  • Anyone know if the bit with Andy Hamilton complaining about the guy who did his bins (same ep. as this) is up here on Youtube?

  • ZE SS a :3

  • Fucking Alan. Oh god I'm drunk and can't stop laughing

  • Zee SS... a. lol

  • i'm the anti joke chicken... if mr benz built the first car, he was probably the only person on the road and therefore did not stop the first person and ask them vhere iz your lizenze because they didn't exist. good day

  • @rollerfairy182 That's not really an anti-joke so much as it is pointing out why the joke doesn't work.

  • @rollerfairy182 there wouldnt of been roads, there would of been dirt tracks first

  • @ghostwalking123 Actually there were roads. They were around long before cars.

  • @rollerfairy182 Horse and Carridge anyone? :)

  • I love how the British always do German accents as if they are interrogating someone.

  • @animagus1 Its a childhood spent watching" Colditz" on TV......., goes along with "Rommel" has to sound like James Mason ....:)

  • I love Alan!

  • 0003 lol

  • Dampfkesselüberwachungsverein :-D

  • I was of the understanding that Daimler and Benz licensed and financed the invention of two polish brothers. The german entrpreneurs were bankers later joined by Mercedes who was also a banker. There was an episode of James Burkes conections that mentioned it and it was also presented in a similar way in a history class i vaguely remember.

  • He can do an epic german accent

  • Don't you just love QI when they start speaking in german accents, especially Stephens camp german accent...gonna go watch the 'mein handy' clip again.

*I must find out why germans have such brilliant accents aswell*

  • Hahah looking at the license picture at the back... Anyone remember that story about a Polish immigrant to the UK whose name was written down as being "Prawo Jazdy" which actually meant "Drivers License"? xD

  • Ze SS..aaaaa... xD

  • does anyone else think that the person in that blurry picture on the screen looks like alan?

  • @yukicross199

    It is Alan.

  • @can0mark no is not its from a part they talked about earlier involving a polish driver in ireland thats the guys driving lisence hence why they blur it out.

  • @gamblor67

They just took a picture of a Polish driver's license added Alan's picture and blurred it. They often do that with the background pictures in QI.

Also, the entire interesting part about the Polish driver, was that he didnt exist. They thought there was one notorious driver because they thought the Polish word for driver's license was his name. So they cant show the drivers license of the Polish driver. Because it wasnt one Polish driver.

  • Golieb Daimler.... was the inventer of the 1st combustion engined car.

    Not Benz..

  • apparently, at one point, there were only two cars in the state of Oregon.

    they crashed into each other.

  • Good day to you! Where is your license?!

  • which episode is this from?

  • is that Alans face blurred out on the driving license?

  • @Lunaticc18 Yeah, I think they actually pointed it out in the episode.

  • Were ist your licence??

  • I love these moments when they all build off each other to create a moment of comic magic. :D

  • I wonder what criteria they used to define 'first car'?

  • @HeatherSpoonheim whether it was a car or not, and whether it was first lol

  • @Ostrogothicus In one or two sentences, try to define the difference between car and tractor. I ask this, because there were steam-driven agricultural tractors around before there were rail guided locomotives, which would set the date far further back then what they are talking about.

  • @HeatherSpoonheim A car is used to move a person or people from A to B, a tractor is an agricultural tool.

How's that for one sentence? ;)

  • @Ostrogothicus It's two sentences joined improperly by a comma splice. Plenty of farmer's used to ride their tractor to town and plenty of others used their 'automobiles' for pulling around farm equipment.

  • @HeatherSpoonheim No the comma merely replaces the word 'whereas', so it's a single sentence. Though if it makes you feel better you could always just substitute it in your head. However, 'farmer's'... really? Why does that have an apostrophe? It's just a plural of farmer.

Also the fact that some farmers may use tractors for something other than their intended purpose doesn't stop it from being a tool, rather than a form of transport.

  • @Jo09He yeah but if the did a normal voice it wouldn't be funny :P

  • Phil with a German accent sounds like Heimlich the caterpillar :>

  • Which series is this?

  • "i will issue you with a license; five marks" he's hilarious

  • alen sort of started off german, went italian then ended up chinese

  • vhere ist YOUR licence?

    oh god, Alan's so brilliant!

  • @Munchies1208 Alan didn't say that!

  • i love Alan... he makes so many funny voices.

  • Who wishes Alan Davis was there Brother or Boyfriend/Husband

  • @TwilightandBieberfan It doesnt matter how much you wish; you wont get anything in life. Your a twilight and bieber fan... I feel sorry for your poor taste ):

  • 0003!

  • sero sero sero one

  • might have been steam powered but it still was a motor car, just not a petrol powered one. Are electric cars now not considered cars because they are not running on petrol?.............Actually on second thoughts.......

  • i hate to put a bung in the oven of lies but the origins of the motor car are in fact.......FRENCH!

Nicolas Joseph Cugnmon invented it in 1769 (cited form cracked.com)

  • @jakamneziak It is true that Cugnot invented a self-propelled road vehicle but this was powered by steam. Karl Benz however invented the first petrol automobile powered by an internal combustion engine which is the fore-runner to the motor cars we drive today.

