  • Brazil's energy independence is the story of controlling demand, not increasing supply. Mandates for flex-fuel ICEs that could accept sugar cane ethanol is not as important as the anti-car laws. There is a huge tax to buy a car, a huge tax each year to own a car, and a huge tax to drive a car on the road. There is bus rapid transit, which mean bus exclusive roads and buses move faster than cars on the stop light. There are also bicycle exclusive roads. A smaller % of Brazilians drive than here.

  • Why isn't Chris pushing him on the E85 bullshit? He spends some time explaining how bad it is in the crash course, yet he is allowing this guy to on and on about ethanol. There will NEVER be an infrastructure for ethanol because it can't be piped, it has to be put on a truck and transported that way! E85 SUCKS!

  • People who drive ethanol cars in Brazil are driving rain forest cars, that is, they destroy the rain forest to raise sugar cane and process it into ethanol. Ethanol simply isn't a good idea. The only realistic biofuel is algae, preferably a closed system or a salt water algae, because open pond algae production uses A LOT of water.

  • The reality is that we don't NEED 21mb/d of oil, it's not like we are going do die without that much oil. We waste a large amount of our oil and we could get by on 1/2 of what we are using if we only made simple changes in our life, like combining trips, using public transit, no pleasure driving, no autoracing and the like.
