It's very touching to witness how her family rallied around Kate, despite the fact that it must have been terribly difficult. Here Rufus appears to begin to lose his composure and Martha steps in. Surely all involved knew this was her swan song.

Sitting here in the bleak midwinter of Labrador just hearing that Kate passed. Flakes of memory fall: riding across Northern Canada in a van long ago with Kate and Anna keeping spirits up singing "Swimming Song"; understanding just why my heart was helplessly freezing over/breaking "Heart Like a Wheel"; giving the delight of the French muse with their impeccable, unmatched harmonies. I know I am not the only one crying, hearing this news. Kate and Anna were once only, like Piaf.
