post in favor of Ben H. Fuller from Big Rapids, MI even though Butler was the senior Major General in the Corps' at the time. He voluntarily retired shortly thereafter.
