The Letters from Iwo Jima clip showed one pet peeve I have with war movies: A fighter such as the Corsair, firing those six .50 cals at the ground, won't make little ripples walking towards the running soldier. Look at any WWII strafing clips, and you will see the ground erupt all over the place.

The scene with the spitfire and bf109 I believe was from the beginning of Pearl Harbor (Ben Affleck served in the Battle of Britain) There was also a very small scene from Cross of Iron (putting a mine on the track of a t34) And also there wasn't an elephant tank in that montage. If you were referring to the tank from Band of Brothers it was a Stug IIIG or IV which at that distance a Sherman could take out somewhat easily.

Of course not all German soldiers were bad. Their cause however was, which makes people feel uneasy about playing as a soldier fighting for that cause. I doubt you'll see a first person shooter where you can play as a soldier for Nazi Germany in the single-player. Quite a few RTS games have ventured into that territory though.