  • @AttaqueAuFer ..wasn't it Gottleib Daimler who invented the first petrol car?.. I thought he then joined with Benz to form Daimler-Benz.. Thats what I learnt at school... but that was a long time ago!

  • @jakamneziak cracked win

  • The way Alan Davies, Phill Jupitus and Andy Hamilton play off and continue each other's jokes is comic genius in action.

  • haha, so funny xD

  • lol alan sounds like borat!

  • Anyone else notice that the picture on the driving licence in the background looks like Alan?

  • @DarthJedi2005remixes it is alan.

  • @stitcha123 Well, I don't think it is. If I remember rightly, immediately before this in the episode they were talking about the Irish police who were chasing the Polish man "Prawo Jazdy" (Polish for "Driving Licence") - as demonstrated in the third "reccomended" clip down on the right, and they said it was this man's licence.

  • @DarthJedi2005remixes only in name.

  • ...Hugh Dennis?

  • Oh, dear lord, they love making fun of Germans...

  • As far as I know, the first self propelled car was invented by Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot

  • @ba3cool

That was the first self-propelled vehicle, but it used a steam engine, not an internal combustion engine. Good spot though.

  • @TheKokuya

The first self propelled vehicle was invented by the Chinese, more than a thousand years ago. A later model was self guided, kept going in any one direction, it would automatically turn if you oriented it the wrong way. Supposedly used one of the first examples of a compass.

  • @ba3cool

    ah cool; thanks :D

  • Vhere is your licence...?

    I vill issue you wiz a licence......iss 5 marks......

    Ahhh awsome.

  • lol very funny :D

  • licence number vun!

  • Huh, is that pixelated picture in the background supposed to be Alan??

  • the americans aren't going to like this, after all they are so stuck up their own arses that they invented it

  • @GGSDavejones very true

  • @GGSDavejones Nonsense, we love to laugh at ourselves! :D And this is totally hilarious ^^

  • i'm american and we were taught that ford invented the automobile. but im willing to trust the word of the brilliant stephen fry than my primitively lacking american education.

  • well the Germans invented the motorcar but ford made the model T (the car which you need 3 hands to work it) but then ford cars grew and due to have a bigger mass producing rate (as the German's where still recovering from having their city destroyed in the war. Germans invented it and ford developed it

  • ah i see. i knew americans werent smart enough to have completely invented the concept of cars. the japanese maybe, but certainly not us.

  • @GGSDavejones well you have to be careful there. during the first world war, there was no fighting on german territory. is was all done in france, belgium and russia. that's why the foolish germans believed the legend, that they actually won, but lost only through treason (dolchstoß legende). I think it was mostly the demontation of almost every major industry, what done the trick to through the germans back for a couple of years...

  • @JulesWiiind Aye well if they didn't even fight on the father land german still suffered MASSIVELY, when they surrendered we (the allies) took everything, France took all the money to help rebuild, the brits wanted their very big and impressive navy (which the germans scuttled) and the americans wanted to know how things like the V2 worked (to which the answer they got was 'look at robbert godard' who was a british inventor which power and invented the liquid fueled rocket)

  • @GGSDavejones the V2 was in WWII. The economical suffering was after WWI. But the rest is true... As I said, the took almost all major heavy industrie. Though we never paid all of the money for reparation to france. hehe. And they tooke the rhineland for some years. And the germannavy was not that impressive, since britian stayed ruler of the atlantic. Germany never had enough money to build a navy to seriosly endanger britian supremacy at sea. That at least is what they tought us at univerisity

  • @JulesWiiind yeah sorry about my mess up with the V2, hard to think at 1 in the morning :P

And the german navy wasn't as big as ours but you had a few stronger and more powerful ships but as they were made stronger and more powerful it took a while to make them, plus if you can get free ships into your navy then more the better. I'm sad i don't know enough about WW1, apart from the yanks turning up late

  • @JulesWiiind V1 AND V2 were in WWII. We called them 'doodlebugs'. There's just been a history program called Blitz Street in which they blew up a model terrace with bombs of the exact power the WWII bombs had, and the V1 and V2 explosions were SPECTACULAR. There was economic suffering after WWII too The Germans did have an impressive navy though. For what they had in guns and size, we had in numbers. Hence why it took a floatilla of destroyers and a few aircraft 2 hours to sink the Bismarck.

  • Henry Ford invented mass production of motor cars, not the motor car itself

  • @tehcrackfox1 He didn't say Ford invented the assembly line

  • @weldonwin

Actually the Oldsmobile Curved Dash was the first mass-produced car. However Henry Ford massively 'improved' that proces.

  • @weldonwin yeah we know...

  • @weldonwin only americans make that mistake

  • @weldonwin Wrong, Henry Ford only helped develop assembly line production and even then it was mostly only through sponsoring employees.

  • this is brilliant

  • Where is your license! lmfao!!!

  • : P

  • The SS..a. Brilliant :D
