  • WOW I find it sad that someone would need to justify learning anything let alone a language. I guess some just don't know they are born in this day and age.

  • I don't see whats wrong with learning a language for whatever reason. If it is for business or pleasure or even if you just enjoy the process, it is not a waste of time, because it brings VALUE to YOU in some shape or form and no reason is really better than the other. That is my opinion.

  • @Imyirtseshem haha your right never gonna quit.

  • For me, learning languages allows you to express ideas and concepts in much more refined and clear manner than other languages. For example the word 懐かしい(natsukashii) in Japanese is directly translated as "nostalgic" but more closely relates to the phrase "wow, that takes me back." It describes something in the far or near past that gives you that warming feeling of being kind of cool in that "old school" way as you remember. This is just one example of many.

  • @bluzytrix That's a very common one. Similar expression in Chinese ''我怀念在台湾的生活!‘’

  • cuz only kyle wears a cap like that!!!!

btw how many language do you speak???

  • the point is, your kyle cap is missing!!!

  • @SMMili91 Why do people call it a kyle cap? haah

  • @laoshu505000 in south park, kyle wears that same hat. stan and cartman wear beanies and kenny wears a hood.

  • What do you mean with "it's a stepping stone"? Or what does it mean in general?

(I'm not a native english speaker)

  • @GuidingSlasher In general means generally, or broadly, or applying to most. "It's a stepping stone" means it's one stage/step towards the next. Stepping stones are stones in a path across a river that you can step on, so it's like going one step further across a river.

  • @PaulSLambeth Thanks Paul.

  • @PaulSLambeth Thanks :)

  • Language learning is like playing sports, coin collecting, art, or anything else like that. It is a hobby that you enjoy whether anybody else does or not.

  • @marekiller8 Yes indeed. And also like playing videos games!

  • It's far more pointless to not learn a language.

  • @TehCacti I agree with that!

  • People are too caught up in "usefulness" and all the utilitarian reasons. Whatever happened to just undertaking a challenge?

  • @Xieerqi I know, right

  • There are only two reasons to learn a language: because you have to, or because you want to. The first is based on external pressure, and the second is based on internal passion. Even if you don't have to learn a particular language, just being passionate about the language is enough of a reason on its own.

  • You have the right idea. Yes: even a language as obscure as Volapuk could be a stepping stone...languages are like seeds of potentiality...we never know what may spring from their womb...or what riches they may lead to.

  • Laoshu, we never hear about you traveling. I am sure you have done some travel, but I would like to hear about it. Have you made it over to China? I have not. I am a German and French teacher, but I never make it over there anymore since my wife is from South America. Now we always go there. Anyway, if you don't mind sharing some travel adventures, please do.

  • @Iceland1944 I've been to Canada twice and Taiwan two times. I've made some videos in the past when I went to these places. I'll send a link to you for some of them if you can't find them on my channel.

  • That was a great intro. Did you have someone do that in after effects or avid?

  • @NaomiChambers Yes. My buddy Fellipe made it for me a while back.I believe he used after effects for it.

  • I like what you said, I can help others but sometimes it feels like a let down.although slowly but surely my time will come, but in the meantime I can help others. I've come this far why stop haha!

  • @ThaaMCchannel Why would it feel as a let down?

  • @laoshu505000 because not as much chances to use it just... feels like I should be talking more to compare with my time spent learning it. I think a normal person would give up by now but I shall persevere till my time comes.

  • @ThaaMCchannel Man, trust me, you're doing great. Don't worry about that for now. I'm sure something will come up in the future. Just keep doing what you've been doing.

  • Hey Moses,

Sorry to bother you but, do you feel like learning foreign languages have helped you to communicate and express yourself better?

And to answer your question...I am still in the beginning phases of my language journey but, I think that a lot can be gained from learning any language; a new cultural perspective is definitely something I see as being a major benefit.

  • @Kaytube19 I definitely think so.

i guess you can call that my 'real' 3rd language. i rarely use it.

and responding to your question before: i didn't even get to characters today. i really need to just dive in. my human girlfriend says i'm just bad at it and i should get better.

  • I just realised YouTube has a new video player. Random comment but, it's nice.

  • @Ragnarokstorymaker Yea, I just realized that myself

  • @Ragnarokstorymaker same here rofl i was like wth? XD

  • As I was thinking about this more, I kind of thought that a deeper reason for doing it, would probably be the same as why people by super big houses when they wont really use all the space, or why people buy expensive fast cars when they will never drive them that fast (hopefully). Whatever the reason for those things is, I think the same reason could apply to language learning. People have a desire to gain wealth, for me, language learning is an outlet for gaining wealth. wealth in knowledge.

  • @OtacooI That was very well put. I understand where you're coming from.

  • @OtacooI Exactly! All it is, is ambition. The desire to just know more. That's what the desire to gain more knowledge is, ambition to expand one's mind. Learning a language, whether "useful" or not, is just another way to make certain people happier, just as people who want more money, a bigger house, or better cars.

  • I always want to be learning something new, to keep my mind sharp. Doesn't matter if it's language or something else. A sharp mind keeps you going even if your body might be broken someday.

  • for me It's not so much the end goal or final product so much as it is the process of actually learning it.

  • Learning a language is a good way to exercise your brain. That is the point.

  • I have learned languages that I have never spoken with anyone before but I still think it's worth it because there is music/tv/videos that i enjoy watching in those languages. Actually, the only reason i learned Hebrew (which is my most fluent language that i learned on my own) is because i loved hebrew music. I wasn't planning to ever use it at first! :) Now I would never learn a language w/o planning to speak it, but i learned hebrew before i started purposely learning languages on my own

  • @pinkpumpkinn I started learning Norwegian for the exact same reason!

  • @pinkpumpkinn There's always a good reason to learn any language.

Are you still doing Arabic by the way?

  • @laoshu505000 Yeah I agree. And yes of course i'm still doing Arabic! I haven't been spending that much time on it since the six week challenge ended, but then again i have spent much time on any language since then. I will though after i get back from studying hebrew in israel, and i'm gonna start Russian at school this semester. :)

  • @pinkpumpkinn Wow, I wish you the best in Israel. Russian will be fun for sure!

  • @laoshu505000 Thanks! Yeah I kinda wanted to start Russian before i went to israel cause there's so many people there that speak it. But there's also a lot of people there that speak arabic so i guess it all works out haha. ;)

  • @pinkpumpkinn I remember when I first started learning Hebrew at school, I found out that our teacher was Russian in the middle of the quarter! I was going crazy hahahah. She spoke both Hebrew and Russian as native tongues. I miss her so much, she was a great teacher.

  • @laoshu505000 Yeah tonsss of people speak it there because so many of them came from Russia or the soviet union so they speak Russian as a first or second language. Some of them barely even speak hebrew cause there's so many Russians that they can just speak that instead haha.

  • First view :)

  • @VanXIInX Welcome sir.
