  • Thats not flint and steel, flint and steel is when you use a steel striker and a peice of flint

  • @teenprepper96 then your like people on survivor that take literally hours to get a fire. The steel part you "hold" serves a very important purpose...

  • @gevst21 It doesnt take hours unless you know nothing about it, it takes me about 30 secs to a minute

  • I use flint and steel by right-clicking on the ground with one.

It works best on netherrack, though, the fire it creates lasts forever. Wood used to stay lit forever, but Notch removed that in 1.2, I think.

  • the metal you called steel is really magnesium

  • you sound way too young to own a knife like that

  • i have those exact shoes 13 from target

  • we got the same shoes!

  • Natofyeslew is completely correct

  • Captainkirk5100is totally right!!! Go to his website now its great!!!

  • go to flintandsteel.20megsfree. com/

  • Great job and don't listen to japopalo... If that's all there is then use it.

  • @Japopalo1217 shut up. go get deported. no one cares, hes burning like 5 leaves, its not the end of the world. and its not going to make a damn difference on your health. have a nice day :)

  • @Japopalo1217 are you stupid, because i think you are, leaves are not dangerous what so ever to burn, dry, dead leaves are actually a good fire starter in survival situation and could save a life. Also, the only leaves that i know of that, if burned can kill some, are the leaves of a poison oak or poison ivy plant and that from breathing in the smoke, and i can tell you, you would definitely feel the burning on your hands before you burn them.

  • @Japopalo1217 i hope your trolling

  • That's cool! Thx for sharing!

  • dont use the edge of the blade it will just dull ur knife

  • hey, i got that knife you have for free with my buck 119 special, i actually recently got it, i opened up the box and out popped a little knife! lol. P.S i also got that Magnesium Flint too

  • u suk its MAGNESIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FLINT IS A ROCK AN STEEL IS THE THING UR CRAPPY KNIFE IS MADE OUT OF.

  • nice strike

  • its magniseum

  • which is better, these firestarters,or the swedish ones, used without any magnesium to help start the fire?

  • that's flint and steel???

    No it's not!!!

"FLINT" IS A PIECE OF ROCK,

AND "STEEL" IS "STEEL", NOT MAGNESIUM.

  • Thank you for the video! :-)

  • where do u get flint and magnesium in australia and how old do u have to be

  • @123bigfredo try ebay. You can get them pretty cheaply there. Getting blocks like this guy has are impossible but you can get some alternate designs and self contained ones too which is handy I guess.

  • this is why you dont get children to do these things... -_-

  • Use the Awl on your multitool to strike

It really doesn't hurt it and it doesn't have to be super sharp to do its job anyways

  • ITS MAGNESIUM NOT FUCKING STEEL if it was steel your knife blade would have been burned all to hell!

  • use the back of your knife or you will wreck the blade O.O

  • u hit puberty fast

  • its magnesium not steel steel isn't flammable

  • That's not flint.

  • you dont need to blow on it when its already in fire stage you need to feed the fire you blow on it when its red hot ash to give it oxgen

  • @TheMaxxyman74 Yea but he is just spreding it

  • for me when striking with a knife if it is a fixed blade i use the back so it doensnt mess it up the blade at all

  • thanks yo

  • i have the same one

  • Try to start a fire without the cotton....

  • This is one of the many DANGEROUS steps of making a fire.

Please read the U.S. survival gude carefully to avoid any personal damage.

    This is not offensive.

  • nice shoes o.o

  • how do u make it in one strike i nedd like 50 lol

  • i like usein flint and magniesium when i go campin i have the same flint stick

  • Yeah i have the EXACT same one too.

  • i use a chisel

  • its not flint and steel its magnesium and flint but nice job

  • where do you get your shoes lol ive always wanted some of those or do they sell them anymore thats what some of my friends say

  • u can get them at probly hot topic or pac sun, or vans outlet

  • @iceman11038 Home Depot. They sell tool accessories.

  • I see everyone else has told you of your mistake with the magnesium not being steel. I just wanted to mention that it is easier to scrape off the magnesium if you put the knife blade at a sharper angle, say 90°.

  • hows the magniesum fire starter

  • Excellent video, keep them coming!

  • i hv got one of those and i also bought a fire steel rod the military long version for a 5er or somert and its garentied 3000 striks or more. so people tht want to buy one to just mess around out the back of a house or somert get a fire steel rod coz they last a lot longer and they make sparks at around 5500 f

  • its not steel its magniseuam

  • where did u get urs

  • wal mart. i have the smae one

  • thanks

  • Nice shoes!

  • i think the silver thing is magnesium

  • i know that now but at the time i didnt thank u tho

  • Nice work and good video.

I think that technically "flint and steel" refers to using your carbon steel knife to spark the ferrocerium rod (flint) that is attached to the block of magnesium. The shavings themselves are not steel.

I had to look this up myself some time ago and the definition still floats a bit but this might help you refine your knowledge even more!

What I do is shave off a ton of the magnesium into a waterproof match vial and I take that out so I don't have to do it on site.

  • I dont get it myself

but the part i dont get is

are Magnesium bars and flint rods both different ways of making fire?

  • In a ferrocerium aka "flint" rod there is a small percentage of magnesium. Bars of magnesium are pretty much solid and they are used for shavings. They are desired because they burn very hot and can be used to ignite damp tinder, something that a brief shower of sparks from a ferro rod may not be able to do.

Your first carry priority should probably be a Bic lighter along with a ferro rod and striker. If you want to have extra materials you can also bring a magnesium bar.

  • For example if you had some nice dry tinder and a bar of magnesium, it wouldn't do you much good because you would still need a way of generating 3,000 degree sparks that could ignite the magnesium.

Now the "Doan Tool" classic bar of magnesium has a built in ferro rod, so if you had that, you could use it to scrape some shavings, then strike the rod to spark them. Remember that in cold weather or emergencies it will be very difficult to scrape the magnesium, and shavings might blow away.

  • awesome

thank you so much for the help

well i carry waterproof matches and i was thinking of buying another reliable source of fire so im looking into ferro rods and MG bars

so in the logn term, its better to buy a Doa Tool or ferro rod right?

  • You should learn many fire making techniques so you always have options. I would carry a Bic and a ferro rod with striker as my main kit, supplemented with magnesium and some strips of bike tire inner tubes.

I would also carry some form of try tinder. If you add in some parachute cord and a knife you can use a bow drill method.

  • Great demonstration!

    5 Stars

  • Nice Vid. I have started fires with these very fun.
